    This is one of the shortest ice seasons I've seen in many years.

      Thanks Nathan! More consistent and seasonal weather would be nice but I think this winter has been interesting for sure.

    This weather has played heck on the ice ,it seems sloppy in the video. Glad to see you got some crappies,that had to be a fun trip. Great fish train video.

      The shoreline ice was bad but decent thickness once you get away from shore.

    This video reminds of the glory days of pool 13, specifically Spring Lake circa 1991. I'd make the mile walk out to the deep hole after school got out. Equipment was very basic - hand auger - no sonar units - and a pole with a split shot and a gold number#2 hook and a bucket of minnows. Filling a Hefty garbage sack was considered a normal day. We weren't too bright back then with overharvest, but I guess it didn't really matter. A much worse problem(sedimentation) would rear its ugly head in the coming years. I just glad I got to experience the great fishing and the memories that came along with it.

      It's too bad that those great fishing opportunities no longer exist. You got to experience it but some will never know what it once was.

      It was fast action. I cut out all the bluegill and perch catches to get the video down to a reasonable length.

    Enjoyed as always. Ive heard of fish just underr the ice but never experienced it. I fish pool 13 for about15 years now. Ive heard the story Rocket9392 told from several people, including a lot of old timers. Ive had some good days but not like 91 era. Im jealous of the water you have up there Lance, im not that experienced, i dont know of any backwaters over 7' or 8'.
    Sunshine and 46* now, walleyes have been cauhht in soft water yesterday and today. Time to get that gear rigged. TIGHT LINES

      I noticed it's almost impossible to have an ice fishing conversation around here without it reverting back to the good old days. The deep hole at Spring Lake was 18 feet deep the first time i fished it. I haven't gone back to it in almost 5 years - it was only 7 feet deep- spent the better part of a day out there for 1 white bass.

    • @chucklutter7399

      I've fished the hole by the dyke a couple times, I'm thinking 6' was the deepest I found. Walleye are feeding on the Rock. TIGHT LINES

      Unfortunately I’m seeing spots up on 5,6 and 7 starting to fill in as well. There is still excellent fishing to be experienced but Im afraid that it won’t last forever.

    Amazing bite. I think that I saw your friend catch only a single bluegill. In many scenes he was walking away. Did he catch some crappies too? If not, what was the difference that allowed you to have so much action? Thanks for sharing!

    • @AnglerX
      @AnglerX  8 місяців тому

      My friend Chris caught a bunch as well. He was chasing flags and tip downs for perch. I did find that one hot hole that produced a bunch of crappie in short order.

    Early ice and late ice were 7 days apart. Can’t believe it. Went ice fishing here in Iowa this Tuesday and the ice was 7”, four of slop and about 3.5” of good stuff under it. Where I was standing, my boots were sinking in. Doubt I’m gonna make it out anymore, went and threw some jigs below a local dam last night. Be safe out there!

    What a great video Lance. Lots of fish that day. What did you have on yhe tipup next to you? I assume a minnow, but suprised it never went off with all the fish you pulled up right next to it. Stay safe and good luck.

    • @AnglerX
      @AnglerX  8 місяців тому

      Thank you! There was a larger walleye style minnow on the tip-up. My buddy was curious if we would get a crappie to bite it. Never had any takers.
