That's helpful information. Now I can upgrade the protein in these low protein feed, thanks a million. I just started quail and heard how low protein feed and impact the quality of egg production birds health. Thumbs up! Cheers!

On one of the other quail channels they recommend crushing dry cat or dog food (the cat food has higher protein content) but they don't say what portion.

I Use ground mealworks mixed with cheap chick crumbs the meal worms are more sustainable and are around 53% protein
Insect protein will be used more in the future anyway as they are produced with less impact to the environment.

I believe its stuff they sell on ebay uk at 25kg a bag, just type in fish meal, ignore the carp pellets and look for the powder, its what is normally used to make sinking carp pellets to increase the protien content in the pellets, make sure you get the pure stuff and not the carp pellets, the pure stuff like he said is labelled in the description as 60% protien, so to every 1kg of say 17% protien chicken layers pellets, add 200g of fish meal to it and it should add 12% more protien, bringing upto a combined 29% total, which would be perfect, i dont know how healthy it would be but i think ill give it ago.

@@steveulliott4106 The stuff thats about £60 for 25kg seems expensive or does it last a long time.

well if your using 200g to every 1kg of layers pellets you can make up 150kg (150,000g) of around 29% protien rich food, that works out at 40p for fish meal per 1kg of bird feed, thats not bad when you consider each bird eats about 20-25g of food a day. for 5 quails every week and a half i pay 40p for the extra protien, then about the same for the layers pellets, so say 80p to £1.00 in total to feed my birds per week and a half, plus a bit extra for lettice. its over 2/3rds cheaper than mealworms at £1.50 a tub.

Okay, I can't do fish meal in the USA, they have toxins in them. So my alternative is solider fly larva and mealworms. Just fyi. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
