Stay metal with your reactions but keep an ear out for the vocals of Americana musician, Sierra Ferrell. Many metalheads are even loving her vocals because I often read metalheads in her comment sections, even though Sierra Ferrell isn't metal but more of a bluegrass, roots, country vocalist. She can do rock as well because she did a Beatles cover and did the Janis Joplin hit, Me and Bobby McGee in her live set lists recently. I love her Jazz cover of Lullaby of Birdland as well. Many people that are fans of metal say that they think Sierra Ferrell has the ability to be a metal vocalist if she ever desired.
Unconventional suggestion, but would to see your analysis of Sigur Ros’ songs where they mostly use vocal (gibberish) as an additional instrumental.. for starters- Olsen Olsen (live) and Svefn g Englar
Amazing band. Amazing singer. As an older metal fan I have so much appreciation for the new ground the current generation of bands are breaking and how they are expanding the genre. Also they seem to be really nice people. Well deserving all of the success they are enjoying, and a lot more of it as well.
Please check out Seven Spires. Adrienne Cowan's voice is absolutely amazing. For my money, the best young symphonic metal band out there. Love Ad Infinitum too but if I had to pick, it would be Seven Spires.
Saw the tour in Boston and they were amazing! Was my introduction to live Ad Infinitum, and I can't wait to see them again. Such a great lineup as well with Seven Spires and Kamelot.
I actually drove several hours to catch that tour just to see Ad Infinitum. (I love Kamelot and Hammerfall too but they were the main reason I traveled for the show)
I LOVE Ad Infinitum, and basically anything and everything Melissa Bonny does. I am so excited to see what the research shows! I got to hear Melissa with Kamelot, and I have to say she is my favorite singer to sing with them. She and Tommy K. are SO amazing live, I'm blown away. Many shows I won't go to live, because the singers are not int tune live, and I just can't listen to it, even if they have a gorgeous tone and good breath support and put on an amazing show, my brains just goes NONONO RUN AWAY! But Melissa (and Tommy) sound as good or BETTER live, and apart from classical singers (and even they get pitch corrected or autotuned sometimes) singers in musicals and opera, I have never heard singers so in tune and just amazing before. Also, for some reason Melissa Bonny is the only singer whose harsh vocals I can listen to any time, even when I need a break from most "harsher" metal and heavy sounds.
I love how Ad Infinitum combines heavy and light parts perfectly in their music. When I first heard their second album I thought they went softer/slower then I re-listened to their first album and it also has this combo, and I just love these ups and downs.
I can recommend it! They are really good live, I saw the co-headline tour with Blackbriar. I mean what a line up right? I had to do it because Blackbriar is my all time favourite band and Ad Infinitum is one of my favourites. And soon I am going to see them both again opening for Kamelot!
So happy you did this song. I've been listening to it since the day it came out and it's still one of my favourite songs rn. I know exactly what you mean about that tingle feeling on the back half of the song, I'm sure I've listened to it over 100 times and I still get that feeling
This is feels like a small thing on the face of it but I genuinely appreciate that you didn't really hang on the topic of the screwdriver in the background. I mean in terms of trying to apologize for it or even trying to cut the video and wait for the sound to end. It speaks to a degree of authenticity and honesty that I must commend and thank you for. It is also very exciting and heartwarming to see that the kickstarter has been fully funded! One more thing, thank you for this recommend! I've got all their music downloaded so I can really get to know them.
