Just so everyone knows, there’s a bug on console where if you have Starting Armor installed, you can’t respec Lae’zel at Withers. Lost a few hours of progress due to this.
If you combine the party expansion mod with a mod called “sit this one out”, you can make it so that every time combat starts, whichever companions are set to “sit out” are immediately turned invisible and not considered in combat. They don’t even get to take a turn and no enemy will target them. Pairs perfectly! It might only be on nexus though
While the bigger party mod messes with balance there are also additional mods that make it so the extra party members get "benched" when battles start and reappear right after, or at least there were last time I played.
Ooh, may have to look into that when I eventually replay BG3. Being able to see all the banter without breaking the balance would be great, though having an army marching around would make pathfinding and traps hell, so would still have to somewhat limit the traveling party size.
There's also a scalable tactician mod that automatically increases enemy health and actions based on party size (or lets you just statically set some values to what you prefer) and a Deadlier Honour Mode mod that adds some tricky encounters and 60% more enemy health. Lots of ways to balance out the extra party size if you want it.
The no party limit mod changed the whole experience for me, every where you go you have all the characters which opened every possible scenario in each moment in the game, made see more in a single play through
I must admit, I've never played the game without it. I took umbrage to Larian going with their DOS2 party size limit for BG3; BG has always been about larger parties, and was always more fun for it.
Better Target Info, as well as most of the other UI mods by the same author have earned a permanent spot on my BG3 modlist. On the gameplay front, I enjoy the Magus mod (which commits the heresy of porting the Pathfinder 2Ed. class into BG3), as well as the 5E Spells mod for greatly expanding the spell lists available while still staying true to D&D.
I'm using a few at the moment, but my absolute(!) must have is the Bags Bags Bags one from Nexus. It basically gives you a set of bags which will help keep your inventory organised. Things like a Scroll Case, Potion Box, Arrow Quiver etc If you have OCD it makes things a lot easier to keep track of. I didn't know about Better Target Info though and am definitely adding it to the list :)
Most of Caites mods are good but note that some have a load order. Get Better Containers as well so you don't need to scroll as much when opening containers.
The Devil You Gnome is absolutely hilarious, I'm gonna download that right now. I also used a larger party mod for my first playthrough, but instead of doing what I normally do with a Larian game and play it on Easy to get to grips with the system and enjoy the story, then go back for Honour mode once I feel more confident, usually with an extra challenge on top, like "no elemental magic" or "no ranged attacks," I just straight up started on Honour mode. I just knew I was gonna spend so much time playing the game that I didn't want to miss out on character banter and then feel like I have to replay it, get tired, and drop the second one halfway through. Even with an oversized party, some of those encounters are *tough*, especially if you miss a few details like I did, or chose to not do things that give you an advantage like setting the spiders free in the goblin camp. You can see most encounters coming, but there are quite a few surprises that wiped me, especially in the Underdark.
Once I spotted a mod called Mild Mockery which gives you a version of Vicious Mockery but without the damage so you could just throw insults at anyone, anywhere, whenever you like! I didn't try it just yet but it'll absolutely be included the next time there's co-op.
A few days ago, my wife was at the scene where Raphael plays chess with Mol, and we were laughing so hard at the way he, as a gnome, was now barely visible over the game board 😂
The Mod that gives Deities back to Paladins is also a huge favorite of mine. They are holy warriors after all lol. I also enjoy the mod that provides all comp clothes to you after a long rest. Don't have to wait til Act 3 to get everyone out of their default clothes and into something nicer.
aside from the level 20 mod, my favorite mod is the shrek mod, you call upon shrek, he comes and punches your enemies and you feel safe as you rest your head upon shrek's soft bosom
A solid 75 percent of my modlist is just "new gear" and randomizing that gear out into the world. In my opinion one of bg3 biggest strengths and weaknesses was all the gear being in the same place every playthrough. On one hand, great if you have a super specific build in mind. On the other, kinda boring, no real sense of awe at looting. Now I can have the usual set spawns of vanilla with lots of extra interesting stuff from chest\enemies/ect.
If someone is searching for cool mods now, I recommend looking up the Weaponry series by kharneth. They add a bunch of new armour and weapons, armours can be especially highlighted because the author often adds cool visual attachments like Quivers for bows, belts with thieves' tools, or for dwarfs you can have a belt with a bear keg attached to it. I love it when my adventurer character has a bunch of equipment on themself.
After a bit of thought I decided to go with the steam version of BG3 instead of over console and this video just validated that choice 😭 most maybe for a post normal run though
The Druid 2024 mod, I love the new rules for druid. Also, I always wanted that dancer tiefling's armour and I found a mod that changes the default Tav camp clothes to it. Third one, slightly related... College of Dance for Bards!
Mods that I enjoy and would recommend would be the mod that uses a d20 for initiative rolls, the transmog mod that allows you switch the appearance of armor and clothes, the mod that marks books as read, and the mod that add different containers that auto sort/collect items of the same category.
Oh nice I didn't know about the starting armours one, I was talking about needing something like this just the other day. It's such a shame that many of the nice looking armours don't get used since you get them way too late in the game. Gonna do download that right now
I use the starting armor mods on console. Lets me use heavy armor on classes that get it, at the start of the game. Also, lets me get Gith armor on Gith Tav's. Better target info is good too. So glad we are getting mods on console.
I've been playing an origin run where I play as Wyll in a six man party with the other origin characters. The mod to turn initiative into a d20 roll and a mod to slightly increase enemy health helps even the playing field. Especially since the d20 initiative rolls means you will get shared initiative far less often (which otherwise, is extremely strong when running squad deep).
A new favorite of mine is Origin Mirror Unlock, which sets a mirror in your camp that you can use to customize the appearance of your companions. I downloaded it originally just to change Shadowheart's hairstyle (I hate them bangs), but ended up redoing the whole crew.
Fireproof Karlach. It's minor but just makes so much sense given her backstory that it seems like an oversight that it wasn't part of the base game (though I realize making a character completely immune to a fairly common type of damage by default could present balance issues) A couple of weightless mods - the inventory system in this game is a nightmare and having to deal with it AND encumbrance is just too much micromanagement. Polyamory mod: Might as well lean into the whole "horniest AAA game on the market" vibe.
Wow this is so timely, I just started an Honour run two days ago after a 7 month break. Important to make sure you can still get achievements if you haven't 100%ed it yet! I missed out on the Astarion achievement before I realized that.
TBH, I like mods that add to the game. More quests, a nice player home, merchants having enough coin to buy the shit the party hauled along, something fun like the hookshot mod for Skyrim... And: lost content restored. That is golden.
There's a mod that let's anyone pick a deity and so have access to the conversational options thereof. Also the one that makes Gortash into a Halfling; he brings real Lord Farquad energy.
There's so many awesome mods. Mods that update the current classes/subclasses to use the new dnd rules. They greatly improve the classes. There's also new spells/classes/subclasses/races from dnd included now. Especially like the new world tree barbarian from 2024 dnd. Being able to level to 20 is amazing and should have been part of the base game. Also, having the cantrip that creates gold is so helpful, don't need to scavenge anymore.
I love the randomizer mod for items, I think it adds some much needed novelty when exploring. I always see myself bee lining to the op items pretty early and this stops me lol. However I don't think this mod is available on their mod list yet, and is only on vortex. I also love the more races and different classes, some one made a d and d expanded mod and it's amazing. I love bg3 and I love the community around it. It always got me off-guard how much I ended up loving this game, I was a fan of larian but not so much dnd. It's such a breath of fresh air to see how the bg3 community is compared to how negative the video game space is online.
I feel like not accounting for the rest of the party in the final battle is a flaw in the base game. I feel like they should be there when you meet your allies before the very end. Then they could either use them as allies in the battle, or there could be some kind of situation where they need to run off and do something/fight someone to buy you time. It wouldn't have taken much work, I would think, but it would have made more sense than leaving them behind in camp.
My favorite mods simply give me more out of the game. More races, more classes, nore spells, more weapons, more armors, etc. If there is anything genuinely game breaking that one shots bosses, i will avoid them. But more legendary sets, a wider variety of hand crossbow features, and a wider variety of spell options are just a ton of fun to play around with.
So far i prefer the mod that adds 100 rings/necklaces and the 100 capes so you get some more options (and they are fairly balanced compared to some other item mods). Also party limit remover and tactician plus is a must! All fights are harder, some added abilities to enemies and you can bring your party. And of course the lvl 20 mod with a locked level curve (gets you to level 12-15 at the end of the game).
Yeah, when I began the game I started almost obsessively stressing over who I should have in my party for which parts of the map, or who to bring for specific quests, because I didn't want to miss any (Sometimes really quite important) dialogue. This mod was a godsend that single-handedly increased my enjoyment of the game multiple times over. I just cranked the difficulty up a chunk from what I'd usually play on to make up for it, but as someone else said, there are other mods to address the balance to account for having a larger party if folk are concerned about that.
Mort just one minor point of feedback, if you're going to list out mods like this it might also be worth tossing links to their workshop or nexus pages? Just something to consider. Thanks as always!
The classes mods are pretty cool. I'd recommend you trying, specially the dreaded overlord warlock mod (focus on necromancy and summoning) and the succubus class mod. The death knight and the artificer are also pretty cool
I'm waiting until me and my girlfriend finish college to replay in coop with her (her first play though) adding the extended party size so she can experience 3 companions at least, pretty excited
Party size mod along with the polyamory one makes for a lot of entertaining chitchat going on - kind of slows the game though because you keep stopping for the little conversations going on
My personal favourites so far are Mystra's Spells and Ancient Loot Pack or something like that, which completely randomizes the loot you are getting, base game and some new stuff included, which is really cool. Makes you experience a game in a new way, as each playthrough at least in terms of exploration feels almost like the first time. Class and subclass mods are also neet, I like Mind Weaver, Mystic, Dragon Tamer and College Of Dance Bard. I've been working on my own class mod, but it takes a lot of time and effort especially with me not being experienced in programming at all. But hopefully I am onto something really cool and will finish my mod. Customization in terms of camp clothes which doesn't give you extra buffs, but just lets you play with the look of your character is also great.
I want a mod that let you put different types of items in specific backpacks. Example: put all scrolls with the word fire into Gale backpack called "x" This would made inventory manage less of a hassle and more practical

