    Sad to think that two years ago, they were looking at repairing or replacing it and now it is in danger of collapse… Where does the responsibility live for all the damage that this break will cause?

      Responsibility? For what being gullible enough to buy property that has the potential to flood if a dam fails?that's on the homeowner not being very wise about purchasing real estate,most people know better than to buy land in a potential flood plain,if you don't then that is pretty funny,responible😂😂

    It’s fascinating that the Blue Earth County board was looking at this so recently. Ultimately, Old Man River seems to have made the decision for them.

    From what I see, the dam didn't fail, the design did. Even if the dam had been renovated, the problem was the obstruction of the dead trees. Unless this issue would have been addressed, the washout was going to occur eventually. Now the dam MUST be removed to get the river back to it's normal course.

      It should, without a doubt, be replaced. What with our headlong rush to shut down every power generating station we have we must use every single alternative source we have and not damming this river and using it for hydro power is criminally stupid. This stupidity will be shown when we’re required to permanently shut down our air conditioning because we lack power. All that time and money and brainpower spent in lengthening our lifespan just thrown away.

    As a former resident of the house viewed to the far right of the frame at 0:10 of this video, I believe the newly drained land should first be offered for sale to the residents of this tiny peninsula. Lots of land will be reclaimed. It is only right it be owned by those who've watched over it for the past 100 years.

    • @marumiyuhime

    • @gtafan2006
      @gtafan2006 3 місяці тому

      and the fact that it still stands is whats causing further bank erosion as the dam is now acting as a water flow diversion shoving all the water around forcing the river to make itself a new course.. the only way to stop further bank erosion is having a demolition company come in and either use explosives or heavy machinery to remove the dam.. all the worry about the sediment dispersion and its all down in a lake on the mississippi by now.

  • @joeskis

    Those cost estimates are ridiculous. Just get them rock quarry guys to come down and they'll drill enough dynamite holes to make quick work of it. (Of course it's a different story now)

    $15M to repair and hand the problem off to younger generation/s or $82M to remove. Since the revenue/profit from hydro power would be minimal as video said the right thing to do is remove it.

    I say remove the dam,in the long run, no maintenance and could be be a haven for recreation and the residence wouldnt have to worry about future problems with debris buildup and silt.even if repaired,it wouldnt generate that much power that was needed years ago..three modern wind turbins can gernerate as much power has the dam could achieve..

    It's more important than ever that we send money to Ukraine
    ~ Joe Biden

    • @james_robnett
      @james_robnett 3 місяці тому

      Wrong. I don't care whether you're conservative or progressive, gay, straight whatever but the fact is the conservative arm of the Republican party has shot down any and all funding for infrastructure for the past 16 years. Obama, Trump, Biden all had projects blocked or voted against. The president can't just spend money out of one pot for another, the budget is set by Congress. Ukraine funding comes out of a pot for foreign aid, infrastructure funding comes out of a different pot.
      So if you want to make cheap points regardless of facts, carry on, if you actually care about infrastructure talk to your Rep and Senator and tell them to get their head out of their ass. As it is Biden managed to get a large bipartisan bill passed that would help shore up bridges and dams but it will take many years/decades to go through them all.
      For instance Rep. Pete Stauber from Minnesota voted against it claiming the bill would pave "a destructive and irreversible path towards socialism.", of course the next year while campaigning he talked up the bill claiming it would help Minnesota out. Shrug.

      The county is at fault. They waited too long. Not senile Joe. So how much of Europe are we going to let Putin take. 30 years in the military my first year was living in a tent in Saudi. Because we chose to support Iraq. We gave are word that if Ukraine gave up nukes we would protect them. Sending them weapons instead of our military is way better!