Seven Spires needs to be on the show. Elizabeth would love the variety of superb sounds, harsh and clean, that Adrienne Cowan can make and besides, they are the complete package, guitar, bass and drums are all phenomenal like you would expect from a band that met at Berklee. Cabaret of Dreams, early, jazzy ua-cam.com/video/qshRajbTjek/v-deo.htmlsi=_bLsGXf-7PmismxV Architect of Creation, heavy ua-cam.com/video/YKxump1Lco8/v-deo.htmlsi=uslETO3gtiK-iuQk Almosttown from the new album ua-cam.com/video/XdhDdVUwLZc/v-deo.htmlsi=_az3CvomhJjf0olA Succumb, a sweet ballad ua-cam.com/video/l10HOohy1Eo/v-deo.htmlsi=pKbxs7ahlCnHfvO5
Melissa has a beautiful voice and this song was enjoyable. I am not a fan of harsh vocals but they were used very well in this song. I try to join the premiere for each new video on this channel. Premieres are each Monday, Tuesday and Friday beginning at 11 AM EST (10 AM EDT).
I was at the Tucson concert Elizabeth talks about here, and got to meet the group. They are all just as great as you'd expect from watching the channel! And she's right about Ad Infinitum - they put on an awesome performance! Melissa was a big star of Kamelot's show too. They need to be headliners next time. Definitely one of the best groups I know of, and I'll be there next time they come stateside (come to AZ again!).
Oh, excited for this. Currently my favourite song. Followed Melissa for a while, really liked her voice, but never clicked with the actual songs. This one is the first that really hits the spot for me.
With all the great female metal vocalists you've covered so far, I'm surprised that you haven't done a reaction/analysis to Infected Rain. I put Lena Scissorhands on the same metal vocal talent level as AWG, Courtney, Melissa, and Tati. Her screams are some of the best in the business, and her cleans are absolutely beautiful.
I’ve loved AD Infinitum since day 1 !!! I’ve been following Melissa since her days in Rage of Light!! Saw them live in Boston this year with Kamelot and Seven Spires tour!! One of my favorite bands!! And singer Melissa Bonny🤘🏼
Hmmmm. Thank you. I have never heard of this band. Watching you enjoy the gems of my life's ST has introduced me to a few new jewels. Including this one.
You ALWAYS make me smile ! Thank you. Your positivity and Optimistic outlook on many aspects of Life is UPLIFTING. You seem to find Happy elements in anything you analyze. I look forward to your videos . Thank you, you Beautiful soul.
I find it really interesting how she was able to use the runs towards the end to emphasize control, despite the instability of fighting her internal struggles. Imma have to get ahold of that album.
I feel so privileged to follow your work in bringing Voice Theory out of the arts and into science. Hopefully it will soon take a place alongside Germ Theory and Cell Theory as a predictive model.
Awesome song and loved your analysis and the information you provide as always. Absolutely love the 'demon-possessed cookie monster' image, and that really does kind of work for that type of harsh vocals, which I am appreciating the more and more as I watch your videos and analysis.
I love Ad Infinitum (and Melissa’s work with Kamelot too). They’re such a talented band and I really enjoy and appreciate how you break down the little nuances that make their music unique and catchy. Great analysis as always, Elizabeth!
I love the layered belt here in the chorus, 21:54 it adds so much. Now when I rewatch the earlier chorus parts without the layered belt vocalsI I find myself singing them.
Love Bonnies voice, angelic. Also Feuerschwanz cover of Man-O-Wars Warriors of the world united with all those amazing guest singers Bonnie being one of them is so EPIC! 🔥 🔥 🔥
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve been looking for new music with more “grit.” And the fact that you compared her to Amy Lee… wow! I also appreciate that you mentioned the care that the production takes to not lose the vocalist in the other strong sounds. That’s one of the big draws for me across all genres.
Elizabeth, I don't Necessarily Listen to your whole "Analysis"! Because "YOUR a Portal" to the Music, I've Never HEARD 😁 🤩You ARE Brilliant🥰 God Bless You!
I would love to see a breakdown of a Moonspell song, especially "Hers Is the Twilight". The lead singer's harsh vocals with his smooth as butter clean vocals are so hypnotic
Highly recommend reacting to Amorphis. They make great finnish melodeath. One of my favorite songs is Amongst Stars feat. Anneke. Great mix of beautiful cleans and delicious growls!
