Hello fellow Americans who have moved to nz. I also have been home brewing in NZ but I did this hobby in the USA as well. I too was shocked by beer prices when moving here. I didn't a bit of an analysis a few years back around prices and found a few things. - the lower quality beers are similarly priced: a 12 pack of pbr in the states is similar to what 12 pack or tui or speights is here. - homebrew ingredients are slightly less costly in NZ. Around 10% cheaper - NZ has a lack of mid level beers. In the USA I'd expect to pay 8-10 USD for a six pack of mid level beer like Deschutes or widmer and there LOTs of beers at that price point. I'd guess most USA microbrews are around that price point. In NZ there some beer at that level but not many Montieths is around this much. - like you pointed out most NZ microbrews are around 10nzd per can which would be considered a premium price for US. Bottom line is that NZ has very few middle level beer options. I'm not convinced this is entirely a tax thing since the cost of beers like Bud light in USA and speights in NZ are actually pretty similar.
I see this vid is already 2yrs old, but may i say ... nau mai haere mai, welcome to Aotearoa nz ... hope u are still here and we have not scared u off, for we welcome yr contribution and hope u are happy and acclimatised ... thanks wish u both well

Thanks so much for your comment! You are absolutely right about the mid-price beers, that’s a great insight!
