Imagine how much free form noodling has come and gone without the camera rolling, never heard by anyone but Tom, before dissipating into the ether. I can only hope that those never heard harmonies floating around the atmosphere can help steer the world to a better place.
Thanks for all you do, Uncle Larry.
Someone with a 4 wheeler, please bring this man a case of Rolling Rock beer. Make that 2 cases, it’s snowing outside for gods sake.
"He's Bukovac good" is my new designation for greatness
Man, your in your garage with your kids knocking about and yet this is some of the best guitar I’ve ever heard in my life??
I know, I’m still in awe
For the life of me I don’t understand why this channel doesn’t have at least 500 thousand subs. Some of the best content on UA-cam . I can’t miss an episode and this was just another great example.
He just needs to do a few collabs with some bigger channels and Voila!
@@teddyboy9116 Yes.......
Thankfully he doesn’t do “reaction” videos or make click bait title screen shots. Just great “No fat” content. These videos are priceless.
This channel is a unique, charming example of doing *no* marketing and drawing a crowd on skill and sincerity alone. So incredibly unheard of. I found out about this fromThat Pedal Show, who raved about him for no other reason than his greatness.
I do wonder how big a channel like this can get-with zero promotion, zero clickbait, just keeping on keeping on.
...and has the humility to say..."i wanna play like that guy", referring to Doug Rapoport a couple videos back....
For later
0:00 “southern prog rock” intro jam
5:14 hello
6:08 sixths bends
8:30 G7 voicing
10:14 “D triad” riff
11:00 Bbadd9
12:32 some lick
13:58 Bb lick
14:39 slow jam
Full Sheddin'
Ha! You're hired. We'll be expecting this for every lesson from now on. ♥️
Perfect.
@@glennwhitlock1272 LOL
Dang...you just dropped enough licks in this one video to keep most of us busy for a lifetime trying to learn them.
Uncle Larry has an understanding of the fretboard like no other. Period..
Totally agree. He’s like part Jeff Beck, part Eric Johnson and part John McLaughlin. Speed, style and amazing knowledge of chords. I know he’s session man through and though but man I kept help but wish he would go on the road with Gordon and form a Weather Report style band where it’s just the highest level of musicianship and experimental music from open minds. Imagine Jaco and Uncle Larry jamming. Jaco had that level of creativity and play with endless endurance ....I could die happy after hearing that...
I've never heard Tom play jazz
I don't think it's his thing
@@vhollund Not in the style of Jazz. Just the way they thought as musicians. Jaco loved to play funk and rock too. He played on an Ian Hunter record and the bass player from Mars Volta once asked him why he didn’t play more rock and he said no one ever approached him to play it. I always looked at Joe Zawinul and Jaco as musical explorers, not just jazz players. Yes, they happened to play jazz and fusion but they were always experimenting with different sounds, gear and different styles of writing and arranging. They were open minded players. Zawinul’s solo shows in the 80’s beyond were more experimental music than anything when he had like 6 keyboards and vocoders set up.
Absolutely--I love after one of the kids interrupts (10:35) (which always does nothing but make Uncle Larry smile) his hands jump to two beautiful chords effortlessly; we can see what your two passions are in life: those kids and that guitar. You're beautiful, Tom.
There are more licks in these 17 minutes than most of us will contemplate in a life time. Not to mention the unbelievable chops... love you uncle Larry.
totally agree
That was some of the most epic guitar playing I have EVER heard 🤯
A strong contender for the highest note density of a homeskoolin and I LOVE IT !
Aaah the Hemingway of git. My Monday just improved
I couldn’t hold your musicality in higher esteem. This video is ridiculously good. Thank you.
Maybe my favorite Uncle Larry Guitar. It can cry, it can scream, it can shred, it can take the abuse of multiple tunings in a freezing cold garage and a whole lot of rage jamming. 🏆 winner hands down
Last Friday, I single-mindedly headed toward a six of Guinness in a local store to ease into the weekend. It's then I spy a Rolling Rock. "Should I?" a voice asks myself. And I do...I add a Rolling Rocking to the six of Guinness.
What followed could only be described as existential angst. How can a man whose playing I respect so much, a fellow progger steeped in rock and roll, a player who touches my soul with every video drink something so dichotomous to my liking? Has this all been a rouse? Nay...a lie? Then I realized I was buzzed from both the Rolling Rock and Guinness, and all was good in the world. Crisis averted.
Uncle Larry, I can't say I'll go down the Rolling Rock path again, but you are loved and respected. All my best to you and your loved ones.
Not that Guinness is all that stellar either. 🤪🍻
@@TimSamoff It doesn’t travel well. It’s lovely at the source though!
Depends where you are as to how well Guinness travels. I've drunk it in Dublin...no big deal...and just for comparison as not my preferred drink anyway..
@@jtwahoo6477 I’ve drunk it in Dublin as well and it was fantastic. Something to do with the water from the Liffey, so they say. Same tipple in New York and further afield - not so nice. But if it’s not your thing, then it won’t taste great to you anywhere...