2 suggestions 1) Haggard - Eppur Si Muove Unfortunately not very well known, Haggard is a band that combines metal and classical music styles together. The band consists of a full metal band and a group of "classical" musicians incl cellos, violins, oboe, transverse flute and also combines harsh vocals from a male singer with female soprano singing. Eppur Si Muove is the title track of an album inspired by the life of Galileo Galilei 2) My Dying Bride - Catherine Blake MDB is a death-doom band with very Romantic (in the 19th c sense) poetic lyrics. This song in particular comes across as a gothic tale of nightmares about loss, and regret. Weaving between calmer, melodic parts with clean singing and uptempo sections with destortion in both music and voice. As the name implies doom is quite a dark, but also emotional genre of metal. My Dying Bride brings all that pain and sorrow to the forefront, in great part through the impressive performances by vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe. His vocal range is really impressive from intense sorrowful clean, almost breaking, over dark and narrative, to harsh cold screams filled with malice and deep growls. In live performances he also embodies (or used to at least) these emotions, even to the point of being brought to his knees.
Totally agree with both. Also add Aaron's new band 'High Parasite'. Their first album is released today, I'll see them live next week. Their song 'Let it fail' is basically a combination of My Dying Bride and old Paradise Lost. I love 'Grave Intentions' more though, the feeling his voice gives me in there reminds me more of what My Dying Bride also gives.
Finally had time to watch the full video❤ been listening to them for a while, when i went to see arch enemy for the second time, they were the openers , so good live. Instantly bought the drum cover melissa customized and they all signed it. Got to talk a little after the show at merch booth they are indeed such kind and talented people ❤❤
really glad you are a fan of Ad Infinitum! great band. and your analysis relating this piece to EDM, makes me wonder how you haven't analyzed the new singer for Delain. She came from trance singing before joining the band if you read about her past vocal career. with your love of the both meshing as you say, i'd highly recommend checking em out if you haven't, and I'd be a personal fan of hearing what you think.
Some Happy-Song recommandations: Handle With Care - The Traveling Willburrys (i think the best version is the live version with Jeff Lynne as the pert of george harrison) Hope of Deliverance - Paul McCartney She‘s a Rainbow - Rolling Stones Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic - The Police Twisting by the Pool - Dire Straits I am from austria and I love your videos.
I think there is a massive crossover between electronic, metal and classical music. I know many metal lovers that love operatic voices, it works so well mixed with rock music. I also love illenium and that type of electronic music too. In fact I came to love rock through electronic artists like Gary Numan.
Suggestion: Recently started following your channel backwards in time, wondering if you would consider looking at the band Ignea ? Maybe the song disenchanted however Alga might suit you more interms of message and tone. ?
If all goes well I'm gonna see them opening for Kamelo in a few weeks, also on the bill Blackbriar and Frozen Crown. Some suggestions for screaming women (there are more): Sabinna Classen(Germany) (Holy moses) I think she's retired now (recently!) but she's been doing it sinds like at least the mid eighties(the first one, period.), Corinne v/d Brandt(the Netherlands) (Acrostichon and more), she's been doing it sinds the late eighties/ early nineties. Fernanda Lira (Brazil)(Crypta), doing it sinds about 2010.
I love Melissa's voice, been listening to her ever since I discovered her in the band 'Evenmore' about 8 years ago. Elizabeth, you really should check out "The Ride Begins" by Evenmore - you will love the video as well as Melissa's vocals.
Elisabeth, i love so much your enthusiasm ❤ Suggestion : I think you never reacted (yet) to Ankor and their vocalist Jessie Williams, did you? Title 'Venom', by example ...
Firstly, love Melissa and Ad Infinitum (and generally been following this whole genre for years now). But also secondly, big shout outs for Seven Lions and Illenium! Illenium is one of my favourites, the soundscapes he makes are beautiful. Hes also done collabs with both Motionless In White and Spiritbox, plus a couple other metal bands! I recall you saying in a previous video about Porter Robinsons Worlds too, I feel like we run in the exact same EDM circles (although perhaps you don't get into hardstyle)!
