Sewing the Fitting Band for a Bra Featuring the Eve Classic Bra by Porcelynne

- When sewing a bra for the first time, it is highly recommended to make a fitting band to make sure the band and wire fit you properly before sewing a full bra in good fabric.
Introducing the newest bra by Porcelynne, the Eve Classic. While the style lines may be simple, this is the first pattern of many to offer up to about 1000 different variations. You said WHAT? Yes, I said 1000 sizes-ish.
There are 13 different band sizes and each band size is available in up to 10 different wire sizes for each band and each band is available in 4 different upper torso body shapes. The cups are released separately and are available by your selection of wire. Each wire size has up to 10 cup sizes available and each of those cup sizes has 4 different upper body torso shapes available.
Have I lost you yet? This was a personal challenge of mine to see if a feat of making custom fits available without a custom drafted bra was possible. The first set is all designed for the regular wire by Porcelynne, although the Eve is also in testing for our vertical wires. Those should be available shortly.
These bras have helped me master an unthinkable grade. One in which I can use to grade new cup and band designs. The possibilities are endless and these bra parts can be mixed and matched. While this is only the first design and it has taken me 3 months to master, I do plan to work on new designs more frequently. Be sure to check out this pattern at porcelynne.com...

I'm Jennifer Fairbanks. I'm the founder, designer and jack of all trades at Porcelynne, a specialty & lingerie supply shop. (www.porcelynne.com). I have been instructing sewing and fashion design for about 20 years and authored the Bare Essentials lingerie design and construction book series. I am also the author of Fashion Unraveled.
I am currently working on creating downloadable patterns for a wide range of sizes and am allowing my patterns to be used for businesses.
I am also beginning to teach my 6 year old daughter how to sew. I have started work on a series of videos called "Sewing with a 5 Year Old." (soon to be renamed for her most recent age) They are less about doing and more about interaction of teaching a child to sew.

super! I just made my very first bra, the new Cashmerette pattern. I didn't do a fitting band because I'm impatient and didn't have the correct fabric and just wanted to throw it togeter to see what would happen. Also because I didn't know I should..
Amazingly, it turned out better than I expected! so now I will start over with the correct fabric and make a fitting band, first. thanks!
That's great. I also made a slightly different video for making a fitting band for the Willowdale. The main difference is I made the front in two pieces to help determine bridge width.
THIS IS IT. It is so a lifesaver for fitting. Thank you for this Video. Please make another now about inserting the cups in the fitting frame.🙏
Glad it was helpful!
Your videos are fabulous thank you. I have just started looking into bra sewing and I am grateful that someone on a FB site pointed me to your business. Again - terrific thank you.
Michelle Dunne be sure to check out my blog too. I usually write posts to support and back up the videos, patterns and books.
The ONLY video I found to be so simple & sew detailed & didn't lead me to some affiliate site🙏🏼!
Literally I've been looking
for instruction like this FOREVER!
Do you perhaps have a video on inserting the cups ?
It would so greatly be appreciated 💕🙌🏼
Thank you for your beautiful work! 🙂🌺
I'm glad this helped. I usually also have a blog post associated with all of my videos so you can get more information on the items being sewn. I am terrible about adding links in my videos except at the ends.
Very useful information !!!!
Thank you so much !!!
Glad it was helpful!
good fitting band instructions
Thank you.
This is actually a brilliant idea. I’m so excited to make one for myself.
Your teaching is great
Thank you! 😃
I have made several bras. You make it look so easy. Thank you. I an looking forward to trying your method of band and cup choices.
I've been sewing my entire life, so I could probably sew a bra with my eyes closed and it still look half decent.
For a beginning bra seamstress, this was a clear film. Thank you very much
I'm glad it was easy to follow.
i use a bunny hop (what i call it) under my foot along witht the beggining of the delicate fabric. it is essentially a little piece of fabric to put there so it doesnt get sycked down. i feel like u know that, but maybe someone reading this doesnt
I actually just picked up a tool invented by Sandra Newman called a Hump Jumper. I haven't used it yet. I keep forgetting to put it next to my sewing machine. I could have used it yesterday when fixing a hem on a pair of shorts.
Thanks Jennifer for this video and all the others for the Eve bra. I have made myself a bra band, that actually fits. I am so happy. Next challenge: the Cups.
Baby steps. I'm glad my video helped you.
One thing I cannot figure out, do you remove the wires to sew in the cups? I've tried with the wires still in the casing and I keep not being able to sew the cups in.
Yes. Remove the wires.
May I ask please ( totally new to this) can this be made from any non-stretch scraps (other than the powernet obviously lol) ? Thank you in advance
Yes. Ask long as you stabilize the fabric
@@Porcelynne thank you so much
Is there a way to test cup sizes as well? I looked but didn't see a video for it.
Once you have your fitting band, you can sew cups into it to check for your size. I have the Eve Classic pattern, that gives you an estimate of what size to start with based of your measurements.
So how do we do this without nasty zigzags everywhere?? Is there even a way?
I'm sorry if I'm coming across as mean, I want to make something nice enough to wear and I am unable to find anyone to tell me what I have to do to avoid all the standard home ways to do it that leave the horrible finish that I certainly couldn't bring myself to wear... There must be some way around this please
You can probably use a straight stitch on the front where the band doesn't stretch, but anywhere it stretches, you need a stretch stitch. I know some people use their fancy machines and use a fancy decorative stretch stitch, but otherwise, it would need to be a zigzag or a coverstitch.
I’ve watched this one multiple times - so much information. I can’t wait to get started - a good fit is in my future. Thanks!
