Hey I’ve got some really great news to share with you, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on a cross and resurrected on the third day so you may all have eternal life. If you believe and repent of your sins and put your faith and trust in Him as you would a parachute jumping off a plane at 25000 feet up in the air, He will give you eternal life in heaven as a free gift and I promise you, He will change your life forever as He did mine. He is the ONLY way to heaven and He loves you all. Please think deeply about this with urgency because this is your eternal life and soul, you don’t know when you could die, meaning you could die at any moment, so please consider this with all your heart. If anyone tells you that Jesus isn’t the only way, they are lying to you and they don’t care about your future

02:51 🌅 Health protocols during travel include morning sunlight exposure, exercise, and managing stress.
07:33 💤 Quality, quantity, regularity, and timing (QQRT) are crucial for assessing sleep needs and patterns.
13:19 🌀 Vertigo is distinct from lightheadedness and often related to inner ear issues affecting balance and perception.
18:36 🌊 Techniques like fixating on a distant point or moving a finger towards the nose can help alleviate symptoms of vertigo by overriding incorrect error signals and anchoring the visual part of the vestibulo-ocular reflex.
21:01 🧠 Despite past factors like poor sleep, diet, or traumatic brain injury, the brain is resilient and can overcome years of neglect with proper care and lifestyle changes.
27:13 🧠 OCD involves miswiring in the basal ganglia and dopamine reward system, where compulsions exacerbate rather than alleviate obsessions. Behavioral interventions coupled with appropriate pharmacology can help.
30:59 🌞 Shifting circadian rhythm when traveling across time zones can be facilitated by exposing oneself to bright light a couple of hours before normal wake-up time in the days leading to travel.
36:18 🐟 Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish oil, provide crucial building blocks for nerve cells and the brain's lipid bilayer, aiding in various bodily functions.
38:11 🧠 Fish oil, particularly EPA, at doses of 1 to 3 grams per day, may have a mild to moderate antidepressant effect, supported by clinical trials.
40:33 💉 Recommended protocol for hormone level testing: baseline check in late teens, mid-20s, and 30s, then annually after 40 to monitor overall health and hormonal balance.
46:14 🏋‍♂ NSDR (Nervous System Daily Reset) after workouts may indicate intense training; consider adjusting workout intensity or duration to avoid excessive fatigue.
50:06 🦠 Optimize gut-brain axis function by getting enough sleep, consuming low-sugar fermented foods, avoiding excessive antibiotics, and promoting a diverse microbiome.
52:29 🪥 Oral health advice: Brush and floss teeth, avoid alcohol-based mouthwashes, and gently brush the tongue or use a tongue scraper for optimal oral hygiene.
53:55 🦷 Use a separate soft toothbrush to gently brush your tongue, and it's not necessary to use any additional products. Salt and baking soda can be used sparingly, as baking soda is low on the abrasion scale and unlikely to harm enamel.
54:53 🧠 Oral health is crucial for overall health, as poor oral hygiene can affect cardiovascular health and potentially contribute to conditions like dementia. Streptococcus mutans, a harmful oral bacteria, may impact brain health if it enters the bloodstream.
55:53 🛢 Oil pulling for oral health, while not strongly endorsed by dentists, is generally considered harmless. However, there's limited evidence supporting its effectiveness.

I had invasive fungal. Cause fluid around brain. I had a stroke like injury to brian. I feel like I am spinning. Cant' drive, fly. Getting a better a year out but had to learn everything again. Vestibular neuritis is what they called it. Anyone ever dealt with it. Absolutely overwhelming and I honestly have no faith in the medical people that have been dealing with me. They didn't even have therapy for me to learn how to function. Very scary for sure. Best wishes.

As someone who had severe OCD I was able to heal without any pharmaceuticals. I think they can be useful, but often it takes so long just to get the right pill or dosage. I was able to heal by balancing out my neurotransmitters through lifestyle changes and supplementation. One of the best things I learned is that you can’t control your awareness which is the automatic thoughts that come in, but you can control your attention, which is your focus. Once I learned to better control my focus I was able to finally start to heal. Exposure therapy can be useful (I completed it) but what really helped me was reducing rumination as much as possible. The process was very slow and difficult but day by day I improve. I would love to have a conversation about it to help others start to heal.

thank you for sharing that, @chillin32. May I ask what supplements have you used that helped you heal from severe OCD? I have been exploring magnesium, vit. D, probiotics, 5-HTP. What have you used?

