I wish Umbra was more sentient. Like, if you go into Operator mode for a bit he'll tend to wander, or something. Inspecting the place where he pinned you too a wall, watching the Man in the Wall when they appear, leaning against the wall, sitting in a crouch at the Window of your Personal Quarters, practicing his Nikana skills in the Operator room. Lots of cool things I'm sad we don't get
Yea but that's in-combat and he functions like a Spectre, which doesn't feel quite as self-aware as he did in the sacrifice cause spectre AI is kind of trash. I just wanted some indication he *kept* his sentience Post-Sacrifice cause right now he feels kind of empty.
Personally, I think Umbra should have his own unique twist on Excal's moves. Slash Dash could be Slash Impale, a stronger, more horizontal dash that just stabs a single enemy for more damage than Slash Dash, but less enemies can he hit per use, as well as lowering Sentient defense. Radial Howl is good. Radial Javelin could be Radial Explosion, lower range but higher damage and a knockdown effect, perhaps insta-disarming Sentients. For Exalted Umbral Blade we could just make it a Nikana instead of a more traditional single handed sword, with the beams being much faster with less width, being more like a straight up spike flying through the air. We need variation, we have three different versions of one frame.
This is a very cool and epic idea but until we get another one, Umbra is a replacement for excal prime. Also I don't think sentients can be disarmed but I don't spend much time on lua
I don't know if you've figured it out by now, but... ALL the Warframes are people. Ballas himself says so in the vitruvian entries. The Infested infests things. Basic Frames are low class, Primes are the original subjects (classes are higher), and Umbra is specifically designed to retain his memories as punishment from Ballas. Also, when Ordis warns us about internalizing memories, that's what Natah did when she "Drew the image of Margulis from the Tenno's dreams". Lotus isn't corrupted. Lotus IS the corruption. Lotus is the internalization of the Tenno's image of Margulis. Ballas mearly purged the Lotus, and now Natah is herself again. Likely, her current intent is to now finish the sequence Hunhow set out- The destruction of the Tenno. The Old War isn't over. It was just taking a nap.

We're not going to just kill them, we probably don't want to waste space on keeping then captive, and we certainly don't want to just give them back to their armies.
I don’t disagree, but lotus/corrupted lotus says we need the high ranking person just to interrogate them, but Natah is a liar as shown by Teshin and is likely trying to protect you from the fact that Warframes are corrupted people and aren’t all that powerful, but you still find out along with Ordis.

We could just chuck them out the airlock(we all have more than 10k recorded kills anyhow), or just leave them to sado-maso red veil edge boys to "handle"

Agreed with the standing on the orbiter thing. Even if DE didn't want to spend the resources and time focused on making a single NPC specifically walk around the ship, something like a meditation animation would work wonders for the lore reasons.
Umbra shouldn't just be in your storage system like the other frames. While you aren't using him he should be doing things! Looking around the orbiter, taking a closet view of the place where he choked you against the wall, trying to fend off The Man in The Wall, just practicing his Nikana moves, etc. He kinda feels hollow as of now.

Brawlatron You are right, maybe except the Umbra part. Im looking for the difference between him and other frames and maybe, Umbras are those who are "powered" by one traumatic memory which fuels their rage. Other frames dont seem like they remeber things of that sort, but Im 99% sure they were still people.
Honestly, I think all frames have that one traumatic memory in them. The operator gives them comfort over their memory and in turn allows the operator to use their bodies. I think umbras are just earlier versions of frames that are stronger but harder to control, which you can see with Excal Umb's stats and ability to move around independently. Then they modified umbras into primes, making them lose their consciousness. And over time, the quality, prime blueprints' information slowly faded and became more uncommon, so only the basic blueprint remains commonly

