  • What happens when a weightlifter, bodybuilder, powerlifter and CrossFit athlete walk into an arena?
    The. Brute. Showdown. #TheBruteShowdown
That’s right - we’re here for round two folks and, this time, we’ll be watching the ladies compete.
Two days. Four athletes. Eight events.
In this first episode, you’ll be meeting the competitors and hearing what they’re most looking forward to in the competition (and what they’re most scared of):
    Mattie Rogers:
Weightlifter, 2016 Olympic Team Alternate, Bronze Medalist at the 2017 World Championship, Silver Medalist at the 2018 World Championship
    Brooke Ence:
CrossFit Games Athlete, 2015 14th Fittest Woman on Earth
    Dana Linn Bailey:
    Bodybuilder, 2013 Ms. Olympia
    Maddy Forberg:
    Elite Powerlifter
Who will win? That’s one secret we’ll never tell… (until you watch the episodes 😜).

women can bulk, it just takes longer depending on the woman. Some women (like my wife) keep fat off easily and naturally because she has a little more testosterone that the avg. woman. Shes skinny, (and doesn't work out for bulk) because she builds muscle definition easily. Like, terrible diet and all. Then our friend (who competes in bikini contest at bodybuilding contest) has a harder time building muscle (skinny fat before she competed). Women don't have the same testosterone level as men do, but some have higher levels than other females. It depends on the Gene's really. Now I'm talking about natural women. Drug induced bulk is a different story.

I couldn't go outside much because my Autism can be quite the bother, but lately I've been going to the gym doing muscle resistance training and I want to do weightlifting now! It's super helpful and supportive to see these women do this kind of sport, because there are more men who do this and often people worry about me becoming "bulky" as a girl. I doesn't matter to me though, I just want to do it because it's fun and it makes me feel happy.

Ignore any negative comments. All women should build as much muscle as they can before 30 because after that you start losing it and become more at risk for osteoporosis if you didn’t ever lift weights. Men that only care about physical appearance and not health are not men I have ever wanted in my life.

Weightlifter and Powerlifter-training for strength and some endurance. These two are more "respectful" of proper technique compared to crossfit athletes.
Crossfit athlete-endurance and strength. I've seen some of the worst types of injuries stemming from the unorthodox training and disregard for form in crossfit, looks exciting but I'd like to keep my knees, elbows and shoulder joints past my 50s.

basically Bodybuilding is about your physique and how well you can pull off poses.
Weightlifting focuses on mainly on "snatch" and the "clean and jerk" with a huge emphasis on form.
Powerlifting focuses on the bench, squat and deadlift with good form to lift maximum weight as you're able to.
Crossfit focuses on mainly injuring yourself and a total disregard to form and how you can lift heavy ass weigh for reps in as little time as possible. I'd recommend avoiding CrossFit as much as you can and if you hear it helps with endurance just do cardio instead or HIIT workouts.

Concepts tipically recognized as "feminine" and "masculine" are being deconstructed and transformed to the point where they are now obsolete when applied globally. Femininity for some means grace and fragility, for others (like these women) it means strength and perseverance. We're at a point in time were these ideas now mean whatever we want them to mean on a personal level. Great series ! How do you not love Mattie Rogers! Also, keep your funny comments away for Brooke, yes she had injury but she has achieved more than a lot of us, so show some respect ✊

I respect her. I respect the dedication it takes, and how far she got. I just don't respect CrossFit as a discipline, because it's dangerous, and not good for gaining fitness. I think there might be some athletes already at peak physique that can do it with lesser risk of major injury, but it is absolutely not for someone looking to get fit.

Well, some might say you could have picked another crossfitter who is currently competing and not recovering. BUT I still love it, and it is a sign of respect for brooke and her capacity! I hope that brooke will come back to the competition stage stronger and better than ever. :) All the best to all four athletes :)
