🤣🤣🤣🤣it cracks me up, that Butterick, write start after breakfast and wear it for lunch and then in the pattern discription writes let it hang for 24 hours🤣🤣🤣🤣 but i love the dress, its so beautiful and so easy to make changes to
Right! Too funny. It’s a great easy pattern to sew up. Thank you for watching.
I heard that too. So if you can have made to wear to lunch l guess you just don't hem it until the next day. Hahahaha
Your comments are spot on. Also this is the nicest version I’ve seen & there are 100’s out there.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I really appreciate your feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed this version of the video. There are indeed many other versions out there, but I strive to make mine the best I can. Stay tuned for more content!
I am so glad you participated! But yes, the reproduction is rife with changes from the original. I have compared them before (one on top of other) to show the big changes that were made in this “reproduction”.
Either way you did a GREAT job!!!
Thank you 😊 ❤️ It was great fun!
if someone were to hunt down this pattern, what version would you recommend most, the original, or the reproduction?
@@midnightqueen3332 Ive watched several videos of this challenge and those who did both patterns often prefered the original, but the overall consensus and my personnal opinion from all the ones I saw, including just 1 version ones, is that both versions are very flawed and will not look right or behave on most body types. So really, if I was to make it..... I would just use either as a starting point and modify the heck out of it to acheive the proper look. Would take much longer, but would be a dress that fits me well and that I'd actually enjoy wearing.
@@kimitsukouseki9872 Thanks. I am looking for fast patterns for clothes that I can learn and toss together quickly. With my measurements and body proportions, I might be better off going a different route, and holding off on this. I may be better off learning to draft my own version, once I do a bodice/skirt block.
Have you seen the closet historian self-drafted version? It looks way better @@midnightqueen3332
I love the sewing challenge!! I think you sewed it in less time. You were filming and teaching while sewing.
Ha. True! I was thinking that too! Thank you for watching .
Great comments about what you’d change. Looks good and if a good fit easy to wear. Thanks for sharing ❤️😁
You’re welcome 😊 Thank you for watching.
I think you won for fastest time. StephanieCanada had some alteration issues and wound up adding pockets. Women's clothing needs pockets. I like your ideas for the front. It's interesting to watch all the videos. One person didn't have enough fabric for the double skirt pattern piece, so made it with just a single bit, and it came out really nice. I think a 2nd challenge with the same dress would be interesting. This time, not the fastest, but the one with the best alterations to be the cutest or most elegant or practical or whatever sets it apart.
Thank you for watching. I like the idea of who can create the best alterations for it making it practical.
i love the navy with the small print and your ideas for a better fit!
Thank you!
I have made this dress so many times way before the challenge
I used the original pattern and it safest to use a piece of elastic with a bar and eye for the front piece that wraps around to the back. It helps keep the front tight. It does not meet at the front but has a small gap to see the front fabric and I usually cut this back a few more inches and use 2 ties to secure the back in the front
I love the additions that you put on the dress for closure. I think it totally needs those. I would love to see your dresses. Send pics! Thank you for watching.
I’ve seen a couple of people make this dress for the challenge. The pattern fits you the best so far. Most of the others the neck was too wide and just didn’t sit right. You look lovely ❤
Awww thanks. I really appreciate that. 🎀
I am DEFINITELY making this dress. I adore it
Have fun! It is such a great dress! Send pics! Thank you for watching.
You are the queen of speed and it looks awesome on you!
You did Great! Your dress came out so cute! Bravo!
Thank you 😊 🥰
Thank you for this video. I'm in the middle of it and was unsure of some things so you cleared them up ❤️
Excellent as usual.. I love your suggested modifications ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you & I’m happy to hear you liked my suggested modifications 💓 Thank you for watching 🤗
Lovely 😍 Ive seen so many fitting badly, yours is best fitting, perhaps it fit your figure the best? ☺️ Or just your great sewing skills? 🥰 The few things I would want to alter about the dress is like you said to put in a waistband instead of a button in the back. Also in the front actually, that way it would also be a little size adjustable allowing for slight weight gains/drops. I would also like to fix the armpit area of course ☺️ And I would like the front part to go all around the back just to feel a bit more covered 😅 I go by bike everywhere, even when wearing skirts and dresses. But the. They require a bit extra fabric to cover up properly and allow for movement 😅 Thank upu for this video, now I might have the courage to try this dress to with those minor tweaks ☺️
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you found the dress fitting well. It's all about finding the right adjustments and making it work for your body shape. Good luck with your dressmaking adventures!
