    Hi @DavidSolomononline,
I just discovered and listened to your lectures. I am from a background where I do not know much about the Jewish history, but have been reading the Holy Bible starting from the Old Testament. Your clear explanations have been extremely helpful to me because they gave me the historic background to understand some of the books I have been reading. Honestly reading the Holy Bible is easy, but understand it is not at all. So, thank you so much, and I hope I can find more of these videos from you. God Bless!

Hello Avrohom, we're glad you enjoyed the lecture. Re your question: yes, the Sadducees were priests so therefore brought most of the sacrifices to Bayit Sheni. Many thanks, Marjorie Solomon :)

I like David Solomom and appreciate his openness and realistic teaching of Jewish history. Having said that, his analogy ( 58:50 ) where he insinuates that the State of Israel forcing Palestinians in the West Bank to convert to Judaism may be a good idea is horrifying.

Whilst I enjoyed your presentation and much of my interest was focused on the ancient Middle East, and certainly after watching this I have even more questions allow me to give a constructive criticism as I think you focus and waste time too much on periods and time frames that we already have maths for, especially in the 6th chapter. Maybe because I'm not Jewish and there is many aspects I don't feel passionate about, I think it's just confusing. Furthermore if you frame the Maccabee Republic as an independent State and a Roman period as separate it's also misleading as it seems to me Rome was using Judea as a proxy against the Seleucid Empire and it's support wouldn't have come for free as this divide and conquer strategy would be repeated by many other empires and subjects through history.

Hello, @marcokite is correct. This historical period pre-dates the time of Jesus. It seems like the assumption is that the "Old City" like it is today, built by Suleiman and the Ottomans, was rebuilt almost exactly the same way as it was during the 2nd Temple period..?🤔
I'm not so sure about that.
There is credible evidence that the city was so completely destroyed in 70 AD and even more so again by Hadrian after the Bar Kokhba revolt, that it was completely unrecognisable as a city, fulfilling the prophecy that "not one stone will be left on another".
And seeing as Jews were then banned from the city for about 500 years after that, I highly doubt that any of the rebuilding that took place was based on what existed before 70 AD.

you missed a bit. you missed the first 8,000 years of history of the people of Judea; the most remarkable and significant part of their history - their building possibly the world's first walled city, Jericho. And you missed out the second most significant part - the period between 1000BC and 700BC when Israel was a loose-knit bunch of nomadic warrior tribes, whilst the peoples of Judea were peaceful farmers.
That makes your lectures decidedly third-rate.
Correction - 4th-rate, because you then say you are going to report the Bible as a factual record of pre-500BC, when it's demonstrably fiction, a rehash of the Epic of Gilgamesh and a few other stories. That does a great disservice to Jewry, and to history generally.
    Shameful.
