Oh my gosh, I love that! I'm so happy that I was able to give some insight about this lens!! It is really an incredible item - so honored to have it as part of my collection now!!
I've found one of the biggest benefits of the Nikon Z system is the image stabilization. It's the best I've ever used. Sport mode VR is great when both you and the subject are moving. It gives a very smooth view through the viewfinder (or the rear screen), and allows you to get so many more sharp shots compared to similar setups with DSLRs. I use it with a monopod to shoot triathlons and wildlife, and my hit rate is so much higher with this system. Best of luck to you, and thanks for your sharing your experience. Enjoy the new lens!!
(Apologies for the delayed response! Getting back into the swing of UA-cam!!) 📸Thank you so much for watching the video and commenting! I definitely understand the VR helping especially when it comes to all the movement that comes with tracking running & animals!! That sounds so much more difficult than what I'm shooting!! hahah Love hearing how other Nikon users love and use their gear - thank you again for your comment!!
Hy Boston, thanks for your enthusiastic video. I am also a Nikon fan (started with FM2). I own a Z180-600 and use it for sport photography. Beside of their internal Zoom I love the incredible image stabilisation. Ok. It’s not a lightweight, but with the incredible image stabilisation you can (with some training) use it down to 1/30 handheld. (I dont like monopods, and you get the vibrations of the floor) For concert photography I love the much better light measuring of the Z (over the D4), specially with fast changing light situations on concerts. - with the Z6 II you have the best to get good pictures with high iso. Looking forward for more concert pictures.. ;-)
(Apologies for the delayed response! Getting back into the swing of UA-cam!!) 📸✨ Thank you for watching and commenting!! Love hearing from other Nikon users!! I love hearing about the stabilization! I'm gonna have to look into it more and see what settings are for my camera and testing those more! I'd be happy to give up my monopod hahaha
Nice shots! It may be too much trouble to carry more gear but we used to use 2 stools for event video . One to stand on and one only for the camera tripod/monopod, this really helped reduce any camera shake caused by operator.
(Apologies for the delayed response! Getting back into the swing of UA-cam!!) 📸✨ Always love seeing you pop up on my feed & comments!! Thanks for the tip!! Two stools sounds like such a hassle, but I'll try it and see if it helps!!
Nikon does make the best glass IMO, especially for the Z line. I currently own a Tamron 150-600 G2, currently using on a Z6ii and Z7ii (via the FTZii). I also used to use that lens on a D7200 and got some fantastic photos with that combo. I will someday get the Nikon 180-600 Z it does look like a fantastic lens for bird photography in my case. BTW there are pros and cons with an internal zooming/focusing lens. Pros - lens is always the same length, better balancing on a tripod/gimbal, less chance of dirt or moisture getting inside the lens. Cons - front group of the lens is always at the longest focal length - the zoom group pulls back to the shorter focal lengths internally. What I like about my Tammy is that at 150 mm it can easily fit in my bag. But, I suspect IQ will be much better with the Nikon lens on a Z camera. Side note - I have a 2003 vintage F lens 70-200 f/2.8 ED VR - it's a beast too (and the type of lens for "concerts", as they say) - almost as heavy as the 150-600! It too is internal focusing/zooming so it's always the same length, but it takes up a lot of room in my bag - but hey f/2.8 at 200mm! Takes great pics on the Z6ii/Z7ii. Looking forward to your unboxing.
(Apologies for the delayed response! Getting back into the swing of UA-cam!!) 📸✨ Thank you so much for your comment! I appreciate you watching and supporting this video. There are always pros and cons with lenses and brands, but I gotta say, I love this lens so much - wouldn't trade it for the world!! I agree with you that Nikon makes the best glass, and I do see that Nikon interacts much better with their own lenses, so I stick to all native gear personally. But I hope you love the gear that you have! If a lens works for you, it's the perfect lens!! Thank you so much again. I appreciate it!!
I have one now and I have it on my Nikon Z50 camera. I got it on eBay for $1600. I have to use a bipod because my hands are too weak. I’m very impressed with the quality of the pictures. Your pictures turned out great. ❤❤❤ I would very much to see more pictures like that in low lighting conditions. Thanks for sharing your photos and videos with us. ❤❤❤
I'm happy you like yours!! I definitely like using a monopod with it -- but I'm happy that it is lightweight enough to hand hold...sometimes I'll rest myself on a fence or like the top of my car when I'm trying to photograph the moon, and that's easier than getting out my monopod/tripod. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!! 📸✨
Hi Boston, with your z6II, you should be able to crank up your ISO to at least 5000 or more. This will allow you to use a faster shutter speed so you don't get blurry pictures. Although, motion in some photos does give a cool effect. Try a high ISO. I'm sure you'll get amazing results. You can always add noise reduction in lightroom. Hope this helps :) PEACE and long live rock n roll!!
Thanks for commenting!! Absolutely - I can definitely push the ISO, but most of the time, I feel like I have no need for it. Now that I'm using this lens at f/6.3 -- I'm definitely going to push more of those high ISOs. It's a great tip; thank you!! I'll definitely be trying it out at my next stadium gig!!
You are so cool! Fellow Nikon Z user here in NYC. You have a new subscriber, and I found your IG account too :-). Judging from the stuff on your wall you're super passionate about music and musicians - rock on!
(Apologies for the delayed response! Getting back into the swing of UA-cam!!) 📸✨ Thank you so much for watching and commenting, Tom!! I appreciate you subscribing and all your kind words!! Love hearing from other Nikon users!!
