We went from struggling to early retirement. We often get the question about how we were able to retire in our 40's and today we will share our story. It is not like most, we had very little investment and we had very little money to start but we made it work. We also share how we leveraged starting a UA-cam Channel to get things going.

So true!
@@GroundedLifeFinances - Congratulations! Keep on going from strength to strength! You've earned your success.
Great advice love your channel.
I’ve never watched a more transparent and informative couple on UA-cam. I’m very happy and slightly envious of your success and I know it didn’t come to you guys by accident - you both seem willing to do the work to make your dreams happen. I’ve known people through the years that have done similar things, but I’m thankful y’all are willing to tell how the sausage is made. Carry on please!
Thanks for your encouragement, that is great to hear, we really appreciate it!
Agree. The more popular ones for me come across too scripted w/similar style and format. It doesn’t feel natural but I’m sure there’s alot of pressure now on creators.
I second that! Y'all are inspiring! God bless y'all on your journey and thanks for sharing it with us!
I’m definitely for early retirement options! I can’t take the “rat race” anymore 😢
I 3rd that so down to earth and inspiring. Keep up the good work!!
I’m 55 and have been retired for 6 years. I have a 130K annuity, plus a 401k depleted to 150K of money that I’m not sure what I can do with at this point.
Not a great April but if you step back and actually look you will see the S&P 500 was up for the first Quarter. In the last 30 days, my IRA saw a gain of $70k. You might consider financial advisory if you're experiencing significant drop.
Right, a lot of folks downplay the role of advisors until being burnt by their emotions, no offense. During the covid-outbreak, I needed a good boost to stay afloat, hence researched for advisors and thankfully came across one with grit. As of today, my cash reserve has yielded from $350k to nearly $1m.
Your advisor must be really good. How I can get in touch? My retirement portfolio's decline is a concern, and I could use some guidance.
There are a handful of experts in the field. I've experimented with a few over the past years, but I've stuck with ‘’Jennifer Leigh Hickman” for about five years now, and her performance has been consistently impressive. She’s quite known in her field, look-her up.
She appears to be well-educated and well-read. I ran a Google search on her name and came across her website; thank you for sharing.
I am a 54-year old Burnt-out doctor with $4.7M in declining investments, planning retirement soon. Seeking best stock strategies for market downturns.
At a point like this, when the pressure is already on you to retire, its best recommended you seek the services of an advisor, as this allows you make smarter investing decisions.
Opting for a financial advisor is currently the optimal approach for navigating the stock market, particularly for those nearing retirement. I've been consulting with one for a while, and my portfolio has grown by 85% since Q1 2023.
Your advisor appears skilled. How can I contact them? I've recently sold property and aim to invest in stocks, seeking guidance.
She goes by "Melissa Elise Robinson" I suggest you look her up. To be honest, I almost didn't buy the idea of letting someone handle growing my finance, but so glad I did.
Thank you for sharing, I must say, Melissa appears to be quite knowledgeable. After coming across her web page, I went through her resume and it was quite impressive. I reached out and scheduled a call.
I think another reason you've been so successful is that you are both great communicators. You simply speak conversationally instead of using the rapid-fire, sing-song, reporter wannabe style SO many youtubers use. Thank you for that! Congratulations on your success!
Thanks!
As a wife, I love how you look to your husband. I can see the love and respect.
Underrated comment and observation. I truly appreciated that aspect of the video.
And how he does the same! :)
Really? I was distracted by her turning her head to him every few minutes. Otherwise good video.
Great comment.
@@christinesalomon4903 😒 please go somewhere else with that.
We sold our house for $550,000 after 10 years having paid $240,000 took the equity and moved to a cheaper town, paid $190,000 for a duplex, rented the basement and bought a rental house next door. We now live off the rental income and retired. The new houses have doubled in price after 8 years. We can easily live on less now we don't have to dress to work or commute, buy lunches etc no car payments, make food from scratch. The tenants are paying for the houses plus our living expenses, with no mortgage payments or debt we are richer than when we worked !!
Awesome plan!