I’d be lucky to finish this in 2 weeks! lol
Great job and you look fantastic in it!
Thank you!! 💕🎀💖
Your in Chicago, you know how cold winter can get. The fabrics you used were good for spring and summer. If someone were to attempt a heavier material for a fall/winter walkaway dress, what fabrics would you recommend? or are heavier fabrics going to be too dense, etc?(I realize it may require ties/buttons, more than snaps with heavier fabric)...Perhaps a penne velvet exterior/Flannel liner...Gears are definitely turning...
I love the ease of this dress but in ND,USA we see actual temps in the -40F range, and that dress, how you did it, with those fabrics, will definitely be gone with the artic winds LOL
Hi! Oh yes that dress I made is definitely for warmer weather. This dress would be adorable in flannel! Maybe wear a turtleneck under it & a cute cardigan over it? With some fleece lined tights & your winter boots! -40 is very cold! I would wear a snowsuit & a face mask with some socks that heat up! Lol With the heavier fabrics I would for sure add extra ties or button holes for more strength. This could be great cute out of a quilted fabric as well. Hummm 🧐
I have watched so many of these. Yours is quite pretty. I do like your suggestions to update the dress. I will wait while you create it. Hahaha
Ha. Thank you so much . I really appreciate that 🤗
Even before seeing Mrs Canandas comment below, I knew you were using the repro pattern. I watched another lady who tailored the entire pattern from the original. The front skirts dont resemble each other. Both are cute. Anyone have a 3x similar pattern??? I would really like trying it.
You did such a beautiful job. It fits you beautifully.
Thank you 😊 I really appreciate that. I was happy with how the fit turned out too.
@@SewAnastasia you are very welcome. I’m 72 years old and I wore quite a few dresses like your beauty. Thank you for sharing.
@@louettesommers8594 ahhhh I love it!!! I would love to see photos if you have them 🥰
@@SewAnastasia unfortunately when my mother died in 1981 my selfish older brother took every one of our family albums. It make me very sad for a long time. One of my dresses was one I wore to my jr.High graduation. It was so cute. My aunt made it for me. Just plain white cotton with red polka dots. It was sleeveless and had a really full skirt. I sure wish I could share it with you. After my aunt made it she gave me all the scraps and years later when I made a little quilt for my first child and used the red and white dots to bind it. Thankfully I still have that little quilt. Happy memories. I almost forgot to mention that the fabric for that dress was bought at WT Grant’s, 5 and dime and was a whopping 4yards for $ 1.00 Those were the days. 💜😉
I would be down for some sewing challenges... I made this for my wife, made some alterations (e.g. underskirt with ruffles, back connection) but took me like a week as I did not know it was a challenge, just thought it was a cute pattern lol... i think the reproduction pattern was fine as I sew both types
Under skirt with ruffles sounds amazing!!!! Good to know about the sewing challenges. I like hearing that someone else sewed up the new pattern & it worked well too 🎀 Thank you for your feedback & watching.
WOW! THIS LOOKS SO DARN CUTE!! Like my others, I’ve seen other gals create this dress; however, your suggestions and quick tips make it look so easy! I am so tempted to try it myself. Yes, I do agree with you! You should start a sewing challenge!
It really was sooo easy. You should try it. What should the first sewing challenge of the year be?!
Wow that would be a great 4th of july dress thanks for sharing .
OMG i totally need to wear it for the 4th of July this year! thank you for watching.
@@SewAnastasia I hope you do! Such a great design awesome job on it.
Love it, you did a wonderful job. Love sewing challenges
Thank you for watching! What kinds of sewing challenges would you like to see? I really want to do some in the new year :)
I love sewing. My Pfaff machine died after almost 35 years! My downfall on a make-do machine is a nightmare on tension adjustment. What modern dress making machines have auto Bobbie and upper tension settings? A bobbin which refills itself can’t be too much to ask for. If I’m spending a few thousand dollars, please give me some input.
I would check out the Viking machines! I love mine.
I made one for my Granddaughter but made pattern adjustments, especially at the arm holes and kept the front a little open to see the contrast. I also cut the shoulder seams thinner. See picture below
That's great to hear! It's always fun to make adjustments and personalize patterns. I'm sure your granddaughter will love it!
This was sew fun 😆 thanks for sharing your mind while you work and your sewing hacks. I love short cuts. I always want to skip or change things too! The dress looks great on you ❤️ Thank you for this video.
