I recently built a beluga liner that was designed for exploration and Mining at the same time. When you can come back with 200 tons of valuable materials and you have the option to do some mining when you get bored exploring it can a new activity to break the monotony of constant jumping. I kept the fighter Hangar and the size 6 surface vehicle hanger. I was able to pull off to build using the new Limpet controllers. They are heavier but as mentioned in the video the effects on the Beluga liner are minimum. Running the mining equipment made it where I could only go up to G3 or G4 low-emissions so it does get hot fuel scooping if you're not careful. But I'm jumping I simply shut down everything including the shield power distributor and all utilities not in use. It helps.
Suggestions: Change the Point Defense to slots 1 (only slot on the top) and 5/6 (slots close to the cargo bay). This allows protection from missiles in Guardian ruins, helps killing pirate limpets, and gives a nice 360° protection against missiles (though, why are you fighting on a Beluga anyway?) and mines. Weapon should be on slot 5. This puts it on center line of the ship, just below the pilot's seat. It helps with aiming.
Awesome build - been slaving over my first big build for exploration. Had to be the Beluga! After countless articles and videos I have struck gold here...at 4 in the morning. Very clearly argued. Sub earned in style. Thank you very much. Fly safe ;) Ps. Also added xeno scanner and research lc that I, in my inexperience, did not know I might need. Brilliant...
Thank you for the Beluga build. My main ship is a Dolphin explorer, and my Orca works nice. The Beluga explorer causes me headaches, though (got one Beluga miner and love it). I'll check on this build.
Hmm. Surprised you didn't put any passenger cabins on this for the long-range sight seeing exploration missions. I've never done one of those missions but everytime I think of a Beluga explorer build I keep thinking about them.
I'm not sure i understand some of the choices made for an exploration ship...A grade sensors for instance..how often will you be scanning something that you need to be just a bit farther away from? A Grade life support??? fighter hanger..yes i agree definitely "optional" same with such an overrated SRV bay D grade shield...good...but 6? collector limpet controller and cargo rack...you must do very different "exploration" than i do. When i go looking for cargo to pick up, I'm generally in a ship that's not really exploration grade. research limpet controller...*here* we finally see a use for the cargo hold..but to date I have never slotted one of these. Is there some massive income to be had from one, like there is for a Detailed Surface Scanner, or is it more of a novelty item? I'm with you however, on the docking computer, and even a supercruise assist. Some Earth Like worlds are over 100k/LS from the stupid drop..which happened to me today. Was nice to let the computer do the flying till nearer then take over. That's 10 minutes of my life I could do something else in :) I don't quite understand not undersizing the engines and capacitor, but if one were to attempt a high G landing this might be necessary, although the Beluga would not be my first choice for high G landings. my final thought on this, is that for planetary landings, the Beluga is possibly not the best. Finding a flat landing spot is perhaps easier in Odyssey, but I know in Horizons (I still don't have Odyssey) sometimes the place you find to land is postage stamp sized. Earlier today, In my DBX, I had to dismiss and recall my ship 5 times before if finally landed somewhere I could get my SRV back inside...it kept landing on lumps that just managed to block my SRV from re-entering. almost got wedged once, but managed to dismiss and resummon *again* to finally get loaded up.

I’ve been in the black with my Beluga since 07 December of 2019 exploring. I figure it’s time I make my way back to the bubble.

You have given a reason to purchase big Bertha
Hmmm, anyone got the build code??? I wanna make an Exploration Beluga