You may want to bring up shutter speed a smidge. That is the rule of thumb but the image stabilizer should be doing it’s job . Maybe 1/320 (or whatever the 300 range is). Not sure what ISO you have to shooting at but the z6 has the better dynamic range of the Z cameras with the unfortunate cost of resolution (for cropping). Maybe try underexposing a bit just as a experiment and use the histogram to make sure you aren’t clipping too much, and being up the shadows in post. I have the Fuji 150-600 for crop sensor and I sometimes have to play with the idea of underexposing because of the limitations
Completely agree! I definitely think I should be shooting faster with this lens. And tbh, I'm not sure I even had image stabilization on during the shoot with Ringo. 😣 As my first attempt with using the lens in my normal settings, I was pretty happy with it - but definitely need to adjust more! I'll definitely shoot faster next time!
You lucky little girl...I pre-ordered my Z 180-600mm lens just like that one you have 2 weeks after they pushed it out to pre-order and I STILL don't have mine. Kinda starting to get a little pissed off but I guess I will wait another week or so to see if it ever comes. Thanks for sharing...I used to shoot concerts as well. The Dead, Allman Brothers, etc... Have fun...Peace
Sorry for the super delayed response, @mikebreazeale2563 - but I'm sure you've received your lens by now. How do you like it?? When lenses like these come out, there's almost always pushed to back order and delayed. I know they priority NPS members (even free NPS members). Are you signed up for NPS? If not, it might be a good idea before your next lens order!! :) Anyway - hope you got your lens and love it. Thanks so much for watching!!
Where did you get your 2-step ladder? People have been recommending home depot aluminum ladders to me - they're definitely safer, so I'll have to check it out!!
I think the affordability of the z 180-600 is going to draw people to purchase it. I have been debating on if I should purchase the Z400 f4.5 and corp or get the more cheaper but versurtal z 180-600. I have debated about my needs and own a range of z lenses a while ago got the two times z converter it does help but I would recommend you drop from fx to Dx and save the money spent on the two times converter. The Tamron 150-600 did not cut it for me so unless Nikon bring out a S series of the z180-600 I think it's going to a utility lens for many Nikon users. I live in the UK so country parks and street photography are the norm. I purchased the z 8 a few days ago the difference between the z 8 and z7 ii is chark and cheese .my images with the z8 are amazing blown away ths z7-2 but this is my point I am using the z lenses on the z 8 and they preform even better. So investing in lenses till the time z 8 and 9 drop is well worth the money. Just be sure you chose wisely. The 14 -30 z is a get zoom lens even at f 4..... The z 24-120 f 4 is a most have . The z s series is a standard of excellence at the moment .so all the best with your new lens. My advise is switch from DX to Fx and avoid converters. My 70-200 z f2.4 works loads better that way . Thanks for the blog.
Just asking how you feel about the 180-600 z now? I have a tip, the z 40 f2 .... Plastic yes but I rested it and to my amazement it's a gem. I brought it because I was in two minds about purchasing a z50 mm or Z 35 mm lens.. I have the 24+120 F 4 zoom and it's always given me great results. But primes for professional work are needed by me. The z40 mm at the time was around 240 USD . Fitting in between both ranges of 35 ... And ..50 .the s range primes had not been released yet. So I got the 40 z just to see ....... It's plastic light weight has nothing in the way of VR yet all z bodies have VR and I am shocked the 40mm.on my z 8 just comes up trumps .... Worth thinking about if simply because I stuck mostly with Z lenses and when I up graded to the z 8 over the z7-2 those lenses shime even better.so the new lenses are worth thinking about one day you will up grade your z 6 but if you have the z lenses they will shine on the up graded bodles for a long time to come .hope this helps
(Apologies for the delayed response! Getting back into the swing of UA-cam!!) 📸✨ I appreciate you watching and commenting!! So many great notes in your comment. I love that you got the Z8 and love it - I've kept my eye on the Z9 but I can't justify the spend right now haha! As for this lens, I still LOVE it. I use it quite often with my crop sensor (Zfc body), especially if I'm trying to photograph the moon. It looks great with both my full and crop bodies. The only other lens that I have my eye on is that Nikon Plena (135 1.8). I love a good prime lens, but I rarely use them as I like having the variety of a zoom lens, but I can't get over how gorgeous those Plena photos are. If you're looking for another great prime - that might be the answer for you!!
If you finally buy this lens then consider the LEOFOTO MPG-01 little head for your monopod using it by turning the lens-foot 90'... Works like Gimbal...
Waiiiiiitttttt what?! It's not actually larger when the moon is closer to the horizon?! No one has ever told me this and I'm so confused now haha. Does it "appear" that way in camera too? I guess I have to educate myself more on moon photography!

Agree with the comment here - this lens is weather sealed! I don't think you should have any problems with fungus / too much humidity! I do store all my lenses with silica packets to help draw out any moisture that might be in them after I've taken them out.
Sadly, 400mm doesn't give me all the length that I need for some shoots. I looked into a 400 prime for a while, but figured the 180 - 600 would be better for me because it's a range that's not really overlapping with what I have (ie, 70-200) but also cheap(er) and allowed for those really far away distances I needed. I also kept gravitating to renting the 180-600's so I figured it was a good fit for me! I wish I could also have a nice prime too!
Great to see someone using it with the Z6ii at last.
Love the Z6ii, and they're a partnership made in heaven!!
Those photos look amazing! And to have the opportunity to photograph Ring performing?!?! I'm so happy for you & can't wait to see more photos with it.
Thank you so, so much! That means a lot to me.

You should have gone with 400mm f4.5 or 100-400mm. Those lenses are much better balanced & light weight than 180mm-600mm
Sadly, 400mm doesn't give me all the length that I need for some shoots.
