Thank you for asking him great questions about the care and expense. I love how he focuses on cage security and responsibility as a keeper. I hope it makes a potential keeper really think and assess if they can keep one.
I heard Ron on one of the reptile podcast’s and it was awesome to hear all the stuff he’d bred over the years. Thanks for visiting with him Dave! Rattle on! 🤘🏼
lol, i vaguely recall he was wearing a neurosis shirt last time? funnily I only just got into them, first band i've ordered a t-shit of before I'd even finished listeing to the album, but how can you not like the double serpent motif from through silver in blood.
Thanks for this vid! My second White Throat/Cape Monitor (my first CB) came from Ron way back in the '90's. I've always been a big fan of all that he does.
I guess it would be too cold here in Augusta Ga to have outside enclosures but Bert Langerdorf in Montavalo Al had outside enclosers for Jacksons and Argintine Tegus.
Spencer's Monitors are a dream species for me (so are Perenties and Bells Phase Lace Monitors!) I love everything Australian! from Bearded Dragons to Thorny Devils, to Freshwater Crocodiles!
That is soo rad!! It muust be such an amazing experience with working with these dudes!! Btw, you should visit garden state tortoise in new Jersey. The place has become absolutely rad after the aquascape ecosystem and the new nature room. Also visit Greg's turtle Haven.
Bells phase Lace Monitors are the most beautiful of ALL monitors. I loved the Lacy that was relaxing with her front legs just dangling over the sides. So cool!!🦎❤️🦎
Hi Dav always love your Vlogs but specially when your showcasing some of our beautiful reptiles from down under. Where I live the Lacies are locals. They are beautiful lizards. Cheers mate from down under 🦘🦘🦎
Yo Dav! I've been following your content for a couple years now... needless to say, u know your sh!t. You're full of knowledge, wisdom, awareness, & "hands on" involvement within the Reptile Community... You & ya boy Ron Spencer share a favorite type of monitor lizard... tell me, why are lace monitors your favorite?? ;)
Always nice to see cool monitors! The pet shop I got to has a black dragon and nile monitor (NFS). One thing I notice about monitor people is I don't really see them working with Savannahs. It is just because (sadly) they're available so cheaply as imports? Are they just considered a less interesting species for larger lizards? It seems like NERD stopped working with them because he didn't find them as interesting as water monitors.
I've always been a snake guy but absolutely love my savannah monitor. Got him as a baby and he's gonna turn 8 this year. Was a little flighty and feisty when I got him but once we built a mutual trust of each other he's been such a awesome pet. They really are smart, when I put some new decor or whatever in his enclosure can see in his eyes that he's thinking and processing as he flicks his tongue to taste Does make me nervous sometimes when I'm changing his heat or uvb bulb and he tastes my arm for an extended period of time because monitors love to eat but he's never even attempted to bite me
What led to the use of the term "monitor" for these lizards? I'm reading that it has to do with standing on their hind legs like meerkats to monitor their surroundings, but I can't imagine that's the case for the bigger species, like Komodos and water monitors.
I had a Spencer earlier this year, poor fella died though. Remember You need fairly high temp for these guys as they live in arrid areas where it gets to 45°c or 130°f
They are definitely expensive but probably not at the top. Ty park has some perenties. Bryan at bhb has one of the only albino niles. Nerd sells t- waters for 15/25k.
Ik exactly the feeling of a Lacey bite dav, I caught a 5foot one in me back yard and he absolutely nailed my hand, ended up degloving my thumb hahahah 😂
Bells lace or even a lace is my dream animal. Pretty much accepted I'm never going to get short of winning the lotto (that I don't play so we can count that out). I live where I'd have to build a indoor room because of the winters. Gosh they are a dream though. Maybe someday.. I'll have to get rid of my husband first so he can't tell me no.
I disagree about the Ringed Pythons. They trade in that neon orange for a more muted brown + stunning iridescence. They aren't as vibrant as a Sunbeam, but they're a good bit bigger without becoming too big and ornery like a White Lip.
20k for a monitor lizard.... obviously that's 20k in USD...I dunno the conversion in to GBP but I'm guessing in the 12-13k range....that's more than I earn a year...lol...I'm an out & out beardie fan, I wouldn't dare incur the wrath of.....MOLLYZILLA (my rather large beardie) by bringing another lizard into the lair (what I call home) she'd open my face with her claws...lol
@4:20 !! w0w !! 20K a pop??? Price similar to an Exotic Micro Bully or Frenchie!! I need to get down w/ tha program! ...such a vicious monitor!!! RIP to that chic, LMFAO!!
Which is a great sign if a female that's never been paired with a male before randomly lay eggs it shows you're doing something right Because it's healthy enough to just produce the eggs on it own and lay them
Unfortunately as popular as they may be. A lot of people are simply not cut out for them. They’re not leopard geckos and they’re not ball pythons. I just read today how someone had a 15 week old ackie die of kidney failure and clogged urates. That equates to dehydration straight up. The owner said this was her first reptile. Y’all need practice before fucking with these animals. They’re complex. They’re not cut out for your snake racks and they’re not cut out for your beef jerky machines either. Seriously stop killing animals due to ignorance.
These ones aren't handled that much. The more time you spend handling the friendlier they get. They're a lot like dogs, be nice and spend time with them, they're soppy lumps - be kind but leave them alone and they're just natural - treat them unkindly or be silly and you'll regret it
Look at Kamp Kenan's videos for example. His huge water monitor Slinky is a real puppy, very friendly and he trusts him so much he let him smell/taste his bloody hand after he got bitten by a tiny monitor and Slinky knows perfectly well that was his hand with blood on it, not food.
Thank you for asking him great questions about the care and expense. I love how he focuses on cage security and responsibility as a keeper. I hope it makes a potential keeper really think and assess if they can keep one.

He's a super cranky and a totally fierce dragon, but the Spencer's chubby little back legs dangling down at the 5:25 mark were just too cute. lol

I love how all goannas have that puffy throat. To see it on a large perenti is crazy lol
Please do a re visit to see how big and how amazing thay are looking a year later :)
love Black throats. their heads remind me of tapir.
Well hello from Wales again dav

Saw the Spencer’s monitor in the thumbnail and immediately clicked
Awesome! Next time, Crutchfield. 😎
This was awesome!!!
Every time I die! Great shirt
Such amazing animals!!!
Monitor Lizards are awesome I like the Ackie Monitors
Amazingly beautiful Monitors
I’d love to visit Ron’s place
What are the dimensions of the enclosures
Hope you get to see Tom Crutchfield and Ty Park while you're in Florida

Does anybody out there in the US work with or breed Perentie monitors?
If I were a younger man.......
That would be quite the dream.
Fascinating.
Amazing animals.
Is anybody state-side working with Perentie?
Hopefully I will eventually have a bunch of monitors :)
Bro do you have agamid afghanistan lizard?? Please show some review it to us they like seem taliban lizard
Great if a massive storm happens we going to have monitors in Florida

Hi. Dav
Hi Ron
Leather hands 😉
One male and three females. Sounds like the beginning of a new sublime song.😂
Still just want a tree monitor
Rattle on!!!!
20k for a Spencer haha i live in Australia only payd 700aud (520usd) for mine
Cute monitors but not a pet for everyone.👍
I dont like the boxes for enclosures. The enclosures just don't look like optimal housing for some of the monitors.
What monitor lizard new people trying to get a lizard.

Check my monitors out my eggs just hatched and have 30 babies rite now
Get em hotter an feed em almost every day get some size on em and you will get big clutch’s every year