Yes, and No. It gives him the feeling of being unique, with him being a warframe which can do whatever it wants, without the operator controlling it. Sadly, this unique feeling dies off rather quickly after the quest, as most people want umbra to wander the orbiter, inspecting things, resting etc. The quest shows us that he isn't the only umbra made, which just gives us the mindset of a pokemon fan "GOTTA CATCH EM ALL!" If all the umbra frames had a unique mechanic to them, i wouldn't have the same opinion as you, but i highly doubt that we can go further then JOJO/Persona jokes with umbra frames (If we actually get to find em)
More umbra's would be super cool but Umbra serves the purpose of being another character AND being a replacement for Excal Prime. Excalibur is the only frame without an accessible prime so that's why I think they haven't done any more umbras. Maybe they said more umbras are coming though idk
Honestly I don't want Lotus to come back. She consciously tried to kill us at the end of The Sacrifice, and she would have if Umbra hadn't jumped in and saved us. She very clearly isn't being manipulated, both Ballas and herself say as much at the end. In my eyes, she's irredeemable at this point. Teshin or Umbra himself should be our new guide. Or Ordis, but they never give him new voice lines outside of story quests, so I doubt it.
Gstyles 456 She had Battalysts out behind her while she spoke to us, and after she said "This...is what I am." the Battalysts all fired on us at once, but Umbra jumped in just in time to save the operator.
Pinecone Gaming Sentients don't think for themselves. These ones were presumably shards of Natah, just as all of the ones we've fought until now were shards of Hunhow. So in essence, we were really fighting her for the entire Sacrifice questline. Ordis or someone else even notes that the Sentient Mimics hadn't been seen since the Old War. Know what else hasn't been seen since the Old War? Natah, in Sentient form.
China frame is indeed still running, I play it sometimes to get info about the small changes and exclusives compared to the global version, I have no idea what they are going to do in regards to the sacrifice yet since the updates there are way behind, I think they are going to implement it normally since the Chinese founder one is named umbra prime, so they might have umbra from the quest and keep umbra prime for founders, umbra prime is visually identical to umbra. I need to double check but I think umbra prime has different stats although I don’t know for sure
Tbh. I'd love if the warframe just went about their business on the ship when you were operator. Like they could go sit in places, clean weapons, do natras or just walk around. It would make it alot less awkward than seeing your frame just stood there
Umbras are earlier versions of the Warframes, that were made before the Tenno. The Orokin tried to keep them under control by all means necessary, including tortured memories. The current Warframes were made so that the Tenno could control them via Transference, but Umbra has a Transference bolt too for some unknown reason. So Excalibur Umbra may actually be the first ever made Warframe, made even before Excalibur Prime (first known Warframe before the Sacrifice). Also, all the Warframes were humans before. They were mutated by the Helminth strain of the Technocyte infestation. Later, they were changed by the Orokin so the Tenno could control them.
Umbras are simply primes that were made with intact memories, probably as punishment. That's why they retain some level of sentience and autonomy. Ballas couldn't plan to use umbra as a warframe because he can't use transference, and even if he could he wouldn't because he abhors transference and the tenno.

Plus, I am also a little weirded out by the idea of "all warframes used to be people" if we can craft warframes in the foundry (and some of them we even craft the parts - than again we do craft Umbra in the quest...), and the fact that Silvana (in the Silver Grove quest) mentions that she "created" Titania - that terminology for mutating someone into a living weapon makes sense for someone like Ballas, but Silvana mentioned how she despised the warframe project. In such case, the use of the word "creation" seems to heavily imply building something. Than again, the way the story between Silvana and Titania ends really does imply that Titania was self aware on some level, so I guess this is just confusing to me...
Having umbra chilling in the rec room would be great. Just in general have him chilling on the couch near the octavia station. That's where I have his tea set, anyways.
they were all Orokin 3:53, also, there's one umbra variant in lore, Excalibur, they were all orokin who were covered in infest to make it easier for for the operators to do the transference thing, just umbra, is, a bit more... Alive
I'm pretty much fine with lotus not coming back. Want to go back to being more space ninja, and less of children just playing ninja using mind powers. I want my Tenno to grow and operate more ninja like and make his own decisions without seeking to rely on the lotus or being swayed to do things for her. Not to say she can't appear anymore though. Just not in the role she was before. Though I rather the announcer for doing missions at least be replaced with your tenno instead of ordis imitating Lotus.