If "solo rock guitar" was a sub genre like "solo jazz guitar" Tom would clearly be it's champion. Your mastery of time, groove and subtle inner chordal voice leading is so musical, subtle and tasteful I often forget it's just one instrument I'm listening too.
Thank u my dude
That guitar is amazing. Dream guitar right there.
All of my real uncles are pretty boring. Uncle Larry is truly the weird uncle I needed in times like these.
Oh lord! That ending 1,4,5 slow jam.. Man, geniusly tasteful, like played by angels!
“Cold out here... see if my hands are still workin...” Yea buddy, I think they’re still workin! Awesome as always!
Genesis feeling over some chords. Wonderful played. I regret I putting the guitar away for 25 years, but now it’s so fun again and this channel is inspiring.
One of my favorite episodes yet! Some times you just need 15 minutes of Uncle Larry tastefully shredding...no talking, no VCB, no commentary, just some of the most tasteful guitar playing on the planet!!!! Stay Warm bro!
In love with the tone of that guitar. Hopefully somebody with chains drops off some beer.
So many amazing nuggets, I'm sure people will be coming back to this one several times. Love that 'Dogs' part.
The last 3 minutes of this is beautiful, get it Tom!
Greetings, from Memphis. I have never liked a video faster.
Damn Unc that last 3 minutes is what I’m gonna call the COVID theme song. Thanks Tom that was great!
Holy mother of beer, that’s some of the most amazing playing I’ve heard.
Damn Tom, you were on fire today!!! Uncle Larry Rules!!
it took 92 episodes for Tom to finally noodle. And then play the sweetest composition, of course.
Uncle Larry, your playing is so “vocal” like that the Closed Caption algorithm thinks you are saying words like... oh ... you... and ah... while you are picking on the ol’ fiddle... Those words are shown on the bottom of the screen like your guitar said them... that’s hilarious and very cool... Oh, yeah. Lol
The main lesson I’ve learned here is the connection with guitar and vocal lines. Game changer
Wow thanks for making us aware of that. Its absolutely insane how the CCs try to capture Uncle Larrys in words and get so close-
Just reminded me of why I love your playing. The outro was so on point. Thank you for that.
I could listen to that for an hour... seriously epic stuff.
That 335 sounds magnificent!
I'm from Canada where it was -47 f last night. We just hide inside until Spring. Need Homeskoolin to get through the winter.
Quite simply, I absolutely cannot comprehend what -47 might even feel like.
This episode should be called "if anybody was wondering how much of a badass Uncle Larry is, now you know!"
Man ! I've watched every episode since day 1 (sadest chord of all time) and this is in your top 3 riffage at the top of the show.
Peace man
8 inches of snow tomorow where I live .🥶
A man from Cleveland gets snowed in without beer ??? Not buying that for a second !!! 😂
Too long in the south...forgot those winter driving skills.
@@wakjob961 Probably not the driving skills. Most likely the suburban merchants/lifestyle. On the other hand, East Nashville has beer. Walk to it, drive to it, all are welcome.
And that, children, is what a 1st call Nashville session player sounds like. Honestly, I’ve never heard him play anything that wasn’t simultaneously inspiring, jaw-dropping, and humbling. Tom, we are all very blessed to be able to share your gifts, so thank you so much!
Uncle Larry just said, "Here boys...chew on this" and then proceeded by giving us a feast that should keep us all full and at the same time "hungry" for the rest of our careers. Cheers and thanks for sharing that with us! Special bro!
How lucky are we to have Tom , my god this channel is goldmine !!!!
Ain't nothing's quite like Monday southern prog garage sessions with our favorite Uncle Larry.
Damn man, incredible stuff, got to re watch this again and again...thanks Tom
So great on so many levels and still raw!
Hey Tom, your fluency and command of the instrument never ceases to amaze (and inspire) me. The reputation you have gained as a top Nashville session cat is more than well deserved. Thanks for giving your time to us like this. Cheers from Akron.
Possibly one of the most important moments in musical history just happened.
Apparently, Southern Prog Rock...who knew?!?
I thought that was hyperbole. Then I listened to the whole thing. Bejeeezus.
When you get going, watching you play is hypnotizing.
Hi Tom , you are such a gift!! Thank u , God bless your heart!!
...SO much much colour in just one instrument ...astounding ...the very best
I'm a Philly guy and I was raised on Rolling Rock. Pony bottles so they'd stay cold in the summer heat. Sweet stream of consciousness jam Uncle Larry!! Thanks for posting.
When you hit that phaser....man. What a sound!
17:52 of pure joy. I feel your "no Rolling Rock Blues" pain
Hey Tom... I don’t know you personally... but I know with all my heart that you’re an awesome dad bro. The smile that you have whenever your kids is so genuine. Keep it up man! Oh and thanks for the riffs. Haha
Yesssss! You are the Bukowski of the guitar, you always make me smile and you always make me want to practice. Thank you!
