Hey Alex. Nice to see another mini reef 120 setup from the start. The return pipe tube in mine was also too long and didn’t meet up with the allocate hole in the overflow section. The store I got it from said something about change in manufacturing or something. They just gave me another one which was about 7mm shorter and “problem solved”. Just watched all your videos. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
NATAL B REEFING That's interesting - I'd feel much safer with a proper length pipe than a workaround! Ah well, seems fine now. Thanks for subscribing, welcome to the channel!
Hilarious! Watched your bite dork channel beginning of the year when researching on the 2017 Monster 1200S I got and now I’m watching this as research for the Red Sea Reefer 170 I’m getting this week. If you’re not the bike dork than you look quite similar :)
The Reef Dork got this one just to check out if the hobby is right for me. If I like it I'll probably go 425XL. Red Sea make great stuff. Termi is sadly a no go. I ride a lot in Germany and Austria and when, not if, they get you there's trouble. Need a Euro 4 one so QD, but Akra and SC are making some 2018 apparently. In Holland I can still be naughty and take the baffles out. :)
Cool, the euro 4 termi is a rip off so fair enough to wait for the others. There's a remus with an optional cat that you may have seen. Anyway... 425 is a great size - I hope you enjoy the journey!
The Reef Dork yeah I did see the remus but not my cup of tea style wise. Got some dead rock today so start of my Reefer is imminent. Happy holidays btw and keep up the videos.
Hey bud, you can adjust the screws on the hinge (not the ones attaching it to the cabinet, but the ones on the hinge arm) to adjust the doors and you'll get them to close. That's the good news. The bad news is once your sump is in and filled you won't be able to get at the bottom ones without taking the sump out again. Soooooooooooo, do what I'm gonna do next time... first time... I clean my sump in a few months. REMOVE the doors completely, take them to a local woody and get him to cut a lightweight one-piece (or two piece if it suits you better) in the same colour/grain and then attach them with magnetic strips. You can measure them to the floor as they'll fit and take the weight off it. Will work a lot better IMO as you won't have to worry about adjusting hard... impossible... to get at hinges no more and removing the door completely gives you much more access for working in the sump.
Gosford Reef The doors open and close fine it's just that they sit at a slight angle. It's not enough to bother me and doesn't affect the operation of the door though. Thanks for the suggestion though!
Those screws will fix that, play with the ones you can get at (the top) and note how it effects the angle. Still won't help you if the bottom ones need adjusting though unless you take the whole sump out.
Hi, I'm really looks to get into the hobby again but I'm not sure I want to jump in straight away to a 3 foot wide decent size tank. I've really been looking into the aqua one mini reef 120 or 180. I'm aware the equipment it comes with is not great but that's ok as long as it's good enough just to get it setup with a view to upgrade over time. So the appeal of being able to jump straight in at good price on these is really appealing. My question is, should I wait and just get a proper setup or are these kits and tanks good enough I'm going to be able to jump in, in an enjoyable way. Sorry for the long post. Appreciate you getting this far! Thankyou.
They're decent little tanks - I got this one less than half price at 6 months old. That's the the way to go for your first tank. I've just done a video on Friday in fact talking about where to save money on your first tank 🙂
@@ReefDork hey I've got the opportunity to pick up a used red sea reefer 250 for £450 including light, return pump and few other bits. Would you buy, a used red sea reefer 250 for £450 or a band new aqua one mini 120 for £450? Thanks
@@samhawkes6597 RSR all day - the mini reef is fine but the RSR build quality is vastly superior, as is the overflow system. And double the water volume gives you more space for corals and fish 🙂

@@ReefDork okay thanks for the reply though, I've recently setup a Mini Reef and thought it would great to fill a gap. I will keep an eye out see what I can find.
Hi Reef Dork I have an EVO 13.5 and looking at upgrading to the Reefsys 180, thinking of upgrading to this tank due to cost but mainly the space that i have, I my Evo i have had several clown fish die for no apparent reason would a bigger tank reduce stress for the fish. thanks for your time stay safe
Clown fish are rock solid so there must be something wrong with your water. Bigger tanks are easier for sure, but I'd figure out your problem before buying anything more
@@ReefDork I have just found some video on youtube on Brooklynella this is just how my clown fish looked, is this likely to have been introduced by the first clown fish but still be in the tank.
Hi I got this tank and need help with the plumbing can’t find a way to connect a clarisea roller filter to the overflow need help with the pipe size and what reducers to use
Started with dry rock - part from my old system (cleaned and acid bathed) and part new dry rock. I don't like using live rock any more because of things like aiptasia. Cycling sucks, i'm now an ATM Colony convert! Pico tank sounds good.
The Reef Dork Same here...I avoid live rock like the plague! 😂 I asked because I noticed some coloration on your rock so soon, but I guess that's the acid washed live rock that retained some color 😄 💙🐠
I'm about to upgrade to this tank, I can't wait.
Big fan of your content - cool to see how far you've come :)

You know you can adjust the hinges of the cabinet so they sit square?

No idea I'm afraid - I've never had a Clarisea. Call Fastlight - they do aquarium plumbing and can probably help.

Where can I get a mesh cover for this tank?

Thanks! 2 weeks today - it was 11 days old at the date of the video...

Hello, do you know if the aquarium is 120L or if the 120L is a combination of the tank and sump volume? Thank you
That's total system volume - I think the aquarium is about 90L
ATM COLONY is the best product on the market is used it aswell hats off to the stuff it's magical lol
