I’ve never heard of a soapwort. That’s interesting and thanks for sharing. Hope you have a blessed day and weekend Zaney May.

I've never grown soapwort but I find it fascinating that it can be used as soap.

My experience with soapwort is there are no standing up ones. They are sort of like runners. When they bloom they do stand up, there are many flowers once it gets going and smell very nice. Is considered invasive, but I just kept pulling some out when it got too much. I started with a couple of plants sowed by seed right in the ground. It winters through and each year there are more.
Funny story I have about the soapwort. We had moved to a place where one year these leaves came up. I thought they might be weeds, but I thought I’d see what would happen. Lo and behold they bloomed these beautiful white flowers with sort of pale bluish streaks here and there. And the fragrance was wonderful. When I noticed all the seeds in the fall I collected them, and marked them wild white flowers. I have been planting them every place we move to since. And, we move a lot. Lol I only identified them last summer as soapwort.

You already know I admire the native soapwort that grows around me, but mine has simple or branched stems usually 2 feet tall and will mature to a large colony and the lanceolate leaves should reach around 8” long. They can be pink or fade out to white. I tried growing the creeping or ground variety here and it wouldn’t even sprout for me!! I wanted to seed collect the tall variety but they kept mowing it down! I’ll purchase seeds this spring. I hope you enjoy yours!!! Great video!❤

Maybe as it grows it will become tall. You are the one that gifted me the seeds.
      Thank you.

@@zaneymay If it was from seed pods, then you have the variety Saponaria officinalis and the plants will grow tall. The creeping or ground variety doesn’t seem to fare well here. I sure hope they grow for you!!!

@@CiaofCleburne yes that is what it said on the container you sent me. I sure hope they grow. But so far they are growing like the creeping type.

@@zaneymay i havent personally grown them because I never had a sunny spot opened when I would also have the seeds so I have only harvested and “watched” them grow from a ways from my place. I will be sooo curious how and when the plant stands up because they definitely stand where I harvest from. I plan to grow this plant extensively in the future so any other vids you do on its progress will be greatly anticipated!!

Thank you. I'm in a hot zone 9b. I've been considering a change and feel 8a or 8b would be a pleasant shift. 💗