I'm really disappointed Mort, that you didnt memorized all of the enemy resistances. If you wanna a good laugh play the Supralands games, they are awesome.
Nice! Now do one for favorite Skyrim mods 😎👌🏻 (Btw skyrim is rocking rn concurrent number of players in steam comparable with probable game of the year Elden Ring)
I wonder if it's possible to mod the game with party adjustment and increase difficulty to make it more balanced. I assume ultimately you will have to not go overboard with the meta gaming even with making the game much harder. Because Alert with big magic explosion of death will probably trivialize the game anyway xD I also think you could RP who you are taking each day, like maybe gale needs a break because of his condition or maybe Wyll has to go do something on his own to do with his contract or track down a lead on his father etc.
im waiting for the 'randomised loot' mod from D:OS2, that was great. i found BG3 disappointing in the loot department, i never changed my weapon from the everburn blade after the tutorial.
Does the adjustable party limit mod allow you to change party limit outside of camp, and choose who to send back to camp if you reduce the limit? I've always REALLY wanted a way to adjust party members on the fly. Not even for cheesing dungeons purposes. Just so you can run around doing all the dialogue options for all the various companion quests in Baldur's Gate when you first get there without having to watch like 8 loading screens every time you want to swap party members / sections of the city. Even a really janky way to do that would be amazing.
BG3, pathfinder WotR, the witcher 3, I wanted to play these games so much, but the unnecessary amount of demons and disturbing themes of everything in these games are highly unattractive.
I've modded the game with the old third party tools since EA. First thing I did? Changed the spellcasting attribute of Warlock from CHA to INT. As it should be. 🤓
This might be the first time I heard Mort making a joke 😂
And all the funnier for it :D