Thank you for watching! Yeah I love short cuts. I tend to sew like a manufacturer/fashion designer because time is money! Lol 😂
I bought this patter to try and I have never posted something to UA-cam but may give it a go? This looks really fun! I am smallish so may have to do some adjustments! Thank you for sharing your creative ideas! Blessings from Kansas!
Omg yes give it a try! You can shoot it on your phone 📱 Can’t wait to see it!
dude you are legit edna mode
🥰
Super cute dress and in much less time than it would've taken me 🤪I would've had to take a raincheck for lunch 😂 I really appreciate your vulnerability with you just being you. Very well executed. 👍👍👍
Have you made your own bias binding? Would you make a video? Thnx 😊
Thank you!! 😊 I have made my own bias binding and I think I have a video on it. Let me check. Here is the closest one that I have. ua-cam.com/video/ApoE8wAV8TQ/v-deo.html
Well done and cheers on beating your target time! I bought this pattern a few weeks ago and was delighted to see you make it. FYI, @g00dbad makes an apron dress that is similar to the walkaway, with both front and back ties and shoulder pleats - very cute, but still has the armhole issue you describe. I will refer back to your video often, I'm sure. Thank you!
Very nice.
Thank you 😊
Love it
🥰
You're sewing at 17 minutes and it took me a whole hour to iron and pin them 🤣
All good. Maybe try pattern weights instead of pins? Se d me pics of your dress!!! I wanna see!!
The ones l have seen made had the ties not a button. I have seen this dress made in so many different ways with each ladies on adjustments.
The fun part of design. Everyone has their own style. Which techniques are you going to use when you make it?
did you fold the fabric under twice when you were doing the skirt hem?
Yes, I did. I did a 1/4 inch rolled hem. Are you making the walkaway dress right now?
Everyone talks about making the dress shorter for shorter people, but…hear me out on this…what about making it LONGER?
It’s the perfect solution for last minute formal/semi formal wear with some simple tweaks.
Now That's a great idea! Longer, a bit more glittery fabric....Yes!
Fabulous This is great! Any idea what the seam allowance is??
I’m just curious, could you have used your front and back bodice you created using your own measurements then connect the skirt? I only ask because if I use the standard pattern I will have to do a FBA before I can complete it…am I right?
You can totally use your sloper to make the bodice that fits you then add the circle skirt to it.
I know you said the back skirt got into the selvage, but it looks like your pattern was off the fabric completely at the apex at the 3 min mark. I'm a shorty too and probably won't need the full pattern length. Did you just shorten overall to keep a nice round skirt?
The hem of my skirt was on the selvage so I blended it into the circle. It wasn’t that much so I just blended it. My apex/ bust points where all on my fabric. I sewed up 6 darts. I just shortened the bodice length for the back pattern piece. I left the skirt length.
I will be making to where l can wear a shirt under it. I have to have sleeves, religious reasons. And the view with the contrast.
Wearing a shirt under it is a great idea! A turtleneck would be cute for winter ❄️
Cảm ơn cô gái xinh đẹp, công việc của bạn thật tuyệt vời
💕💕💕
You look like you walked right out of the fifties. The length was perfect for the period, but perhaps not 2023. Either long or short the fit was fantastic. ☺👍
What a great job! The repro pattern has a lot of mixed feelings, that gaping armhole is annoying though…I have the repro pattern and intend to make this dress with it versus the true vintage pattern because I don’t have the pattern altering skills. Your dress turned out really nice.
Thanks! Yeah I don’t get why people don’t like the repo. It sewed up good & looks just like the original to me. I will have to get the original & try it out too!
Wow it looks great! Did you end up using the reproduction or the the original vintage pattern?
I used the reproduction pattern. Thanks for watching!
What brand of iron???
I have no idea to be honest. I can check next time I am in the studio.
@@SewAnastasia thanks😍😍
@@elzinawhite3199 for sure
I wish they would say how much material
I think it was around 4/5 yards
Great job😄 Is your machine an Epic 2?
Thank you :) yes that’s the machine I am on in the video. Do you have one too?!
@@SewAnastasia I sure do! LOVE it!!!
What the iron brand /name?
Looks great and good job!! Do you have a pattern or tutorial for your peppermint suspender skirt?? It’s adorable
Thank you 😊 I kinda have a pattern for it. It’s the circle skirt pattern on my site & I added a wide 4 inch waist band instead of two & added two long straps & put ruffles on them. Hope that helps & thank you for watching ☺️
Why don’t you just pin your pattern to the fabric with straight pins?
Because it lifts up the fabric and makes inaccuracies. It is best to leave it flat and cut it. It is how clothes are manufactured.
@@SewAnastasia I just learned something new.
