      Axszi Realistically even if you had godly reflexed with your spear gun, or have your spear angled well: if a great white shark would attack you up front and you speared him, it would still bite a nice chunk out of you unless it's dead immediately by hitting brain or nerval system

      I doubt it, sharks don't have a taste for humans. Usually they are curious and may take a nibble out of someone if they get too close. If sharks were smarter they would avoid human at all cost or would only attack if food is very scarce.

    • @dtice69
      @dtice69 7 років тому +172

      sharks are opportunistic. we aren't their favorite food but they'll still eat us given the chance. the reason people think great whites "just take a nibble and leave" is because of a complete misunderstanding of their hunting techniques. they strike, tear off a limb, and wait for their prey to bleed out; same as how they deal with seals and sea lions. the only difference between us and seals is that we have boats to escape on and friends to pull us out of the water. anyone who has ever been attacked by a great white, alone, and further out to sea is usually at least partially consumed, if not eaten whole and never seen again.
      obviously we do our best to get out of the water after an attack because of blood loss, but sticking around for whatever reason would also mean the shark has another chance to attack you and finish you off.

    Two things. Smooth hammerhead is not a tropical shark but a temperate one, distributing all the way from the Sakhalin in the north to Tierra del Fuego to the south and tend to avoid equatorial waters. Also, fish really does not have to be warm blooded to live in cold waters: in fact none of true the deep sea fishes and polar fishes are warm blooded. Endothermy allows an animal to remain active in cold temperatures, but it also has the drawback of being very energy consuming.

    Years ago we rented a Shark Charter Over 1k and 4 friends and I took of from Brielle NJ on the LAST LADY , 70 foot fighting chairs and all took about 3 hours to get into the Canyon (area of deep Ocean) were you can catch Sharks,Tuna,and a number of other large. Now on a Shark Charter with 5 guys you draw straw's to see who fights first, second and so on, I drew second so at least I knew I was going to try and catch a shark my friend who drew first was on and landed a120 pound Mako. Now I was up after about 6 hours without any action the Captain says to me get ready fish on , I didn't want to use the fighting chair it was too far back from the stearn of the boat so I put on the shoulder harness with the clips that way you can clip the massive reel to your self anyway after 1hour the Mako I have him no more than 15 feet from the boat when he sees the boat he takes of again Maybe for like 15 minutes I finally get her to the stearn the shoot a 22 In the head put a tail line around the tail open the back hatch and very carefully tie her off length wise to the back of boat after the 3 hours haul back to the marina in Brielle weight my Friends which did come out to 120 pounds maybe 4 feet long. Now it's.my shark's turn you could tell it was bigger and sure enough it weighs in at 228 pounds I cut her head off because I wanted to keep the jaws fillet the rest of the shark into tasty morsols best day I ever had fishing

    Sharks are a very important part of the marine ecosystem. When "Jaws" came out in 1975, they suffered near extinction before they became protected in about 1993 or so. Interesting species. The most dangerous to humans is the Great White, the Bull and the Tiger. Also reef sharks, both black-tip and white-tip, who hunt in packs, can be dangerous. It was mostly reef sharks that killed so many survivors of the Indianapolis ship sinking in 1945. The most terrible shark terror and killing catastrophe in history!
    Sharks don't really like human flesh, but they are opportunistic feeders and won't hesitate to "test-bite" to see if a prey is fat enough to meet their dietary specifications. And the WAY they bite, with their sharp, long, serrated teeth and the way they move their head to saw through flesh is what severs blood vessels, then they will back off to let their prey (usually seals and sea lions) bleed out so it can't hurt them, before they go in to eat it.
    If you should be attacked, go after the eyes and gills and let it know you mean business, it WILL then back off and leave you alone. But blood and urine in the water is like a dinner-bell to them, so powerful is their sense of smell, so get OUT of the water fast if you've been bit and are bleeding and do NOT pee out in deep water!

    Great White Sharks are formidable and intimidating predators, but quite undeserving of the praise and god like qualities assigned to them by humans. This video is no exception where the narrator says in the opening monologue, " They will out swim, OUTHINK and out last everything they hunt" or words to that effect. Sharks DON'T THINK. Their brains are not highly developed. While not small, their brains are mostly lower brain stem, to use a human equivalent. This does not support night levels of intelligence and reasoning. They are basically a highly developed sensory organism that can detect stimulus in the water such as thrashing fish or the smell of blood and then react by instinct. The notion that they are somehow Lords of the sea is ridiculous. Their tough, until a Killer Whale shows up. Killer whales have been known to hunt Great Whites just to eat their liver. I am unaware of Great Whites hunting Killer Whales.

      from what i know, this is true. i don’t really know much about killer whales or anything that really hunts sharks, and i’m sure there’s some out there, although sharks are very vicious. they only have one thing they’re always thinking about: food. they will hunt and kill anything they want or think they can eat. sometimes they will bite something to see if it’s edible because they’re curious creatures with amazing abilities, and even if the shark can be killed my any other creature, i would sure as hell not want to piss them off or downplay their ability to chomp you in half lmao

    I just LOVE sharks! So majestic, but also deadly. Tiger sharks, mako, blue shark, great white of course! Sand shark, thresher... I could actually name off SO many sharks! My favorite would have to be a hammerhead or... possibly a megalodon. Could be a myth, but theirs to much proof for me to not believe there's a gigantic predator lurking in the depths of the sea... And for some reason I'm extremely curious if the megelodon really is alive after millions of years. I would say the megelodon definitely used to live in the dinosaur ages, no doubt about it, but like I said... could it really still exist today?🤔
