Good luck, my landlord flooded my unit and destroyed everything I owned in the middle of winter and then filed a claim of renovations to take back the unit, and she was granted that even in the middle of a L&TB case against her meanwhile I have been paying rent in a place I couldn’t live for three months...while she renovated the unit to her liking and destroying my stuff even further during the process all I got back was the rent I paid, and she walked away with no disciplinary action and I was homeless, not to mention she lied several times and got caught and she still walked away.

Condo boom has ruin this city, nothing but dystopian glass towers that sit empty for years closedown storefronts and syringe needles littering your condo lobby. gentrification and renovations dose nothing to improve a community but force those who can't afford it out of the downtown area and makes the area look horrible. Making it harder for the next family to move in. A house built in the 1960s shouldn't cost a million let alone a apartment/condo built in the pass 5 years also 5k is more then enough for a months rent so be grateful XD

    1. Owners should be able to renovate their own property at any time.
    2. $5000 is a very good amount to relocate.
    3. There’s literally an influx of rentals right now going for great prices.
    4. They gave them ample time to leave
    People need to stop complaining

Obviously, you didn’t work hard in life and you blame society’s problems for your failure. And believe everything is owed to you.
They are taking a gamble, and believe that they will get a larger payout. Once you show that your willing to give to support relocation in the courts, the landlord has a higher chance of winning the case and not have to payout.

$2300 is criminal and insane for rent! I think people in that city have been slowly, over time become accustomed to these ever increasing rents! I am from the southern states and I watch this channel sometimes and I am shocked at the cost of living in Toronto. I don’t know how they do it! Sad

They can do this, but, they need to pay your rent for the months that you are not able to be in your unit, they have to let you come back to said unit, they have to pay for your moving expenses, and they have to charge you according to the same rent scale as before. This is In the residential tenancies act if this is happening to anyone else. This is just an attempt at pulling a fast one on unsuspecting renters who dont know how to defend themselves. If this is happening to you, dont represent yourself, find a Paralegal who specializes in Landlord/tenant matters and get what you deserve under the law

I'm curious to know if the new owner buys a apartment building and the mortgage for that price of the building requires you to fix up the units and raise the rents in order to cover the mortgage, what should the new owner/ investor do, take a loss every month of thousands of dollars. The reality is the rents these tenants are paying is not close enough to carrying the mortgage.