Wow. What a show. I can’t wait for the B side of this record.
I've listed the that outro jam about 10 times so far , and I don't plan on stopping. It's stunning
Snowed in without beer??!!! Nothing about that sounds fun. Good luck, Tom. Stay safe and warm.
Rookie error.
@@LorriSanga Certainly unforced...LOL.
..the reason I keep a stash of bourbon .👍
One of the best inspiaring playing on this one! Thank you🙏
That was some Gone like a Train shit Tommy...reminds me of Bill Frisell in the playfull path you took there...I think you covered all the Steves! You rock dude!
I could (and have) watch these for hours.
Currently picking up some spray paint so I can tag “Bukovac is god” under an overpass. You’re the man Tom, thanks for the constant inspiration brother!
Thank you Uncle Larry. Made the end of a crappy Monday easier to deal with.
Tom, this was spectacular. A high water mark for sure.I sure appreciate you taking the time to make these videos.
Uncle Larry getting after it for the whole class today! Love it!
Freaking awesome 👌, love it Tom, that was great from start to finish😊😎😃🎸
These videos make me smile. Your playing is so effortless. While I'm not at your level, I still get so much out of them. Thanks, man.
Thankyou for uploading so frequently tom, it's been so inspiring!!
Love it when you do hodgepodges and medlies... stay warm and i hope the beer crisis gets averted.
Pretty sure this is my favorite episode! Thank you!
Damn, I've be studying this one for a coupe of months.
Enchanted guitar playing.
Thank you Tom🙏🏻
Incredible. Thanks!
This is the best guitar playing I’ve ever heard in my entire life. Astonishing.
Home flowin sledding!!! my favorite thing as a kid.. so cool
Jeez, I'd hate to see him with WARM fingers.
It’d make your brain explode.
That ending bit was pretty slick.
Beautiful - thanks UL.
Uncle Larry, man, love the way you voice chords....it really all starts with chords doesn't it? It would be a mind bending ripping good ride on one of your musical neurons as it streams from one musical idea to the next. Love being on the ride.
Stuck in my cabin in the woods with weather and the rona out there thanks Tom for keeping me from getting bored again! Dilly's Blues was just the ticket!
Awesome bro !
Both my cats are intrigued by your playing. They dig your music.
One of my favorite intros!! Thanks Tom!!
totally amazing!
So unbelievably clean! What a tone!! Made my day! Greetings from Sweden.
Holy moly uncle Larry! That intro was to die for....thank you.
Absolutely brilliant! Man, oh man! Rock on, Uncle Larry.
Wow just amazing, thank you.
Inspiring! What effortless flow.
I always like to see your videos Tom thanks
One of the good things about these youtube vids is getting to hear great players playing raw, live through an amp or just into the room... without being overproduced and shined up too much - I'd rather hear buzzes, snare rattles, fingers on wood and metal.... a bit less perfection and a bit more of improvisation too... music doesn't have to be all tied up nice and tidy in a song... I for one would love to hear Tom with some of these great players he shows us just bouncing off each other in a room and seeing where the mood takes them... like a Nashville basement tapes.
Thanks for all this Tom, it's much appreciated. I loved the vid of you in the studio overdubbing on the garagey song demonstrating all the things you've been talking about over the last year or so.
Dooood. I got no words
This is my favorite HS! Love when you just play, man! Could listen all day😘
Haha, at the start of the video I had to check if I had set youtube to play at 2x speed. You're smokin', uncle Larry!
Hey Tom, thanks for this lesson. Chock full of plenty of worthy nuggets worth acquiring!
Ian.
Just in awe. Fair play 👏👏👏
Very cool. We will have to call you cool-hand Bukovac from here on in.
The whole thing sounds awesome! Kinda like a little Bill Frisell, John Schofield and Allen Hinds mixed in with you're signature at every corner. Love it!
I hear elements of all those players. Nice choice of players too. Sco is always all over the neck when he plays. One of my all time favorites.
@@jordandangelo180 not my choice, uncle Larry is in complete control and ALL OVER IT!
I heard those Scofield vibes too!
Funny, I’m a huge Scofield fan and don’t usually hear him in Uncle Larry’s playing, but maybe I should listen more closely. One of the things I love about Scofield is how many quirky sounds and little odd noises he makes; given Mr. B’s trade as a session guy, there might not be as much room to get quite as weird as Scofield does on the regular. They’re all amazing though, all the players mentioned above, as well as our host.
@@johnfrenette Right, I hardly hear any of the guys listed above pop out and that's exactly what struck me about it. I'm thinking Tom usually has his idea he wants to share thought out ahead of time and due to professional discipline he manages and maintains that idea. I suspect this time he had less of a theme in mind and was just letting it all spill out so we got to hear everything outta everywhere.
Your playing is awesome, you make this hack keep picking it up and trying! Thanks man.
Thanks for the stream of consciousness that I can pick through and gather up a multitude of little gems.
