    Holy God this looks so good. I always love eldritch horror, and the idea of leveling is embracing delusion is too good.
    It makes me feel like there's gonna be some really interesting endings depending on you having a low level because you aren't very delusional.

    OBJECTIVE MARKERS MORE LIKE OBJECTIVELY BAD MARKERS!

    • @Quadrolithium
      @Quadrolithium Рік тому

      I agree it's better finding your way to the objective using... Common sense. Like this game, Outward, Half-Life and GTFO did.
      1st quest you get in Hallowshire: find a ship. Where the fuck is the ship? Fucking use your eyes and check if there's a flying ship around, and if you find it, walk to it's general direction.
      Outward: go to the conflux mountain, where the fuck is the conflux mountain? If you missed it, you will need a pair of glasses. Even the generic NPCs give a detailed description of where it generally is, what it looks like, and what landmarks you can follow to go to it.
      GTFO: Objective is in Zone 28, where is zone 28? Stare at the door you just came from or that huge ass "Section 27" "Zone 28 this way =>" at the wall to your right.
      Half Life: Gordon, you're late, go to the test chamber or you get fired. Where is the test chamber? You're an employee at this place, read the fucking signs
      These games treats you with respect that you are not a doofus, or a dog that needs a leash called "objective marker" to pull you in, but a functioning human being with more neurons in their brain than transistors in a computer or stars in the galaxy, but then again it's also the devs/mapmakers fault if they make a map that has no distinctive features whatsover, a map so boring, might as well name the place: generic field #2

    While I dunno if this sort of RPG is my jam, I absolutely love the graphical style, monster designs and creepy aesthetic. I hope this becomes a sort of cult hit and inspires a whole 32-bit graphics trend among indie RPGs

    This is awesome, thanks for sharing it! I love the idea of something as atmospheric and moody as Kingsfield having more roleplaying elements (and even straight up faction play) brought into it. This could be awesome. And I normally do think that the 32 and 64 bit graphical throwbacks are normally just nostalgia bait, but there's something different about this. It seems refined enough that it feels right to say it was properly accounted for to create a distinct visual style, not just cash in on the nostalgia for cardboard-ass graphics lol
    And yes, _I am_ wrong stupid and possibly smelly depending on the day, and that changes nothing!!
    Also I'm normally all about solid action in videogames, but there's one I played recently that you might get a kick out of called Paradise Killer. It's a first person open world exploration/visual-novel/investigation game that has one of the most delightfully unique premises I've found in a long while.

    I grew up on the NES and SNES so PS1-style visuals don't really do anything for me... but the concept, the wholef"I want to build a massive immersive world in this newfangled 3D-graphics but there are no set guidelines for how to do it so I'm just gonna go WACKY with experimental design to approach my goal"-vibe of it all? That is something I was and still am very fond of, so by virtue of that alone I think I'll be checking this one out. Good work putting light on the lesser knowns of the world!

      Absolutely! Indie games keep my passion for modern games alive. I like some recent AAA games, but the little devs are the ones that tend to really capture my imagination these days.

  • @neloangelo8

    Thanks for posting this review, it's a really good one! That's too bad about the algorithm making things like this more hidden than they should be. I wish more people were open minded about indie games, the creative freedom that is expressed in their games allow for amazing things that some greedy triple AAA publishers won't allow.
    The game itself is really shaping up to look amazing though! Having exploration be woven into the game mechanics is refreshing, like you actually have to pay attention to find your way around. The lack of weapon/ attack variety should be an easy problem to fix before the 1.0 release, just add more stuff! I'm sure they know this though. Looking forward to becoming immersed in this piece of art!