So I'm a huge rock/grunge fan. I noticed that you have been studying grunge a bit, and I haven't seen you do a video on Mark Lanagan, lead singer of Screaming Trees. He's a pioneer of the grunge movement that doesn't get enough credit. He was really close with Layne Staley and Kurt Cobain. Screaming Trees most popular song is "I Nearly Lost You". Also, Mark and Layne did a song together when Layne was doing his side band Mad Season called "Long Gone Day", and they go verse for verse, and there is an amazing live version of the song. They both have such powerful voices. Marks voice is so deep too. It's be cool to see you do a video on one of those songs. As long as Mark Lanagan gets some love. He had a horrible heroin addiction back when Layne and Kurt did, but he got clean and ended up passing away during COVID. Check out his voice. It's so different than the other grunge singers.
Mellissa is so good amazing composer and singer I think Ad Infinitum is one of those bands that cold go mainstream worldwide she jus has a sound that is so appealing. More likely to even mainstream then even Nightwish has like you said she is so much like Amy Lee I don't see why more promotion in the west is not happening.
this is the Ad Infinitum that I want blasting out of my speakers! I also wish for your research you could do Noah Sebastian from Bad Omens he is an absolute monster when it comes to cleans and screams/Growls the album FGBGFM is incredible but live he was one of if not my all time favorite front man of any metal band!
Before this, the only track I knew with the title "Outer Space" was from a Korean indie band called Post Panic. They released their video 10 years ago. Wonder if they got a check for use of their song title. 🤔
Probably wont be seen but i recommend "White Baloons" by "Sick Puppies" specifically the version off their "Polar Opposites" album (its the live acoustic versions)
Honestly, you should check out Beirut - 'So Allowed'. Zach Condon's voice is so dreamy and the musical arrangement is superb. He has a somewhat operatic voice that is worth consideration. YOU WILL NOT REGRET CHECKING THEM OUT!!!!
I would love to hear your analysis of Hannabie's song Aosaki Ni Shitsurei Shimasu. They are an all female band and the lead singer has some great growl as well as clear high vocals.
Can you do: Elle King - Can't be loved (Live at ETown) Jacob Banks - Mercy (colors show, or just about any of his lol) Leon Bridges - River Micheal Kiwanuka - Love and Hate, Cold little heart
One of my absolute favorite underrated female screamer/ growlers is the lead singer of ignea!! Helle Bohdanova. Check out her one take sing through of the song Dunes on napalm's channel.
great reaction. I like ad infinitums and melissas music. a lot. in this context I like to recommend "hanabie - we love sweets" from their yt channel. japanese all female. heavy. harsh vocals combined with moe vocals. so good.
Elizabeth, Jon Bon Jovi is feeling a little neglected, because "The Charasmatic Voice" still is working on the analysis of Wanted Dead Or Alive. Don't worry, we'll wait. Thanks for all you do. Keep it up!!!
If you check out the Lady Marmalade cover on Nils Courbaron channel, you'll see both Melissa and Adrienne Cowan showing off both their harsh vocals and their beautiful cleans vocals.
You know, you really need to check out AFI! Davey has incredible range and a killer punk rock scream. I think you'll dig the ghoulish post-punk vibes and great musicianship. Also, they've been together for almost 30 years. I saw them in 2004, and they're still going strong today. And somehow, they all look the same. SCIENCE!
you might want to look into Brothers of Metal. They have an Ethereal female voice, a hard vocalist and a narrator vocalist. plus they sing about Vikings
I would absolutely love to have you listen to Paramore's "Last Hope" live. I'm not sure if you've already done a Paramore song before, but if you haven't, give this one a shot. Hayley Williams is an absolute unstoppable force, and I would love to get your reaction to this song, thanks.
