It took Verdi with the exception of Macbeth until his middle period, to reach the heights Of " Lucia di Lammermoor " by Donizetti. This aria and cabaletta sung by Lucia's brother Lord Ashton is given a rousing sonorous rendering by Bass-baritone Andrei Kymach. This Ukrainian has among his other achievements a degree in philosophy.
Awful. I don't get this modern vocal technique of artificially darkening the voice, plus very constricted, this woofy, muddy sound. Wobble, very weak top register, barely audible. And the list goes on...
If you hear him live, it’s got tonnes of ring on it. To almost a ridiculous extent. It’s definitely not artificially darkened. If anything it’s bright.
You are correct. It’s a heck of an instrument. World class for sure. But not used well. Just listen to Robert Merrill sing this. It’s so much more clear and evenly produced. And the high notes are in tune.
@@jackholton9981 We have ears. We can hear. There doesn't exist a world where a voice that's dark, constricted, and muffled on recording is actually bright and clear in person. Source? I've sang professionally with singers twice this kids caliber for decades.
