I will say this... Pay attention to the church's symbol and necklace
Normally demihumans age like humans do. However if a young demihuman gains to many levels too quickly their bodies will think they are in a hazardous environment and they will undergo force maturation as a survival mechanism. This was hinted at in the light novel by Raphtalia contently getting hungry, but the anime skipped over that. It seems it common enough knowledge that the blacksmith didn't think much of it beyond pity of what she was going through.

@@ji6670 You're welcome. This doesn't come up in season 1, but there is also an exception to that rule. Hakuko (white tiger) don't have force maturation, ageing normally no matter what their level, but they do have higher level caps. I'm not sure when the anime will get to them.

@@ji6670 Hard to say. It seems to largely skipped over after Raphtalia, with one race of demihumans not being effected by it all and a bunch of others I'm unsure if they have been rapidly aging. The manga hasn't gotten that far and the light novel rarely shows any pictures of them. That said forced maturation is part of another character's back story and shapes who she is even in her adult life.
Actually, the forced maturation wasn't skipped in the anime. It was lightly explained later in the anime. though they didn't go into deep detail.

This man doesnt have a weapon yet has higher damage then everyone even his "sword".
The way Raphtalia instantly got mad about the soldiers possibly hurting Naofumi is why I love her so much, she wasn’t having none of that.

@@titi3736 Same like in slime isekai, except shield hero was still pretty good till the end - no game braking shit and pretty much after first episodes almost no sakuga moments, but certainly enjoyable, Slime on the other hand after orc lord was almost chore to watch and animation was on lvl of opm s2, but without even that one clean fight :/

I actually feel for the one guard leader (the one who stayed, not the other one). He's under a fairly unpleasant guy, and had to make a choice between following orders, or helping a convicted rapist protect the town. I also applaud him for taking the more honorable road.
And, the other 3 heros did save the town, in a way. Kill boss = wave ends.
Also, if you want to see a light hearted shield hero, recommend Bofuri.

Take your time. This anime is worth waiting for. I watched it weekly, then read the manga, and a lot of the light novel, since I loved it so much.

I just watch all of this show yesterday, and it moved me, inspired me, and made me fucking cry. Ya'll make some good, funny, passionate reactions.

Like i said from the previous episode. Demi humans appearance change based to their level. So raphtalia level up her appearance change until she reached peak physical form (appearance wise)

That dog would be erberus? I think? But Cerberus has a brother who is a two headed "dog" that gaurded a herd of divine cattle that Hercules stole in one of his Twelve Labors. And hilariously they are more than dogs, they leave it out in modern retalling because it's a bit much, but they have snakes for manes and their tails are also snakes.

Lol about the age thing, I thought it was related to something like how animals age differently than humans. I mean just look at dogs and cats, they’re usually teenagers or adults within a couple of months. Humans do not age like that lol. And as for why he keeps referring to her as a child and stuff, I think it’s like when you grow up with someone and one day you look at them and realize just how much they’ve grown. Like my cousins are in high school now and I still picture them as kids who are 10 years old. Idk why my brain doesn’t picture them as 17 year olds. I can’t help but see them as the sweet little kids I grew up with.