You should do a video on either A Sound of Thunder Udoroth (Nina Osegueda is the lead singer , I’m sure she’s classically trained ) or After Forevers “ Energize Me” ( floor Jansen of Nightwish first band )
Has Elizabeth analysed Josh Ramsay of Marianas Trench? Very interesting vocally and had a hand in writing the pop song "Call me maybe", super talented. Their album masterpiece theatre is quite unique in that the lyrics are reused throughout to create a narrative thread. However, I'd really like to have a vocal analysis of "No place like home" from the Ever after album, although I don't believe there is a good live performance.

You haven't done Rod Stewart yet!!!
Unconventional suggestion, but would to see your analysis of Sigur Ros’ songs where they mostly use vocal (gibberish) as an additional instrumental.. for starters- Olsen Olsen (live) and Svefn g Englar
I've been following Melissa Bonny for years. She deserves every bit of stardom that comes her way.
Have you listened to Adrienne Cowan and Melissa Bonny cover Lady Marmalade? It is one of my favorite things ever
@@penguine342 Didn't know about this one. Just checked it out - it is pretty awesome!!
Elizabeth is aware of Adrienne and has heard at least some of her how-to videos. Hopefully, there will be an analysis soon.
I second this! Architect of Creation would be a great first song!
A 1000 times yes to this recommendation!
My husband and I were blown away by this band when we saw them tour with Kamelot. So much talent ❤
Saw the tour in Boston and they were amazing! Was my introduction to live Ad Infinitum, and I can't wait to see them again.

Also, for some reason Melissa Bonny is the only singer whose harsh vocals I can listen to any time, even when I need a break from most "harsher" metal and heavy sounds.
I really hope we get some Beyond the Black analysis some day.
Yes! Lot of great tracks to analyze
Her voice made me teary-eyed, such talent!
I love how Ad Infinitum combines heavy and light parts perfectly in their music. When I first heard their second album I thought they went softer/slower then I re-listened to their first album and it also has this combo, and I just love these ups and downs.

Especially the live studio recording of architect of creation, a la one take
I already seen Ad Infinitum live and already have my ticket for their next show.

Oh, excited for this. Currently my favourite song.
Followed Melissa for a while, really liked her voice, but never clicked with the actual songs. This one is the first that really hits the spot for me.
Suggestion: Red Handed Denial - “Father Said” (Lauren Babic live one take performance) amazing performance by an even more amazing artist.
OOOOH yes :)
Amazing Band. Amazing voice. Im happy that they are coming to Finland at January 2025. I already have the tickets.... can't wait

I'm definitely going to have to listen to more of Ad Infinitum. Really enjoying their sound
I've been listening to this song since its release. Definitely one of the best songs to come out of ad infinitum
I'm so glad someone else enjoys Ad Infinitum. So glad she volunteered too!
I feel so privileged to follow your work in bringing Voice Theory out of the arts and into science. Hopefully it will soon take a place alongside Germ Theory and Cell Theory as a predictive model.
And don't forget the amazing "Marching on Versailles" by Ad Infinitum
I was coming to your channel to comment and suggest you do this song…and the newest video was this! I’m so happy
Awesome song and loved your analysis and the information you provide as always. Absolutely love the 'demon-possessed cookie monster' image, and that really does kind of work for that type of harsh vocals, which I am appreciating the more and more as I watch your videos and analysis.
I'm excited to see what your research finds!
I've heard of this band but haven't heard this song until now. That's beautiful. Going on a playlist.
Her vocals are very dreamy. ❤
The children of Kamelot grew up so fast! kudos to Ad Infinitum, Seven Spires and the rest!
I just love all that orbits Kamelot, Evergrey, Firewind, Ad Infinitum, Seven Spires, Epica etc.