    Dread Delusion balanced itself between the open worlds of Elder Scrolls and Yakuza. Smaller than Elder Scrolls, but chock full of content like Yakuza is. You don't need a horse because it's not a big map, but still you will travel slow, not because you are slow, and even in early game you can get a spell that will get you killed 2/3 of the time because it makes you run so fast, you will definitely run off a cliff and die (which the developer says in their devlog: works as intended, this is the only thing that killed me, mobs? No problem, an island which I think I can sprint jump with the spell? Not doing that again). but because there's roadblocks in the way, namely enemies (you can either fight or stealth, I prefer fighting cause I need that loot), and our attention span of a monke: "oh look shiny thing, must pick up. Oh shit did I just trigger a sidequest?"
    There is a way to deal with Reputation which is stealth (avoid fights at all), and cunning, in one playthrough I managed to kill 2 Goblins. That's it. The rest are bandits and skeletons (bandits are only avoidable depending on your choices while skeletons are free game). In the forest area you will find a "true goblin" a goblin without a mask. Where is his mask? Pass a speech test and you will get a mask with shitty stats whose description reads: "A mask worn by goblins as atonement for their sins, wearing one makes you look like a different person" guess what it does when you wear it? Free pass on any goblin infested area. They will ignore you. My favorite thing to do with it is to pick fights with bandits and lure them to the goblins, free loot. I did not even fight any Wikkans and left them be. I killed their god indirectly though, because fuck him. But since it was indirectly, they didn't know it was me.
    As for why the Apostatic Union hates gods is because they are aware what gods can do, not as a threat to their teachings, but because some idiot human... Or a malicious one can make a contract with a god in exchange for something. An idiot harms himself without gaining any benefit. A malicious person on the other hand, fucks others up. You get to see this in the Castle where the duke was forced a sadistic choice by the chief god that I indirectly killed cause he's an ass. As for Magic the Apostatic Union allows magic and alchemy to a certain degree as long as you don't fuck yourself over. Healing spells are good however heavily regulated because one fuckup involving closing a bleeding artery, healed it but blocked the blood vessel. Solving absolutely nothing.

  • @Darek_B52
    @Darek_B52 2 роки тому +2

    My biggest problem is something that's just a side effect of early access. I never felt like my choices did much to the world. I don't wanna spoil but I'm hoping that come it's official release we see choices carry more weight on the world. Like one particular choice leading to npcs from one land having brief skirmishes with neighboring islands. Sorta like how on the first island you can spot a darkstar merc fighting a goblin.
    Also just some different music for special locations like the town or castle. Doesn't even need to be different for the cities (though frankly it would be cool for different styles of the same tune between cities like how the starting one is normal but in the endless realm it's got more of a spooky vibe)
    Also that lone spell you can buy can also be obtained via a wizards tower just a bit south of the first town. Near the farmland.
    As a fan of the Dread X Collection games I genuinely hope this one does well and the problems I do have are fixed.

    • @EmceeProphIt
      @EmceeProphIt  2 роки тому +2

      Yeah, I def have high hopes for the future of this game. I majorly agree with the music issue in particular. It's great ambient stuff, but it feels like there's...I dunno, 5 tracks? I'm also pretty sure decisions will matter more in future updates, so I look forward to seeing how stuff like factions work.
      And I actually found that wizard tower later! Thankfully you can sell extra copies of the same spell~

    This has one of the most creative settings/worlds i've ever seen.
    Also i like that you talked about how we people who didn't grow up with the low poly graphics, still like them. (i personally have a strange sense of nostalgia towards them, nostalgia of a time i didn't experiance).

    Whilst I probably wouldn't play this one myself(Really hate getting lost in games, it's among the reasons why I quit playing Dragon Age Origins and Inquisition), the soundtrack for me is BEAUTIFUL. Pure ear candy on my end.
    I'm also used to small osts thanks to Hidden/Scattered Objects not having very massive osts themselves. So that wouldn't be an issue at all if I were to play this game. Now noteworthy characters may deserve their own themes, but I'll leave that to those who will in fact play it to decide on that really.

      @@EmceeProphIt My feelings about this game are so complex that I've had to rewrite this comment 3 times already xD
      I would say it deffinitely takes some steps forward in a lot of important things, specially quality of life features, and they simplified a lot of concepts into new and better things, like how the new hero system is an upgrade from the xenoblade 2 blade system, but I feel like the plot is too similar to xenogears to stand on its own, specially since I finished xenogears for the first time the day before XB3 released so I also have it really fresh in my mind.
      but yeah overall great game, I'm doing all the sidequests I can find as I go so even tho I'm already 105 hours in I still not done with the game tho, so I hope the game proves me wrong by the end about all the xenogears comparisons.

    It would be nice to do what some other UA-camrs do and include time stamps to skip spoilers. For a game like this I'd probably need some examples of spicy things that happen to really get interested in it, and for classic games I already know I'd like to see your take on things like that, so I think these review videos would be stronger if spoilers with a timestamp to skip them were included.

      I do that for most story based things these days (if I feel like going into spoilery details, like my dragon quest 5 review a few months back) but this time I just sort of felt like omitting details to conjure a sense of mystery. Largely because this game is fairly unknown, and I just wanted to get more people curious about it. I get what you mean tho.