WARFRAME The game marketed as "si fi space ninjas" yet there's only 1 (arguably 2) ninja themed frames. I'm not complaining tho lol, warframe wouldn't be warframe if you couldn't gracefully jump around as a train or cowgirl lmao
@Triburos and everyone who just started using Umbra or might not know. Umbras Slash Dash chains to other enemies close by with one cast, His exhaulted blade radial blinds with a slide melee, and his howl gets rid of sintient resistance proxs
This quest made me wish for other umbra frames, only to have that one more link to my favourite frame. Knowing your warframe is a sentient and concious guy/gal under the armor, that you fight together instead of with it, would be phenomenal. Even without counting in polarities, umbrals mods and different abilities.
Coming back to this video. I say that this quest was quite remarkable. It was fun and compelling. What upsets me is that they aren't doing anything with the new stuff they presented to us. Even now they haven't considered letting umbra be more active in the ship and to improve his ai. In the quest he never really cared about us and only dud what he could to survive. And even when he finally allied with us he had his own personality. He was able to think and act for himself. Nowadays he is just a meat shield and an aggro puller. A basic spectre. He needs his ai to be changed a lot. He needs to be less predictable so that we feel like he has his own plan. Back in the quest it felt like he knew what he was doing and how to kill enemies. Now all he does is spam 3 and shoot whenever he feels like it. And using umbra doesn't feel quite as amazing because now you don't know if he is going to actually work with you and not just run into battle like an idiot. All in all a great quest. Not well maintained after the quest. Still viable as a warframe. I'm going back to using Equinox's duality augment
I think this is only part 1 because they kinda left us on a cliffhanger so maybe they'll announce part 2 (Tau System) at Tennocon. There's always something big coming when Tennocon is around the corner.
He is a little upgrade over Excalibur Prime, which is a nice thing. His radial howl stripping Sentient resistances is a nice bonus, and could be tied nicely to the lore, maybe umbra variants being specifically used for elite missions on sentient territory, though I doubt the lazy DE will ever do something like that.
So since it was their consciousness that made warframes too hard to control for the Orokin, do u think they removed the consciousness and made Cephalons just for that reason? I mean. Ballas said they took their best to create warframes. So do u think there could be an Ordin frame out there? And look back at Octavia's Anthem when Suda was saying the music was familiar like it was from "another life". Could Suda have been Octavia?
My issue with the quest is, well one of em anyway XD is that they made TWW purely about Operators and man did they go out of their way to ruin that lot in terms of the personality they gave em. They said on stream the next one is going to feature the Frames themselves to balance out the Op-heavy content (as even PoE was pretty Operator heavy). Annnnd theeeen all we hear about is Umbra. One dude, totally unknown to us in terms of lore, conflicting with what we previously thought we knew about frames as Alad even said Warframe bodies do not make sense, so if a dude just grows meat and metal over his body that wouldn't be hard for Alad to comprehend, so no, this quest was not about _warframes,_ it was SOLELY about Umbra. A guy I don't care about as he was just added in, and his usable from was teased for far too long and that spark of interest faded a long time ago. And then we got space snidely whiplash who did stereotypical bad things because he's the bad guy and that's all there is to him. And apparently he's dead now, so another character added only to get killed off. Rell, we hardly knew ye. So folks who wanted warframe info got left waiting for actual information on that front, folks who wanted Lotus back also are left waiting on that front, and people who wanted content that lasts longer than an hour from this update were also left waiting on that front. Aye they just tossed in some random augments, but that's not gonna do it. We can't even REPEAT the quest to milk a second run through out of the extremely limited content this patch offered. UI is busted and, oi, 8 screens out of 131? What's the percentage of that? Lemme... six. SIX percent of the UI rework is complete, bravo! Oi. Bioshocky imprint meets rushed Beauty and the Beast feels good ending stuck in there for reasons. Sure they made the operator no longer an ass but how did that happen? And they made Ordis out to be snarky and totally out of character this entire quest, directly opposite of how they handled him in Octavia's. Bleh. Not a big fan of him so I'm not fan boi Ordis defending here, but consistency, DE. 'Remember me, Operator! I'll always cherish out time together!' to 'You have to stand up for yourself, Ordis!' and oh god the Mass Effect 3 "Star Child" crap. They didn't drop that connection yet? Anyway, I'll save *that* rant for after TennoCon. In some good news... what was the good news AH there we go. The part Umbra has his forearm pinning the Op to the wall? That part proves Warframes only listen when directly controlled as he had to touch him for it to work. Which in itself is minor, buuuut add in our frame saved us from Stalker before we even know Transference was a thing or how to use any abilities, at the very least our OG Frame showed some sentience and willing to help us out by it's own free will. THAT'S what I wanna know more of and what DE should have focused on. Umbra doesn't do anything for me except save me from having to farm him up a second time and the free slot is nice, but I want to know more about MY frame.

