A couple things about filolials (Filo's species): they have the instinctual urge to pull carts and do work. Wild ones will actually steal carts from people and hitch themselves up to them.

One thing I love about this show is that I get to see y'all go through the same emotions I went through when watching it. Plus, Lupa be having me weak yo 😂 😂 😂
Just to be clear, Filo was a flightless filolial. They have the market value of 50 sliver, half of what the guy sold her egg for. Basically she was the booby prize meant to recoup the cost of the knight dragon egg mixed in there. Like with any gotcha game the idea is to get people to keep spending money and most of the time getting cheep prizes while trying to get the grand prize. It's effectively a loot box. That said, flightless filolials don't normally get that big and they don't normally turn into little girls.
They showed up before in the LN, with Naofumi outright calling them chocobos. Rumor has it they were created by the heroes of the past, who might have been going for a Final Fantasy reference.
To be honest Moyotasu really needed to cheat to win. As a reverse of their last fight, he was ill suited to winning this one. Normally a knight dragon would be faster then a common filolial, but Filo was too fast for the poor dragon to keep up with.
The dragon also wasn’t Spear Simp’s dragon, just a dragon that was brought with them. Therefore there was no bond as there is with filo and Naofumi.
@@ejpennine7479 That's true, but the anime also skimmed over the monster user shields Naofumi got from feeding it Filo's egg shell fragments and feathers. Also Myne abandoned the poor guy after losing the race, leaving him at the village.

@@06truongminhat15 I haven't read WN, but I've heard some light spoilers about what you are referring to and my main question is this - are we sure that manga AND especially anime are going to stay true to original material and adapt those moments fully? Because the picture I'm seeing (and hear from other people who have read the WN) is this: Web Novel - quite edgy, manga - still pretty edgy, but has some slight changes, anime - not so edgy and omits some things that help to draw Naofumi not as edgy as he originally is in WN. I can already see all the normies in the West going apeshit if the anime actually adapts the story as it is from WN (regarding to what you're referring about what happens to Bitchie) because that was exactly what happened a couple of years ago, I think you know what I'm referring to. I guess it all comes down to whether the producers care about the Western audience (which in my opinion they essentially do, if they indeed decided to water down Naofumi's edginess in the anime).

If it's not clear, Moyotasu is the king's favorite. He gets the biggest reward, the best gear, even a knight dragon. In the light novel Ren muttered something under his breath after getting his smaller reward. You might have also noticed that despite clearly not liking him, the king gave Naofumi the largest starting funds on the first day.
That was because no one except Bitch joined his party.

@@RichardStrong86 No he didn't. He doesn't know his daughter as well as he thinks he does. However he has spoiled her since she was a child. In all likely hood he just gives the most support to which ever hero his daughter is traveling with. In the past he would work with people he didn't like.
@@navifairy6287 The king HATES the shield hero (the past one and this one) because of their association with demi-humans and the conflict which caused his family's death. His daughter learned all of that from him. There was never a single chance he was ever willing to give him a fair shot. He wanted to ruin him from the start.

While it is true that the king hated the shield hero long before meeting Naofumi he has been willing to work with people he hated in the past, according to his wife. I get the feeling that if Myne had stuck with Naofumi the king would of supported him for his daughter's sake. However false accusation just pushed him over the edge.
I also didn't get the feeling Myne had any particular hate for the shield hero, rather she is just a bad person and saw him as an easy mark. In the light novel we also see she doesn't much care for Moyotasu anyway, but stays with him because it's convenient. From how I see it Myne only cares about her own self benefit and will screw over anyone to get what she wants. The irony is she would of been better off being Naofumi's girlfriend for her long term goals.
You guys missed some important info on slave crests as well. The Shield is the only weapon class that has a passive skill that gives exp boost and stat boost to allies bound by the slave pact, it's beneficial to both Naofumi and Raphtalia that the crest remains in her body.
In the manga, Raphtalia promised to get the slave crest again to prove that he could trust her... that happened when she was trying to bring him back from the darkness after the duel. That promise was what finally got Naofumi to realize that she was someone he could totally trust. The ultimate sign of trust. Basically the only way to bring him back from the brink since he was so lost in the "everyone keeps betraying me" mindset after everything that happened.

Raphtalia is a tanuki, an animal not well known outside of Japan. When they translate it it normally comes out as raccoon dog or raccoon.
Raphtalia is half raccoondog and half raccoon.

Raphtalia is more than likely based on a Tanuki or Raccoon Dog. If you remember what Mario looks like in his Tanuki suit and you take a look at Raphtalias ears and tail it adds up. Although yeah, understandably not everybody would see the resemblance immediately.

It may seem like a shock, but the Slave Crest is actually more of a buff than a Curse.
The rules of the Crest can be used to the team's advantage, given the situation.
For example, you can literally command the slave on certain "Clutch Move" situations where the slave might not be able to manage on his/her own.
There's a reason Filo was able to do those things. All in good time.

This slipped my mind before as I hadn't through of it for a while. Raphtalia is of mixed heritage. The slave merchant seems to only be that familiar with her mother's people, so he called her half racoon. Tanuki makes up the other half, which is better known in Japan then in the US. He has no idea what he really had or how little he sold her for by comparison. Even now he was thinking to small.

Don’t forget all 4 heroes saved the village. 3 stopped the wave, while Naofumi ran interference defending incoming attacks. However, the other 3 didn’t seem to consider the collateral damage of fighting the wave. It’s true that had Naofumi not defended the village, there would have been no village left after the attacks on it were stopped.

Raphtalia is actually a *racoon dog* demi human. Racoon dogs (or Tanukis) look quite similar to racoons but are not closley related and live in japan, unlike racoons. They belong indeed to the fox family btw.

Raphtalia is actually supposed to be a tanuki or a raccoon dog, which I'm not sure if they are more closely related to dogs or raccoons, but I do know they are not the same thing as raccoons.
Tanuki (tanooki, seen it spelt both ways) is a raccoon dog its an animal thats in Japan and is common in games like tom nook from animal crossing or super mario’s tanooki costume