    • @chillin32
      @chillin32 9 місяців тому

@@viktoriyafurman8177 Limiting the rumination and controlling my focus made the most significant difference. Supplements I currently use are NAC, inositol, mentholated b12/folate, creatine, Vitamin d, probiotics, tumeric, magnesium glycinate, and a mental wellness supp by beyond wellness. That’s just what has worked for me, always consult a professional. I would get your labs done and see what your deficient in. Remember that you are not your thoughts and to stop giving them power. The more you ruminate on the topic the more consistent the thoughts will be. It takes time but you got this. Ocd tries to attack our worst fears and the opposite of what we care about. Normal people get these intrusive thoughts too, we just have a lot of self awareness and care. Learn to let go, it will change your life.

Andrew thank you so much for what you do. You're making science readily accessible to the public. I just have one correction for you regarding your explanation of the physiology behind the VOR: the semicircular canals (SCCs) do not send sensory afferents utilized for the VOR via "marbles" (otoconia) rolling around inside of them. This actually describes the pathophysiologic state of a canalithiasis variant of BPPV in which the otoconia are erroneously free floating in the endolymphatic fluid within the SCCs. Under normal circumstances, the otoconia reside on the maculas of the otolith organs (the utricle and saccule). Angular movements of the head cause the endolymphatic fluid within the SCCs to deflect the cupula either toward the utricle or away from it (dubbed utriculopetal or utriculofugal motion) which causes either an excitatory or inhibitory signal to be sent. Source: I'm a certified vestibular physical therapist. Again, thank you so much for what you're doing!

One comment on fish oil: I was able to stop taking medication to improve concentration and focus since taking it. **This was done under a physician's care. Please don't try this without consulting your health care provider** Now, I am leaning into a paleo-ish diet and have noticed other improvements in my mood, energy, and reduction in my need for sleep. I've always been a firm believer in "food as medicine," but experiencing these changes has really opened my eyes and impacted my life for the better. Thanks for reading.

I've had vertigo for a few years now, at one point I stayed home for 2 straight days because I couldn't walk too far without having to hold onto a counter top to ground myself. Got my ears checked and they said I performed better than the average person on tests. Later got diagnosed with vestibular migranes however I've never had any past issues with typical "headaches", let alone this form of migraine. Have been taking otc magnesium every day and has been the only thing that's helped consistently . Thinking I need to get my eyes checked now!

Actually, what causes OCD is overthinking, says one OCD expert. So before someone developing OCD, he/she was already a very sensitive person. And that is true because I also overthink too much before I had OCD. So, if we want to heal from OCD, "no overthinking is allow", the expert says. Of course, sometimes we have to think things deeply. But this is different than overthinking. The OCD expert has a UA-cam channel. Its name is Ali Greymond. I recommend you to watch her video. These are my 2 videos recomendation from her channel.

    Dear Dr. Huberman,
Would you consider making an episode about vegetarian diet. About its pros and cons, myths, correct alternatives to meat, and everything around it from a science point of view?
I couldn't find an episode dedicated specifically to vegetarian diet and it's impact on health.
Thank you for your consideration, and thank you for your amazing work.

@@dustintouchton7479 vegetarian diet is extremely unhealthy due to low necessary microelement intake that occurs by not eating red meat/fish/any seafood etc. supplements at some point might help, but at all cost would recommend staying away. check out ray peat diet. and not to mention plant based protein is not just unhealthy - its just risky to consider as "an alternative" due to many factors, such as having xenoestrogens, mycoestrogens [Estrogeneration book would help understanding this]. there are pretty much no "good" or "correct" alternatives to meat.

For vertigo one possible solution is otoconia maneuvers. Some physiotherapists know how to do it. The vertigo activates in certain specific positions of the head. For me it was head up and to the left side. Basically there are manual test to see if octoconia is the cause and manual maneuvers to pop them back into place.