What’s funny is they didn’t even bring becca back in the next story quest, and you have to sit your ass down untill you get the necramech and tail jack to see her properly again. However, it was all worth it for umbra, really like his exalted umbra mega other prefix blade, literally just a free nikana :)
So when you go to old messages the lotus is still distorted and im on xbox so my opinion gets ignored. Still trying to figure out why stances have different names for the base attacks when they're all exactly the same. They read that one on a stream and had no idea what i was talking about
My theory is that Umbras (If there are more than Excal Umbra) and Primes are both people infected with a strain of the Infestation. The only difference is that Primes let ballas do it to them willingly and Umbras did not. Maybe the Primes that have dark default colors were still not sure wether to let Ballas infect them but then went through with it.
Cosmic Live I think primes are more likely from salvage parts from colonies after the made the Umbras. Umbras were needed because it is easyer to copy life rather than creating it. While Primes were the firsts Umbras are the zeroth patients. However I like your theory too and it creates interesting plot questions.
No way for us to know at this point in time. So it is very much possible for them to be a kind of prototype. From a logical perspective your theory honestly makes more sense. However from a storywriting perspective mine seems a bit more likely in my opinion.
So here are my thoughts. i feel the story quests are gonna be in seperate arcs. Vors Prize through The Sacrifice I'm dubbing "The Ballas Arc" where we learn more about Ballas and inevitably kill him. The next arc i'll call "The Natah Arc" where we fight Natah (Thats the lotus' True name for anyone who doesnt know) and Bring the Lotus Back. The third arc i'll dub "The Hunhow Trials arc" where we basically do trials to find where hunhow resides so we can put an end to him. I have a feeling the last arc may be called "The Hunhow Defeat Arc" where we finally defeat Hunhow, and perhaps get Stalker as a warframe (i doubt it though). anyway that's my theory on where DE is going with the story. (i feel that in octavia's anthem we didn't really Kill Hunhow, we just sealed him away again. so that's why i feel that the last arc is killing Hunhow.)

I am really concerned with the prices of primes getting lower with umbras appearing since they are better versions of them. I hope DE will make it possible so primes can be given to umbras as stat upgrades and cosmetics. I don't know how founders feel but it might concern them too since the prime excalibur is not as good as umbra (has same stats but umbra has bonus passive and altered ability and is easyer to get).
all i friggin' want now is a Rhino Umbra. Gimme my cannibalistic waifu from that Rhino Prime Codex entry, that has fascinated me for literal years now. They have to have plans for more Umbras right, or what the hell is the point in giving us those fancy uber unique mods??? Right???

DE does their best :( Sure the they aren’t perfect half the time but they are a small indie group running on a freemium. It’s not easy.

Agreed with the standing on the orbiter thing. Even if DE didn't want to spend the resources and time focused on making a single NPC specifically walk around the ship, something like a meditation animation would work wonders for the lore reasons.
Umbra shouldn't just be in your storage system like the other frames. While you aren't using him he should be doing things! Looking around the orbiter, taking a closet view of the place where he choked you against the wall, trying to fend off The Man in The Wall, just practicing his Nikana moves, etc. He kinda feels hollow as of now.

