Great video Matt thank you for the great videos. The polyester thread is working great in my Bagpipes. Thank you for the suggestion on polyester thread for replacing normal Bagpipe hemp. I look forward to the next video may you have a great weekend & may God bless you😊😊😊🍀🍀🍀🙏🙏🙏

Thank you for this, Matt. I continue to be impressed with your deep knowledge of the various piping idioms and their timing and ornamentation. You seem to remember, and can so clearly articulate, many things that far too many pipers either don't know, or long forgot in the scramble of band competition playing. You are an old soul of piping. If you confessed you spent 20 years in the Royal Scots Guards following 5 years in the College of Piping under Seamus McNeil, I'd believe it.

Wow! I remember asking a lot of questions as a beginner and not receiving great answers, more “play it like this” rather than the underpinnings of why we play the way we do. So I’ve spent nearly three decades reverse engineering as much pipe music as I can to sort it all out. And now I get to share those discoveries with the world through this platform!

@@MattWillisBagpiper And I as well. I spent many years unlearning the pipes because I was not taught the structural fundamentals of timing and cadence in ornamentation, and their relation to the melody. "Play it like this" only takes you so far. I suspect more than a few of your readers/students are also re-learning. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.

Perfect example is Caledonian Society of London. Great runs of triplets in a strathspey there.

This is great! You're by far my favorite online source for bagpipes, though I have a question. I'm a beginner, and when I put my RG chanter in with a reed and all my drones on I feel like I'm having to blow my lungs out, and both my tenor drones shut off. Any advice? I'm using a macphee Rees and rg infinity chanter, and EZEE drone reeds with inverted bass.

Great video! As you have advised, I have downloaded a metronome app :) however, I am unsure what pre-sets I should make. E.g. 3/4 March, 6/8 March, 6/8 Jig, C strathspey, etc. (How many bpm, how fast?!) Any help is welcome!

How much time do you spend on the practice chanter vs. the full pipes? I find many folks that have difficult transitioning an exercise from the practice chanter to the pipes tend to not prioritize there piping time. Once one has a full set, I'd go with no less the 75% of practice time on the full pipes (or no more than 25% on the practice chanter).

Hey Matt, I’m going through the first Terry Tully installment. Instead of a private lesson, could I compensate you to create a video for your channel breaking one or two of those tunes down. Some of the phrasing are really baffling me.
