  • Getting my trusty drone airborne above Hamilton, ON before rain showers moved into the area, we get a glimpse into the daily switching operations at railcar manufacturer National Steel Car as a switching crew moves brand new railcars around the plant with one of their ex-Korail EMD SW1001 switchers, while another sits cold and dark next to the company's remaining GE center cab!

    Really impressed with how clean, tidy and fresh looking this facility is. Especially considering it is is steel rail car manufacturing facility.

    Matty, your vids are awesome inspiration for aspiring model railroaders. You do an incredible job capturing the otherwise "secretive" day-to-day operations of these facilities. Keep up the great work!

    Excellent video Matt. This is a nice look at the NSC plant and the switching operations here. One of my favorite places in Hamilton's industrial sector. That's a cool switcher too. The drone gives us a rare look inside this place. Steeltown 👍🏻

    Is everything so neat and clean in Canada? No litter, no bums, no rusted-out cars...Amazing!

      lol! Hamilton is a dump. Just that facility is clean. Go down one of the main drags and you’ll get your fill of meth heads.

    New shiny freight cars would last about five minutes in California before being covered with graffiti!!!

    Great video and also great catch! 8704 and other NSC sw1001s always caught my eye, it’s those ambulance style flashing leds.

      @@CentralVirginiaRailProductions Thanks a lot! As much as I hated how they got rid of the center cabs before I had a chance to film them, these SW1001s certainly make up for that! And I agree, those LEDs are awesome!

    Great drone video. That's a busy place. Also very nice to see freight cars not all covered with graffiti. Wonder how long that will last once they are out on the road.

      That guy was looking pretty awkward the whole time I had my drone in the sky, but that move took the cake for sure. Those switchers do look good in that paint!

      I have that model as well and I find that it is a very good one for urban areas such in Hamilton's industrial core. Are you familiar with Canada's National Research Council interactive map for drone pilots ? If not I think that it will be a big help for identifying restricted areas. Let me know if you would like the link to it. James.

    What’s the purpose of the red and blue lights on the locomotive?

    • @mattygunn693
      @mattygunn693  Місяць тому +3

      They're added safety and warning measures to let people know the train's moving.