And now your tenants will never be able to own a home in this market. But you can retire while they toil away for you! And somehow you live with yourselves.
@@modernanimist2421 Orrrr!......they [the tenants] can begin to change whatever is necessary in their situations, and build for themselves a better outcome.
THAT is the point this couple is making here!!!
I feel like I just watched a great TED Talk! Very inspiring. Good fortune often comes when people are willing to think out of the box. Most people wouldn't be willing to relocate to another state, let alone other countries. You're successful because you're willing to adapt and do whatever is necessary to open doors. Your contribution to the world is being rewarded!
Wow, thanks so much! Your kind words are always appreciated, and encourage us!
Well said.
One thing I noticed is you both talked about your income as combined and you did this together and not separating your incomes in your mind. You both have true partners in life. That is the most necessary thing.
That’s what it takes you have to work together as husband and wife. That’s the secret ingredient to marriage and finances
You have absolutely no idea how much hope you have given me. At 77 and still having to work you have shown me a way. Can't thank you enough!! First time I have had any kind of hope in a very long time.
Wishing you all the best!
16:50 “what’s the point of learning something, if you don’t share it with people”. God, I wish more people have this mentality. thank you for all this information. It’s good to know though that you can travel on a smaller budget than I thought that was possible to begin with. I’ve been wanting to make videos myself for a while, for this exact reason, I just like sharing knowledge and inside tips.
Thanks, we appreciate you sharing your thoughts!
I think the most important take away is what Rob said, if you don’t change anything, noting will change. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you
Wonderful video. I lost my house to bankruptcy in 08 and moved into a little apartment and I was so happy in that apartment and then nine months later the apartment owner told me that they were selling the building. So I cobbled together the little bit of money I had to buy a tiny house barge. Not long after that it started to take on water seriously enough to haul it out. I fixed it up paycheck to paycheck while staying with some friends and ended up selling it. By the way, it was featured in Macklemore‘s video next year. Anyhow, I pulled myself out of the Mire, and lived very slim and continued to save and now I have a house in Mexico. Glad to know you.
Awesome story, thanks for sharing!
Allie and Rob, you are a breath of fresh air amidst a lot of doom and gloom these days. Your amazing transparency, your willingness to share and educate have empowered so many of your viewers to step outside the status quo. Thank you.
Our life basics right now for a family of 4 are just over $7,000 a month. Our oldest may move out in a year or two, and our youngest, due to health issues, may always live with us. We want to take him around the world with us, and your content is making my husband actually believe for the first time that it is possible! You are inspiring our family, thank you.
Thanks, all the best to you in your adventure
1. Pick the right partner in align with your goals.
2. Dont have any children. Wont make it impossible but will significantly delay for about 20 years.
3. Live below your means and track every purchase on a zero dollar budget.
4. Have 3-6 months of emergency fund.
5. Stay out of all conumer debt. No credit cards, (i dont play the chasing points game) no car payments, no loans.
6. Buy a house that you need not want. A house that is below your budget. Remodel over time instead of buying move in ready above your budget. Always buy a home below your means.
8. Pay off that house early before retirement. We paid ours off in 10 years instead of 30.
9. Invest heavily (close to maxing out) into at least one 401k/roth ira for a minimum 10-15 years while working.
10. Have multiple streams of income when you do retire.
I had kids so it slowed things down, but I've accomplished everything else on my list by age 40. I'm retired now living off YT earnings, military pension, and part time work online on my own terms. Wife works to keep healthcare for the kids. I quit my job of 16 years last year to be home with my teenage kids as I worked graveyard for most of their life and I have no regrets. Wife will quit in about 5 more years when the kids move out. Other than I can not tap into my 401k for another 19 years lol but by then it will be massive from compound interest and cannot collect social security for another 22 years lol. They will both be extra icing on the cake at that point.
But life is good. No debt. Paid off house. Money in the bank. Taking multiple small vacations every year. Enough in 401k to keep the lights on in my senior years. Time with family all by age 40. Wife and I will travel more and have our house be our home base when the kids move out. My Only regret is wasting my entire 20s on stupid shit and listening to my broke friends and broke family and not being serious about finances.