All I really needed was the hair mods…I’m satisfied

@@jepeman yes, and those enemies with aoe attacks can be pretty deadly to your party

If I told anyone about my favorite mods, i'd go straight to hell. In fact, I still might.
Nsfw 😂💀
stay away from me
If I'm meeting Karlach there, I'm cool with it.
You should tell me about them so I can avoid them, very scared of hell, you see
I don't mind meeting Zariel after hearing it

Check out third person mod, it basically turns exploring way more fun, game really starts to resemble DA Origins. Combat is still top down.
Waiting for custom characters on console, started 3 days ago and can't get enough of it!

Hi Mort, would you consider making a video about P:WOTR mods? If not, what mods do you use there/can you recommend (if any)?
Dice mods are underrated. Love unholy smite and paladins have gods.

Customization in terms of camp clothes which doesn't give you extra buffs, but just lets you play with the look of your character is also great.
I care not at all for cosmetic mods. All the mods I use are gameplay tweaks, mainly to make the game more challenging and/or fun.
It would be awesome to hear about other mods you like
I want a mod that let you put different types of items in specific backpacks.
Example: put all scrolls with the word fire into Gale backpack called "x"
This would made inventory manage less of a hassle and more practical
You'd end up with a million bags on different characters, each with 4 items in them. Have a look at the Bags and Autosort mods to see if there is one that suits you.
I'm really disappointed Mort, that you didnt memorized all of the enemy resistances. If you wanna a good laugh play the Supralands games, they are awesome.

Mod content is doing crazy numbers in you tube. Maybe you can get a second house.
Mostly female face mods since the original ones are rather lackluster as well as a variant winged tiefling mod.
Mystra Spells is good mod too.
What does this mod do?

What's with you and crabs? :)
Did anyone get around to making customizable hirelings yet?
The base game already has that?
Bigger person!!!! FFFWWWWWAAAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Bigger person eh? I see what you did there... You shall repent before the short council in the future trials! 😁❤️
And I thought I was done with BG3... Seems I know what to do once I finish DA Veilguard
first?

We need a very deep difficulty mod to compensate for the bigger party as well as lvl20 mods. The difficulty mods I have tried so far just don't cut it
