  • Wakayama is the spiritual heart of Japan and it is a perfect destination if you want spiritual, mental and physical recharge.
In this 5-day trip I will cover 3 main areas of Wakayama namely, Koyasan, Kii-Katsura, and Shirahama. Each of the area is unique from each other which makes it a "The Ultimate Wakayama Experience".
    Area 1: Koyasan
I was interested to visit this area because of the unique experience of staying in a Buddhist Temple. If you want to immerse yourself and learn more about Buddhism as part of Japanese Culture, then Koyasan is just the right place for you.
    Buddhist Temple I stayed in:
    www.koya.or.jp...
    Area 2: Kii-Katsura
Wakayama is also famous for doing a Kumano-Kodo Pilgrimage. However, given the limited days that I have I decided to just see the famous Nachi Taisha Waterfall. It's the iconic shot of Wakayama and Japan.
    Place to stay:
    Oyado Hana - www.kumano-tra...
    Restaurants:
Bodai Restaurant famous for Tuna Katsu (In front of kii katsura station) bodai.gorp.jp/
Kumano Coffee (15 mins from Kii Katsura station & overlooking Benten Island)
    Fresh Maguro (Tuna) Breakfast
Watch the live auction in the Katsura Port and head down for a fresh breakfast in the market

    Area 3: Shirahama Beach
Shirahama Beach is one of the really best-kept beaches. I was a bit unlucky though because it was rainy when I went there.
However, it does give you a happy vibe. There are also a lot of good restaurants and coffee shops in the area. So it's really perfect for a laid-back vacation.
There is a street called Shirahama Ginza and you'll basically all cuisines there.
Here are some of my top recommendations:
    Spain Valesta Bar: vale-sta.com/
Blue Bar Shirahama: This bar has a 5.0 rating! Perfect rating in Google Trips. So I was curious about it. You must try their original creation --Tortilla Pizza. The bar owner is super friendly too.

I'm excited for you. In Koyasan, if you could stay in one of those buddhist temples, I'd recommend that. It was really a great experience. Everything is! It was a very spiritual journey.

yes I got lucky and finally got a night at Jokiim Temple.I am shock that although the shukubo is quite pricey, those rooms sold out and fill up fast.@@rovingrobe

    Nice trip!!
and your video is so cool!!
    By the way
Could you tell me more about Nachikatsuura?
    Is it an inconvenient place?
And what should I bring there to make my future trip more enjoyable?

Thank you!! During that time, I don't have a car so I used local trains to travel. it is beautiful because the train runs along the coast. If you can drive, I think it is also beautiful to drive. Enjoy your trip!!

I think I already got them when I was in Wakayama. But there are English brochures for different prefectures in Tokyo Station - JR East Tourism Office. Thank you and hope you enjoy your trip!

I plan to spend a total of 4 days in Wakayama! One day to explore the Naichi falls and shrine, then staying at Hotel Urashima, which has cave onsens next to the Pacific Ocean. I’m gonna check out the 2 other shrines the next day, then stay at Shirahama overnight. I’m gonna explore Shirahama then go back to Osaka.
I’m visiting Koyasan as a daytrip from Osaka, since the temple stay is around AU$400 per night, really out of my price range as a solo traveler 😂 I’m wondering how much your temple stay cost?

@chisoey2986 nice plan! I really enjoyed this trip and top on my list for a Japan experience. I went to Urashima for a daytrip only - went onsen!
For the temple stay, there are affordable ones actually. Try searching Zofukuin. It's a room share for 55$ a night. Also, each of these temples have activities which you can join, just in case you can't do overnight 😉

@@rovingrobe thank you for the tips, but I absolutely cannot share a room with complete strangers 😂 I think I’ll do Koyasan on a day trip