Everything looks great but not number 2: one they said they have 2 kids and secondly family is far more important than more money. But its a good idea to learn to add AND to your vocabulary. You can have money and children. If I didn't have kids, I wouldn't have felt so happy and I wouldn't have been as motivated to be selfI-employed and make way more money than otherwise (and yes that's even after the "cost of my children"). Having children has increased my income and lifestyle significantly. Because of them I live a dream life in Florida and the Carribean at just 40- and I home educate my kids. Also, my husband passed away without life insurance (big mistake but he was young and his passing was very sudden)- but yet because of my kids, I've gotten myself to this dream lifestyle, homeschool and work part-time hours. Without them- I'd be like everyone else running in a hamster wheel. I thank God for my children!!!!
Clay and I have 4 years ahead of us to retire and begin the new chapter of our slow travels new life style. I actually just created my new UA-cam channel. No subscribers and No videos yet though. 😅 But wanted to let you know that you guys are the first channel that I just subscribed. I can't wait to start sharing our planning and our journey as well. And I really appreciate all the guidelines coming from you guys. You are definitely my first source of inspiration.
Here because 30 and a wake up
Thank you for sharing your awesome story. After 33 years in corporate America, I retired at 57 as an executive following my wife who retired at 54. We were blessed to have great benefits during our working years after eight corporate relocations. I’ve been thinking about doing YT to help people achieve their dreams. You both are an inspiration, well done!
I think you just changed my life! As soon as my husband gets home from work, I am going to watch this again with him. You have no idea how much I needed this - thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️
Wow, thanks, we appreciate it! All the best to you.
I just do not understand why it's retirement versus a new career. YOU TUBERS have a working income. Love your channel, though.
Very good point. I think it's mainly seen as "passive" since there is a delay from making content to getting paid, and it can somewhat keep going if you stop. However, it never was passive and it's categorized tax wise as ordinary income. I suppose since you don't have to go into an office, you feel "retired"?
I always assumed you two had inherited money. Great story.
Not everybody can be successful at you tube. You are both articulate and good communicators.
Good job. Surprised to see a channel with 8k subscribers earning $700/month. Gives hope.
Thanks!
Happy to see a great couple succeed and give a blueprint for others to follow. Bravo!
Thanks so much!
I am 47, and I have been making money online for a while, but I am definitely praying that I will get monetized on UA-cam soon. I have the subscribers, but I just need more watch hours. I would love to be able to retire in my 50's. I love what I do as a teacher, but it literally drains all of my energy. I am also from Atlanta, and it has become super expensive even though I live deep in the suburbs.
Wow, thanks for sharing. I am a kindred nomad, retired early, fulltime camper-van explorer thru-out USA & Canada for 5yrs sharing inspiration on my UA-cam channel! Bravo folks!
Thank you. Honest and generous couple.
This year I'm 39, starting my financial journey at 32 living with a disability and financial journey is to be off disability and I'm shocked at the progress once I started and kept it going, even with a very low income.
glad I found your chanel. looking to retire in Asia in 5 yrs, when I'm 55. I was born in Philippines. But I only want to live there 6 months out of the year.
Best of luck!
you are both are very kind to show others whats possible!
As a 25 year old this makes me hopeful to be learning early, but also sad because it just seems like a huge uphill journey to even get to a point where I could afford to buy a house these days. Really focusing on trying to make online income asap!
I am subscribing just based off how real this video was. Thank you for sharing your journey. Very inspiring, I really want to experience living outside of the US at some point too.
You are doing good work with sharing your personal story.
You put the work in, and you are reaping the rewards, that is how merit works.
Thank you for the inspiration. Both my husband have no assets except our retirement funds which we can’t access until we are 60 so this will limits our capacity for any equity growth and we are both to shy to start a UA-cam channel but we are seeking other ways of making an income online so we can travel the world but until today I genuinely thought was impossible but you inspire us to consider what possibilities may be out there for us.
Very inspiring!