Im looking for the difference between him and other frames and maybe, Umbras are those who are "powered" by one traumatic memory which fuels their rage. Other frames dont seem like they remeber things of that sort, but Im 99% sure they were still people.

Honestly, I think all frames have that one traumatic memory in them. The operator gives them comfort over their memory and in turn allows the operator to use their bodies.
I think umbras are just earlier versions of frames that are stronger but harder to control, which you can see with Excal Umb's stats and ability to move around independently. Then they modified umbras into primes, making them lose their consciousness. And over time, the quality, prime blueprints' information slowly faded and became more uncommon, so only the basic blueprint remains commonly

Yes, and No.
It gives him the feeling of being unique, with him being a warframe which can do whatever it wants, without the operator controlling it.
Sadly, this unique feeling dies off rather quickly after the quest, as most people want umbra to wander the orbiter, inspecting things, resting etc.
The quest shows us that he isn't the only umbra made, which just gives us the mindset of a pokemon fan "GOTTA CATCH EM ALL!"
If all the umbra frames had a unique mechanic to them, i wouldn't have the same opinion as you, but i highly doubt that we can go further then JOJO/Persona jokes with umbra frames (If we actually get to find em)
More umbra's would be super cool but Umbra serves the purpose of being another character AND being a replacement for Excal Prime. Excalibur is the only frame without an accessible prime so that's why I think they haven't done any more umbras. Maybe they said more umbras are coming though idk
Honestly I don't want Lotus to come back. She consciously tried to kill us at the end of The Sacrifice, and she would have if Umbra hadn't jumped in and saved us. She very clearly isn't being manipulated, both Ballas and herself say as much at the end. In my eyes, she's irredeemable at this point. Teshin or Umbra himself should be our new guide. Or Ordis, but they never give him new voice lines outside of story quests, so I doubt it.

Gstyles 456 She had Battalysts out behind her while she spoke to us, and after she said "This...is what I am." the Battalysts all fired on us at once, but Umbra jumped in just in time to save the operator.
She had the sentients out behind her which fired at the operator. Before their beams could hit, Umbra jumped in and pulled us out of the way.

Pinecone Gaming Sentients don't think for themselves. These ones were presumably shards of Natah, just as all of the ones we've fought until now were shards of Hunhow. So in essence, we were really fighting her for the entire Sacrifice questline. Ordis or someone else even notes that the Sentient Mimics hadn't been seen since the Old War. Know what else hasn't been seen since the Old War? Natah, in Sentient form.

China frame is indeed still running, I play it sometimes to get info about the small changes and exclusives compared to the global version, I have no idea what they are going to do in regards to the sacrifice yet since the updates there are way behind, I think they are going to implement it normally since the Chinese founder one is named umbra prime, so they might have umbra from the quest and keep umbra prime for founders, umbra prime is visually identical to umbra. I need to double check but I think umbra prime has different stats although I don’t know for sure

Tbh. I'd love if the warframe just went about their business on the ship when you were operator. Like they could go sit in places, clean weapons, do natras or just walk around. It would make it alot less awkward than seeing your frame just stood there

Umbras are earlier versions of the Warframes, that were made before the Tenno. The Orokin tried to keep them under control by all means necessary, including tortured memories. The current Warframes were made so that the Tenno could control them via Transference, but Umbra has a Transference bolt too for some unknown reason. So Excalibur Umbra may actually be the first ever made Warframe, made even before Excalibur Prime (first known Warframe before the Sacrifice). Also, all the Warframes were humans before. They were mutated by the Helminth strain of the Technocyte infestation. Later, they were changed by the Orokin so the Tenno could control them.
Umbra is "another surrogate of the unholy Tenno" ~ (I think) Ballas.
Umbra's transference bolt is an unusual design according to Ordis.
Umbras are simply primes that were made with intact memories, probably as punishment. That's why they retain some level of sentience and autonomy. Ballas couldn't plan to use umbra as a warframe because he can't use transference, and even if he could he wouldn't because he abhors transference and the tenno.

