I would love to see an undercover testing of these virginity examinations, to have various women (some who are virgins, some who are not virgins, and some who have already given birth) examined, and to see if the doctor can even tell the difference

Hmm. I find it hypocritical. Most couples expect a man to know what he is doing on a wedding night. Why can not the same be true for the woman he is marrying. If she lost her virginity, and the man truly loves her, why not just accept her as she is. If the woman is a virgin on her wedding night, it is OK. If she is not a virgin, it is also OK. One is not better than the other. We are all different, and women have different personality types, so why expect the same behavior from all. Some women can choose and act on their choice to preserve their virginity, others can not. Also, practicing virginity is a religious thing. Overstressing and overfocusing on it is unhealthy. I think the best thing is to accept things as they are. If virginity is lost it is pointless to stitch it up. It would cause the woman unnecessary mental torment, that they are deceiving themselves and their partner about it. If the virginity factor is very important to the male, and they would not be able to get over it should the lie come to light, this could destroy a potentially successful marriage. So I believe, everybody should just be honest with themselves, with their partner and just accept things as they are. Reflecting upon my own life, I have come to realize that preserving virginity is not important to find a suitable partner, what is important is to find a partner who accepts you as you are.

As one woman mentioned (sorry, I can not recall her name), it seems far more invasive and shameful, as well as less honorable, to have a doctor- especially a male doctor- looking at her and poking fingers in or doing surgery! Perhaps a grassroots effort is needed to educate in this area-maybe starting with the Imam, and/or the mothers. I understand it is rooted in cultural aspects, which are difficult to change, but by knowing the biological facts, things might slowly change. For example, "virginity" can not really be proven or not, not all virgins bleed the first time, and many that do bleed do so due to dryness and not being in an aroused state. Think the way the Dr's are being portrayed is very unfair. Think its the 2nd Dr it was showing was very concerned for the 'daughter' and repeatedly asked if she's sure she wants to do it and told the 'mother' to not force her or pressure her. She did a good job and showed genuine concern.
My thoughts exactly. Also she knew that if she refused, the mother would take Nada somewhere else, maybe to someone who's not as kind and who could traumatise Nada even more. So I think she was trying to do the best for her, and when Nada refused, she accepted that immediately. I can't see how realistically she could have acted better.
@@frusia123 Agree. The Drs' assessment was done from a very narrow perspective and a lack of understanding of the wider circumstance (albeit fictional). The sinister music in the background further villainises her. The show unfairly tarnished her reputation.
@@nazty121 Yes, and vilified her in a situation where the legislators should be blamed, not her. This should not be legal. Another story is with the plastic surgeon shown later, he's dodgy. But that lady doctor Nada saw earlier, she acted with compassion and professionalism, and should not be blamed.
The doctor was fair as far as she attempted to intervene and provide some concern, and in the context of how society actually works, she tried her best knowing the patient could end up in a worse off situation.
It doesn't excuse the social malpractice of the hymen examination however.
By your logic if they ALL refused they could also stop this practice, and send a clear message to men that they are no longer playing this game.

Widespread within muslim communities tho, irrespective of where they are from (some Middle East, some North Africa and so on) cultural or not, it is engrained and not a minority taking part. It needs to be made illegal in the UK and that’s it, an outright ban to protect potential victims and also make it harder to organise arranged marriage to very young girls. I am from a muslim family on my father’s side and I am sickened by it. Failure of the system to protect very vulnerable women who sometimes have no one to talk to openly.

But the truth is that in MOST Muslim communities, the same expectations (including the need to be a virgin) don’t apply to men!
Instead of admitting that most Muslims do expect a female to be virgin when she’s getting married (unless of course she’s a divorcee or widow) and men don’t face the same criticism, many Muslims will claim that this is “propaganda to make Muslims/Islam look bad”.

I was 17 and tested after marriage because I refused my husband so I needed a test and I was virgin and normal person. I just wanted to know my husband first and then if I feel his right father for future children then I will go for it.

If it was a real situation and the doctor refused to examine her, the mother would likely take her to someone else, maybe not as kind, maybe someone dodgy. If the procedure is legal in the UK, the doctor can't fight the system herself. I think what she did was choosing the least evil.

There are female gynecologists if someone is not comfortable with a male doctor, but I've been to male doctors too, and they have always been very professional. It's not traumatic when you do it out of your own will and for your own benefit.

Not in the UK where you see a GP for everything from thyroid issues to heart problems, to uterine fibroids. But there are countries where access to specialist consultations and treatment is a bit easier, and women take advantage of it. Not because their mother in law tells them to do that, but for their own health, and that's not archaic, that's called proper access to healthcare.