Your guy's history is similar to ours; we started our online business 28 years ago. I was an accountant at a law firm and loved this job, but I quit my job at 32 years old and started a shipping and packaging business. I sold this business after five years, and then we started the Online business. We make and sell products online and love being our own boss. But now, I am ready to make another change. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas with us, I want to hear more about how to make passive income. I plan to take this course. Love you!
Thanks for sharing your story, it is great to hear what others have done.
Thanks for sharing + video!
Truly appreciate this video ❤

Thank you for sharing your story and having transparency. Love seeing your retirement adventures! ❤
I love these videos. My goal is retire from my job in 2 years but I can't imagine not making money. You guys break it down and give me and my husband a lot to think about. THANK YOU
Thanks!
Very inspiring Video, Would Love to hear more from you, thanks
Thank you! Will do!
I get what you're doing but I really struggle to call what you're doing retired. You really ARE still working it's just irregular work supplemented by passive income and made possible by moving to a low cost of living country. For example, I follow a number of UA-cam sail boaters that are doing something similar to you and none of them consider themselves retired. They just started on a shoestring, gathered a UA-cam following, developed some "merch", get sponsors, and create Patreon content. All of those smaller revenue streams combine to allow them to keep going and by some measures do quite well. My definition of being retired is living off income from non-work generated sources. All that said, I applaud you for finding a way to live a "retired like" lifestyle while you're still young enough to do all the things you want to do. Cheers!
I agree with you, this is fully digital nomad, not retired and living on passive income. I'm personally trying to work towards fire with stocks and index funds but it's probably another 10 years before I get there. They did make me think hard about keeping the house though. It costs alot of money right now to live in a HCOL area and being an expat would def speed up the fire but I'm not much of a traveler
@@beepdotboop
Keep at it with the stocks. It will be a more secure form of income and with patience, grows considerably
And all these ‘retired’ UA-camrs make companies like GOOGLE more profitable
Buy the S&P 500 and set and forget. Surely BUFFETT can’t be wrong?😊
I just discovered you on UA-cam last night, and I'm hooked. You're living the dream. I'm just praying that I can do that someday.
Funny I just discovered them today! I've been watching tiny home videos as well. Guess this is showing us what's possible for us as well. I'm excited to do this in 10 years. Best wishes on your journey 🙂
So encouraging, I am just creating quizzes to go online!
Thank you for your honesty and sharing what so many others are too afraid to talk about!!
You are both very inspiring! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much!
Dream team, thanks for sharing your journey
I'm so glad I came across this video. Your story is amazing. Thank you for sharing.
You both are so inspiring. I retired a few years ago at age 48 but haven’t traveled much. My initial plan did not fall through and I didn’t have a Plan B. Thank you for being so transparent.
You’re inspiring! I am 38 and hope to be like you when I reach 48. 🎉
Thanks for sharing! This provides helpful info & more importantly hope!
Congratulations to your nice income from UA-cam! It took a lot of hard work and good fortune. Hoping you future success

❤ I have never heard of you before. But it showed up in my feed and the title was curious. I so appreciate your transparency and humility and vulnerability. No hype no gregarious script just simple honesty from real people. You are both so relatable and I’m looking forward to checking out your other videos. I love to travel and would love to do more of it when I can get my financial situation back in order. I have been wanting to start a UA-cam channel for years and just hasn’t been able to step into it. This was encouraging more than encouraging. And I will check out your link on your Tips to creating a UA-cam channel. Thank you again.! God bless you both. You are living the life that I would very much like to have.

UA-cam is in my business as usual and decided to show me y’all’s Retire To A Hotel video. Then I made my way here. I have only ever commented once on UA-cam. This time subscribing and giving a thumbs-up didn’t feel like enough. OMG! I love this for y’all and for ME! Thanks for sharing. You’ve helped me streamline some decisions. Also, I love how chill y’all seem. Keep thriving!

Excellent video with great advice! Thank you both for sharing your story. I love your teaching style of video; such a welcome relief from the 15 second attention span that is Tik Tok. Thank yoU!
Love your story. Gives us all hope. I live in Atlanta and can attest to how it gets more expensive.