Plus, I am also a little weirded out by the idea of "all warframes used to be people" if we can craft warframes in the foundry (and some of them we even craft the parts - than again we do craft Umbra in the quest...), and the fact that Silvana (in the Silver Grove quest) mentions that she "created" Titania - that terminology for mutating someone into a living weapon makes sense for someone like Ballas, but Silvana mentioned how she despised the warframe project. In such case, the use of the word "creation" seems to heavily imply building something. Than again, the way the story between Silvana and Titania ends really does imply that Titania was self aware on some level, so I guess this is just confusing to me...
Having umbra chilling in the rec room would be great. Just in general have him chilling on the couch near the octavia station.

I'm pretty much fine with lotus not coming back. Want to go back to being more space ninja, and less of children just playing ninja using mind powers. I want my Tenno to grow and operate more ninja like and make his own decisions without seeking to rely on the lotus or being swayed to do things for her. Not to say she can't appear anymore though. Just not in the role she was before. Though I rather the announcer for doing missions at least be replaced with your tenno instead of ordis imitating Lotus.

@Triburos and everyone who just started using Umbra or might not know. Umbras Slash Dash chains to other enemies close by with one cast, His exhaulted blade radial blinds with a slide melee, and his howl gets rid of sintient resistance proxs
This quest made me wish for other umbra frames, only to have that one more link to my favourite frame. Knowing your warframe is a sentient and concious guy/gal under the armor, that you fight together instead of with it, would be phenomenal. Even without counting in polarities, umbrals mods and different abilities.

Coming back to this video. I say that this quest was quite remarkable. It was fun and compelling. What upsets me is that they aren't doing anything with the new stuff they presented to us. Even now they haven't considered letting umbra be more active in the ship and to improve his ai. In the quest he never really cared about us and only dud what he could to survive. And even when he finally allied with us he had his own personality. He was able to think and act for himself. Nowadays he is just a meat shield and an aggro puller. A basic spectre. He needs his ai to be changed a lot. He needs to be less predictable so that we feel like he has his own plan. Back in the quest it felt like he knew what he was doing and how to kill enemies. Now all he does is spam 3 and shoot whenever he feels like it. And using umbra doesn't feel quite as amazing because now you don't know if he is going to actually work with you and not just run into battle like an idiot.
All in all a great quest. Not well maintained after the quest. Still viable as a warframe. I'm going back to using Equinox's duality augment

I think this is only part 1 because they kinda left us on a cliffhanger so maybe they'll announce part 2 (Tau System) at Tennocon. There's always something big coming when Tennocon is around the corner.
He is a little upgrade over Excalibur Prime, which is a nice thing. His radial howl stripping Sentient resistances is a nice bonus, and could be tied nicely to the lore, maybe umbra variants being specifically used for elite missions on sentient territory, though I doubt the lazy DE will ever do something like that.

