- Academy Award winning actress Cate Blanchett and playwright husband Andrew Upton are joint Artistic Directors at the Sydney Theater Company. They are in New York City to open their adaptation of Chekov's "Uncle Vanya." In an interview with WSJ's Lee Hawkins they two discuss the complexity of being married and running a theater company.

He's not ugly. She's just really beautiful next to him. Lol. It's obvious they make a good team. You don't marry the best looking person, you marry your best friend. He is lucky to have her but she is just as lucky to have him.
I love how they balance each other and shows respect. I don't know about "physical aspect", it's just opinion. How they genuinely listen for each other shows they mutually care and comfortable of each other.

Don't be ridiculous, he's the love of her life. If it weren't for him, she wouldn't be the magnificent woman she's become. They are very lucky to have found each other.
There are so many men who would be emasculated by being married to a woman so powerful in Hollywood, but he isn't...and never has been.
They're love is unconditional, and I think this is something that a lot of people don't understand.
Surely you can see how he grounds her.
He was also more established in the theatre industry than she was when he made it big, and Cate has always been a theater actress, so I think she learns a lot from him.

Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton seem like one of the most well adjusted couple in show business.
In many interviews Cate speaks very highly of her husband Andrew and Andrew is respectful, loving and so devoted to Cate. They have been married for 25 years.

They're almost the same age actually. He's only about 2 or 3 years older than her. And looks aren't everything - it's obvious she absolutely adores him, and their marriage has already lasted a lot longer than most of the so called Hollywood dream couples.

I saw this play at Sydney Theater Company... They have no idea about Chekhov unfortunately. I wonder if they ever saw this play made by other theaters in English speaking countries like Uncle Vanya from the Harold Pinter Theatre.
Okay so she's more physically attractive than him but they
seem so compatible and his voice is so soothing , his
manner is so unassuming that you forget his plain features
after a while and that's what I find attractive about Andrew Upton.

Interesting that the guy is a tenor and her with her contralto's voice sounds like a thunder by his side: Funny. About them as artists, I only know her work on Cinema. Unfortunally don't know nothing about Upton. Shame on me.

There was actually a funny scene where after they slept Andrew was about to speak and Cate thought that he was gonna ask to marry him but instead he said he was hungry, she was disappointed.