I love Ad Infinitum (and Melissa’s work with Kamelot too). They’re such a talented band and I really enjoy and appreciate how you break down the little nuances that make their music unique and catchy. Great analysis as always, Elizabeth!

So just to be clear... you like this song?
00:06 I went to a local metal festival on an island only because of Ad Infinitum and this song, so yeah, I agree 🖤
I found this band recently, I really like it. Reminds me of Straight Line Stitch from back in 2008.
Some Happy-Song recommandations:
Handle With Care - The Traveling Willburrys (i think the best version is the live version with Jeff Lynne as the pert of george harrison)
Hope of Deliverance - Paul McCartney
She‘s a Rainbow - Rolling Stones
Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic - The Police
Twisting by the Pool - Dire Straits
I am from austria and I love your videos.

Melissa Bonny 💞🖤💞
Definitely 🔥🤘🔥
Thank you as always 🙏❤🧡
Can’t wait to get my Vinyl
This needs more views
Dawn of Ouroboros - Velvet Moon is something you should take a look at!
Vocally she is the real deal and then some...
Elisabeth, i love so much your enthusiasm ❤
Suggestion : I think you never reacted (yet) to Ankor and their vocalist Jessie Williams, did you? Title 'Venom', by example ...
I would like to suggest Sugarland stay live. You will enjoy here style of signing and vocal ability!
Didn’t have to convince me. I’ve been listening to them since she left Rage Of Light.
October is going to be my Music Month! We got AI AND WIND ROSE! Two of my Favorites! I'm going to recommend Visions of Atlantis.
Before this, the only track I knew with the title "Outer Space" was from a Korean indie band called Post Panic. They released their video 10 years ago. Wonder if they got a check for use of their song title. 🤔
Also wildly underappreciated: Lena Scissorhands and Infected Rain.
Recommend checking out Because I Let You.
Probably wont be seen but i recommend "White Baloons" by "Sick Puppies" specifically the version off their "Polar Opposites" album (its the live acoustic versions)
I would like to recommend again: Ankor, similar approach with female harsh vocals and clean voice.
Elizabeth any chance for a vocal analysis of Supper's Ready by Genesis? Album: Foxtrot
Year: 1972. Greetings from Brazil.
Angelmaker - What I Would Give. Give them a try. Emotional ass song. Wish they had more recognition.
Can you do:
Elle King - Can't be loved (Live at ETown)
Jacob Banks - Mercy (colors show, or just about any of his lol)
Leon Bridges - River
Micheal Kiwanuka - Love and Hate, Cold little heart
QUEEN: MARCH OF THE BLACK QUEEN
You know, you really need to check out AFI! Davey has incredible range and a killer punk rock scream. I think you'll dig the ghoulish post-punk vibes and great musicianship. Also, they've been together for almost 30 years. I saw them in 2004, and they're still going strong today. And somehow, they all look the same. SCIENCE!
This is my head canon for Rue's future had she grown up in today's world and not during the times of the Hunger Games... :)
The warning black holes pepsi center, it's so good would love to see a breakdown.
I would LOVE a review of Our Lady Peace, Clumsy!
you might want to look into Brothers of Metal. They have an Ethereal female voice, a hard vocalist and a narrator vocalist. plus they sing about Vikings
Please need tea time with Melissa i beg you, you are fantastic Elizabeth, brillhant analysis
I would love to see the sheet music on this! See if I could play any of it on any of the instruments I played
You could carry out an analysis of "Farewell" or "The seven angels"? Both by Avantasia. The latter is one of the band's best Metal Opera.
I would absolutely love to have you listen to Paramore's "Last Hope" live. I'm not sure if you've already done a Paramore song before, but if you haven't, give this one a shot. Hayley Williams is an absolute unstoppable force, and I would love to get your reaction to this song, thanks.
Two requests!
1) Slash and Demi lovato - papa was a rolling stone
2) Matt Bellamy! Muse! Madness live in Rome