So since it was their consciousness that made warframes too hard to control for the Orokin, do u think they removed the consciousness and made Cephalons just for that reason? I mean. Ballas said they took their best to create warframes. So do u think there could be an Ordin frame out there? And look back at Octavia's Anthem when Suda was saying the music was familiar like it was from "another life". Could Suda have been Octavia?
My issue with the quest is, well one of em anyway XD is that they made TWW purely about Operators and man did they go out of their way to ruin that lot in terms of the personality they gave em. They said on stream the next one is going to feature the Frames themselves to balance out the Op-heavy content (as even PoE was pretty Operator heavy). Annnnd theeeen all we hear about is Umbra. One dude, totally unknown to us in terms of lore, conflicting with what we previously thought we knew about frames as Alad even said Warframe bodies do not make sense, so if a dude just grows meat and metal over his body that wouldn't be hard for Alad to comprehend, so no, this quest was not about _warframes,_ it was SOLELY about Umbra. A guy I don't care about as he was just added in, and his usable from was teased for far too long and that spark of interest faded a long time ago. And then we got space snidely whiplash who did stereotypical bad things because he's the bad guy and that's all there is to him. And apparently he's dead now, so another character added only to get killed off. Rell, we hardly knew ye.
So folks who wanted warframe info got left waiting for actual information on that front, folks who wanted Lotus back also are left waiting on that front, and people who wanted content that lasts longer than an hour from this update were also left waiting on that front. Aye they just tossed in some random augments, but that's not gonna do it. We can't even REPEAT the quest to milk a second run through out of the extremely limited content this patch offered. UI is busted and, oi, 8 screens out of 131? What's the percentage of that? Lemme... six. SIX percent of the UI rework is complete, bravo! Oi. Bioshocky imprint meets rushed Beauty and the Beast feels good ending stuck in there for reasons. Sure they made the operator no longer an ass but how did that happen? And they made Ordis out to be snarky and totally out of character this entire quest, directly opposite of how they handled him in Octavia's. Bleh. Not a big fan of him so I'm not fan boi Ordis defending here, but consistency, DE. 'Remember me, Operator! I'll always cherish out time together!' to 'You have to stand up for yourself, Ordis!' and oh god the Mass Effect 3 "Star Child" crap. They didn't drop that connection yet?
Anyway, I'll save *that* rant for after TennoCon. In some good news... what was the good news AH there we go. The part Umbra has his forearm pinning the Op to the wall? That part proves Warframes only listen when directly controlled as he had to touch him for it to work. Which in itself is minor, buuuut add in our frame saved us from Stalker before we even know Transference was a thing or how to use any abilities, at the very least our OG Frame showed some sentience and willing to help us out by it's own free will. THAT'S what I wanna know more of and what DE should have focused on. Umbra doesn't do anything for me except save me from having to farm him up a second time and the free slot is nice, but I want to know more about MY frame.

So when you go to old messages the lotus is still distorted and im on xbox so my opinion gets ignored. Still trying to figure out why stances have different names for the base attacks when they're all exactly the same. They read that one on a stream and had no idea what i was talking about
I'd say this is my favourite story quest in a while... Better written than the Deadlock Protocol, though that's not saying much.
That skin as you call it is more powerful then excal prime and he is one of the most powerful frames
My theory is that Umbras (If there are more than Excal Umbra) and Primes are both people infected with a strain of the Infestation. The only difference is that Primes let ballas do it to them willingly and Umbras did not. Maybe the Primes that have dark default colors were still not sure wether to let Ballas infect them but then went through with it.
Cosmic Live I think primes are more likely from salvage parts from colonies after the made the Umbras. Umbras were needed because it is easyer to copy life rather than creating it. While Primes were the firsts Umbras are the zeroth patients.
However I like your theory too and it creates interesting plot questions.
No way for us to know at this point in time. So it is very much possible for them to be a kind of prototype. From a logical perspective your theory honestly makes more sense. However from a storywriting perspective mine seems a bit more likely in my opinion.

So here are my thoughts. i feel the story quests are gonna be in seperate arcs. Vors Prize through The Sacrifice I'm dubbing "The Ballas Arc" where we learn more about Ballas and inevitably kill him. The next arc i'll call "The Natah Arc" where we fight Natah (Thats the lotus' True name for anyone who doesnt know) and Bring the Lotus Back. The third arc i'll dub "The Hunhow Trials arc" where we basically do trials to find where hunhow resides so we can put an end to him. I have a feeling the last arc may be called "The Hunhow Defeat Arc" where we finally defeat Hunhow, and perhaps get Stalker as a warframe (i doubt it though). anyway that's my theory on where DE is going with the story. (i feel that in octavia's anthem we didn't really Kill Hunhow, we just sealed him away again. so that's why i feel that the last arc is killing Hunhow.)

I am really concerned with the prices of primes getting lower with umbras appearing since they are better versions of them. I hope DE will make it possible so primes can be given to umbras as stat upgrades and cosmetics. I don't know how founders feel but it might concern them too since the prime excalibur is not as good as umbra (has same stats but umbra has bonus passive and altered ability and is easyer to get).