I've been thoroughly enjoying your podcast and the wealth of knowledge you bring to each episode. As a post-graduate student in a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program, I find your insights incredibly valuable and informative. Your most recent episode on placebo, nocebo, and belief effects reciprocated with the topic we are currently covering in my psychopharm. class.
I wanted to ask if you can look into bioidentical hormone replacement therapy for women in one of your future episodes: the current advancements and updates in Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) for women, the most effective protocols of administration. There is so much conflicting information out there. Given the importance of hormonal balance in mental health, exploring the different protocols, what's generally recommended, and any recent research findings could be incredibly informative for your audience.
As someone immersed in the field, I believe this would be a topic of great interest and relevance, especially considering the evolving understanding of how hormone fluctuations impact psychological well-being.

Thanks for a great episode! Quick thought to add about Vertigo that is often overlooked or not mentioned as it's not common knowledge. Vestibular migraines are a specific type of migraine that can have auras/disturbances that are often completely separate from a physical headache/migraine, vertigo being one of them. I've had vertigo and dizziness for years, ruled out all potential inner ear and visual issues, and could never figure out what the issue was until I saw a neurologist who gave me the vestibular migraine diagnosis and a successful treatment plan. Just wanted to share this info as a lot of folks do not know about vestibular migraines, and many people think that in order to have migraines, you have to have the headache component. Would love to see vertigo/migraines highlighted further one day, could make for a very interesting episode. Thanks for all you do, cheers!

TBI…My daughter had a severe ski accident- she did hit her head, but what caused the biggest brain issue was the very rarely talked about ‘fatty emboli’ that her broken long bones released & went to her brain. Also the long time it took her to get to a hospital & the inner bleeding caused hypoxia. It’s been several years, she is doing remarkably well due several things like complimentary treatments etc- I intervened while she was in the hospital to get less opiates, give her high omegas in her feeding tube , acupuncture & other modalities ( took some convincing) but all these early interventions I know helped her recovery & confused the neurologist - as his other patient with similar injuries & age did not make it. I’m wondering, are there studies going on tying in early unconventional complimentary modalities to brain injury recovery? And if not, why?

Three years ago I woke up with full blown vertigo. I had never experienced anything like it. As a former gymnast, dancer and yoga practioner, I am so intune with my spacial awareness, I'd describe it as a sixth sense. Needless to say this vertigo was unacceptable. I saw half a dozen Dr's. Who basically told me to do a few head and eye exercises and wait it out. When I researched vertigo, I came across countless stories of people dealing with it for years!! Again, unacceptable. I researched inner ear issues and came across lymphatic drainage videos. I decided while I was stuck at home since I couldn't drive with vertigo, I'd follow along with them to see if they'd help. I did four lymphatic drainage routines a day, specifically targeting the ears, face and neck..and it really didn't take long before the vertigo went away. This is just my personal experience.

Vitamine D for vertigos: Dr Huberman, first of all I´d like to thank you for your podcasts - they are great thanks to the content and the way it is delivered it. I listen to them on a regular basis, really educational, approachable and understandable for a normal human being like myself; If you don´t mind, Id like to share one thing here. Since I suffer from vertigo - big time, going from doctor to doctor, literally - knocked off my feet for days sometimes weeks. I was told by one of the doctors to have my vitamin D checked - and correct, I was low on it. It took me years to hear that it might be linked to vertigos, and, touch wood, has been working in my case ( I don´t think it´s been a placibo effect - or maybe, hard to say 😉😂). So now, I try to take vitamine D (when I remember) and I also try to expose myself more to sun, and I havent had it since. I also link it to stress, since it often hits after stressful months, so, yep... Hope, it can help someone who suffers from it too. ps. Im not an expert or anything, Im just someone who suffers from it, so please don´t take it as medical advice, just as a piece of advice ;)

19:00 what about ear crackling and inner ear pressure imbalances between ears that cannot be mitigated with the Valsalva maneuver? Seemingly what people attribute to Meniere's disease - The issue with that label for me though is that I've struggled with these since I was really young, at about 20 years old, after an incident where one of my eardrums seemed to have burst. I was incredibly dizzy after and had to lay in bed for 2 weeks before I felt like I could overcome the vertigo. No more vertigo but the symptoms I mentioned have remained since.

Thanks for the visual tip for vertigo and motion sickness. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the semicircular canals don’t normally have otoliths or stones that roll around inside them, like a hula hoop, but rather endolymph, a more gelatinous fluid, that moves inside the canals. The otoconia, or crystals, are in the utricle and saccule and help more with detecting translational motion.
