  • 1st visit to Guildford in Surrey on the North Downs Line, Portsmouth Direct Line as well as Ascot to Guildford Line and New Guildford Line.
Featuring services from South Western Railway and Great Western Railway
Guildford first opened by the former London & South Western Railway in May 1845 from Woking now as part of the Portsmouth Direct Line
Other lines including the Reading, Guildford and Reigate Railway opened 4 years later in July 1849 which at the time was operated by the former South Eastern Railway, LSWR services via Farnham joined 3 months in October 1849.
Enlargement of the station occurred in 1860 with other lines later joining including the New Guildford Lines via Epsom and Cobham opening in February 1885
The former Cranleigh Line which opened in October 1865 opened by the former London & South Coast Railway which use to join up at Christ's Hospital with the Arun Valley Line and ran down to Horsham however was closed by Beeching in June 1965.
Guildford town centre is served by two stations with Guildford being the main hub whilst the other is the first stop from Guildford on the New Guildford Line at London Road (Guildford)
Today the station has a mixture of services served by South Western Railway and Great Western Railway
South Western Railway operate a mixture of half hourly fast services to and from London Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour alternating with stopping Portsmouth & Southsea Services which the fast services overtake at Haslemere.
Platform 6 is the terminus for hourly services to and from Farnham and Ascot although the latter nowadays terminate at Aldershot.
Platforms 1, 2 & 3 are occupied by terminating services via the New Guildford Line with Platforms 1 & 2 served by those via Epsom which diverge from the SWML at Raynes Park then follow the course of Sutton and Mole Valley Lines until after Leatherhead and then joining up at Effingham Junction whilst services mostly via Platform 3 are served by those the via Cobham & Stoke d'Abernon which diverge after Surbiton.
At the time of filming the Class 455s days in service were numbered and in time are due to be replaced by Class 701 Arterios
Great Western Railway mostly use Platforms 4 and 8 for their services to and from Reading via the North Downs Line to Gatwick Airport which until recent times use to be half hourly with a stopping services use to terminate at Redhill and the faster service running to Gatwick Airport however due to the recent surge in demand after the COVID19 Pandemic now all GWR services are half hourly to Gatwick Airport
Their trains provided nowadays by Class 165 Turbos which are retained at Reading Traincare Depot to the West of Reading station however their future is uncertain and likely due to be replaced from around 2030 onwards by new modern BEMUs which is short for Battery Electric Multiple Units.
