Zero two wasn´t even piloting. Hiro was doing it alone, he just didnt realize till the end :C

That's not true hiro merged with zerotwo. On earth zero two's body broke discarded, she abandoned her body and became the apus with hiro.
When I realized this I was very sad because it was clear that her physical form died there, the fact that her mind became strelitzia is too sad.

Bogdan Simon Strelitzia Apus was originally a creation of the Klaxo-sapiens, called Star Entity. Considering that the name Apus is the star equivalent of Strelitzia, I find it very fitting considering that it was built to fight aliens

For anyone wondering, their bodies aren't actually being torn apart, but they feel the pain the franxx go through, which is why they are screaming.

Personally I think that if this was the end of the season and there was another one fully explaining the VIRM and them preparing to destroy them, it would suck much less than it did.
Spoilers down below:
One thing that bugged me the most amongst numerous things about the real ending was that VIRM wasn't destroyed, the whole ending would be better if they had been. It wouldn't fix it (not by a long shot), but it would definitely help and would be more satisfying.
I m sure VIRM got destroyed 1 minute after final because big explosions effects energy too
I actually wish the series had ended here instead of how it actually ended. It would have been a lot more satisfactory in my opinion and good for a cliffhanger for a season 2 as well because right now, no one knows if there will ever be a season 2 or not.
The chances of there ever being a second season to this are very, very slim.

Unfortunately, if there’s any chance at all for a S2, we probably won’t get much considering how the main threat is gone and a majority (if not all) of the main characters are dead (or reincarnated maybe).

I think Apus is actually the correct translation, since it's a constellation representing a bird of paradise, which makes more sense than apath (apathy?) in the show's context

Robofortress I'll tell you, if you're really confused. No one else has subbed this officially but crunchyroll. When they first released episodes 20 and 21, they mistranslated it as Apath (means nothing) instead of Apus (bird of paradise constellation, like Strilezia = BoP flower). Like, two days after they released 20, they fixed their subs of 20 and 21.
But every site that steals the episodes from Crunchyroll, like KissAnime or whatever, wouldn't bother to update the episode and just stick with the rip they got when the episode first released.
Trust me, the official name is Apus. Anywhere that says differently just hasn't updated yet.
