    Thanks for the tips restoring these great old clocks, as these slate & marble monsters were seen as art of your furniture, as well as your social standing, I do believe even in the 21st century there is a place for the Clocks

      Thank you Rod. I absolutely love slate clocks they look so good when theyre sitting proudly on a unit. The great thing about them for me is how cheap they are to buy.

    Just to let you know that I have also posted a couple of videos to complement yours. Very amateur I know but I didn't know how they would turn out. Simon

    I was told to avoid getting these cases wet as they are held with plaster and if they get too wet they can fall apart. Better to wipe them to avoid excess water.

      Thats absolutely true, they are held together with plaster but it would take quite a soaking to break it down. You will see in some of my other videos that I do actually take the cases apart for a full restoration and then glue them back together.

    Hi, I’ve just bought the same clock you have and was wondering if you have gone so far as removing the dial from the mechanism? If so could you let me know how it’s done please

    • @treetopspider
      @treetopspider  5 років тому +1

      Hi neil. I assume you have taken the mechanism out of the clock (two screws at the back of the clock)
      The first thing is to remove the hands by pulling out the little pin at the centere of the hands.
      If you hold the mechanism in your hand and look straight into it you will notice 3 posts with the little retaining pins. Just use a pair of pliers to pull them out and the dial will come off in one whole piece.

      Thank for that. Yes I’d got the movement out as my case was marked like yours with a whitish hue on the case. I cleaned my case up with T cut and then yes kiwi polish on it and buffed it. Came out well. The movement is absolutely filthy as the back door is missing . Thanks for advice on taking it off as I have read somewhere that you slacken off main spring before taking movement out just in case it loosens the pte holding everything together. Only way to get to mainspring Escher is by removing the face so I’ll do that now

      Morning,
      I’ve got my clock cleaned up and back together and running but the chime mechanism has decided to pack in now. It was running ok when I 1st cleaned the movement but since putting it back into the case, the chiming movement has stopped. Any ideas as to what I’ve done wrong? The hammer etc is free with no obstructions etc

      @@neillconnor Hi Neill I recon its the ratchet mechanism thats not been set right. Or take a look at the spring/tensioner that pushes the ratchet back to its position, perhaps it hasnt located correctly. Its a shame we cant sent photos on here otherwise I couls have sent you pics of how it shouls look when put back together

      Time4Clocks I’ve disengaged the chime mechanism at the moment ast the clock stopped at 5 to midnight every day. Chime mechanism was stopping it but I couldn’t see why so I just disengaged it for now.

    quick question, what was the thread count on that egyptian cotton bedsheet

    • @treetopspider
      @treetopspider  4 роки тому

      Hi Chris, Thank you for your question and of course I should have made that important information clear. Unfortunately I bought the bedsheet from Oxfam 2 years ago and forgot to ask at the the time. As soon as this pandemic is over I will go back to the shop and see if they have any information on their files regarding that particular sale. They will of course remember the actual sale because I asked to borrow a pair of scissors to cut out the dark brown stain from the middle of the sheet. I shall keep you posted
