One suggestion for plus size ladies. Measure your waist and stomach, sitting down. This ensures that you will be able to sit in your skirt. I found this out years ago when I sewn the skirt and was trying it out.
@@saracarter9290 Because a lot of us are plus size and being that we live in a world where there just isn't squat for plus women, it's nice to see someone with the same build make something that looks good on her, because it gives hope that we can make it too.
At 62 years young, I just completed my first skirt! IT was easy even for me a pretty much non-sewer. Some skills came back from home economics class over 40 years ago! I love your smiling face and clear articulation. i will be sure to sew with you again.
After watching this I just had to subscribe. At last, someone who gets 'visual' sewstrists. Being completely left handed most people don't get you have to go slow so my brain can 'flip' the example. Please keep it going!
I love this tutorial!! I was feeling really insecure watching tutorials from people with smaller measurements because I know I need more yardage and to fold it differently but I wasn't sure how. I feel really confident now!
No ones sees the selvedge, I use it as well. Do the hem before elastic makes so much sense. This style skirt was taught to me as a kid when mum taught me how to sew. Then I learnt how to add to it, like pockets etc. Thanks for sharing
Nice. I was taught to remove the salvage because it shrinks at a different rate to the rest of the fabric. But then again, I was also taught to always pre-shrink the fabric before laying it out to cut. I'd like to see you do a video on buying a thrift shop dress and turning it into a skirt.
You are awesome! I searched UA-cam for a long while trying to find a tutorial that I could understand and I'm so thankful that your's popped up! Can't wait to make these skirts for my daughters-in-love! Thank you!
@@BreaknRemake I'm still trying to get my daughter to sit still long enough for me to get the measurements... I'm so glad I haven't set up cameras in my house, otherwise there would be recorded evidence of a grown woman chasing a miniature hurricane of a child around with a tape measure 😂 lol

This is the best sewing tutorial literally for beginners. All other videos I get super saree when I see them and get discouraged thinking I won’t be able to do. But you explain nicely including the part where you take your own measurements. Thumbs up thumbs up
I am from Finland and we use cm, but i learnt all about inches today because she does explain all so well that i decided to do a skirt following her method. thanks so much. this is the best explain video about easy skirt.
Thank you! I bought some material yesterday to make skirts, but did not want to use a pattern. I just want to get them done today! Thank you, your video is exactly what I needed.
Thank you so much for this fantastic video! I made three of these skirts today, with no prior skirtmaking experience, and your method worked like a dream!
My mom passed away a couple years back and loved to quilt. She has so much fabric and sewing materials left over. I've never been big into sewing, but I figure there's no use in wasteing so much fabric. I'm going to try this out and hope for the best!
Thank you for a straightforward tutorial under 10 minutes! Woohoo! It's getting really hard to find skirts for my daughter, so this tutorial really helped me. I cant wait to go sew!

“I kind of know what I’m doing.” Me, if if ever made UA-cam videos. 😆 Great tutorial! I love that it seems to be very simple and none of the mess of making a circle skirt. (I’ve made a few already and ugh!) I can’t wait to try this! Thanks! P.s. I love your energy and thanks for keeping the instructions consise and not saying “um” or ‘uh” a lot. 😃
I did the skirt and it came out beautiful. I love how you teach simply to understand please show hows to make a dress wth elastic in the middle. Thank you😚
I failed miserably the first attempt. I took my waist measurement which is 35.5 and didn't account for my hips which are way bigger. The fabric is tiny and doesn't go around me 😭
I’m getting ready to make a skirt for my daughter who also has much bigger hips than waist. I was wondering if this would be a problem. Thanks for your comment.
It's not super clear in the video, but she cuts out two pieces that are her waist size. So the final fabric piece is twice as long as the waist measurement, which is how it fits over her hips.
I really loved this tutorial, I've been sewing for a year now and I guess I'm self taught so I never really learnt the basics and the project I'm currently working on calls this type of skirt, so I've been binge watching video's of gathered waist skirts and yours is honestly my favorite because it is just so easy to follow along and it's not too long so if I miss a part, I can easily just find it or just re-watch it. I really like how you explain everything and I hope to watch more of your videos.
Thank you for this! I really want to make my daughter a skirt for Christmas and can't find a pattern I like in her size....but now I'll try this without a pattern! I love how you're a perfectionist with your seams and hems.

This was my first sewing project and the best part is they both turned out wearable! Thanks for the tip on using elastic, I wasn't sure how much I'd need. Great tutorial!
Yay! I'm super glad they turned out well for you. If you want to make a t-shirt pattern I have a tutorial for that too! It's with knit fabric but I find knit friendly to work with if I don't get wild with the pattern drafting.
Thank you so much!! I've watched so many other tutorials, but didn't help. This tutorial is soooo easy to follow, you teach it so well! Thanks again! My skirt came out so nice!🥰🥰

I've been trying to find a simple pattern to make my little sister and me a matching set of skirts this is definitely the one.
Cool tutorial. I'd like to have more skirts and I was looking for something simple, this looks ideal. You could cut one rectangle, but if you cut it as 2 rectangles, then you have 2 side-seams so you can add 2 pockets ;)

Can’t get much easier than this, straight and to the point, excellent!. BTW, I love the flow of the fabric. One think I’ll mention is you’ve not made it clear that the fabric around the middle is doubled, I read thru the description and it mentions a fold, but it’s still not clear that the fold is intended to make the waist measure doubles for movement. Hope this is clear.

Thank you for this awesome video! I have never sewed much more than a straight line for a curtain or something and have always wanted to make my own clothes but can't read patterns. I'm a bit nervous but I MUST give this a try. I have wanted to sew since I was a kid and was never able to take home ec in high school so fast forward, I am now 59 and have the fabric for a skirt but never took the plunge, so thank thank thank you for these instructions. I plan on watching over and over before I cut my fabric, which just like in your video is not enough so I have to now hope I don't mess up lol. Fold seam, cut straigt edge (two pieces), seam these two pieces than start the process...I think that's what you are describing.... Can you tell I am soooooo soooooo nervous. Thank you again.
Too cute as well as easy - good instructions ... The selvedge is the strongest part of the fabric - it provides for a clean finish as it does not ravel. Use it whenever possible! Most importantly w/fabrics that unravel easily (eg - chiffon, georgette, gauze, etc)
This simply great rectangular skirt will maintain a bottom border print where the selvedge is w/out cutting into it ruining the design making it easy for a quick rolled or flat hem ... You might also want to use Knox gelatin as a stabilizer for cutting & sewing chiffon, georgette, gauze, etc (crinkle in gauze should bounce back after gelatin is washed out). Check the internet tutorials for measuring gelatin to water as a stabilizer . Word of caution - do not hot iron fabric w/steam after stabilizing it, the gelatin will melt making it sticky. Roll it in a large like absorbent beach towel to get out as many wrinkles as possible, then hang dry where you can also smooth out the fabric ... Have fun!
Quick and so easy. Been eyeing that border print - now I'm gonna do it.... " I kinda know what I'm doing ".......... makes me feel better about not knowing what I'm doing AT ALL.
