    • @EyesDontCry
      @EyesDontCry Рік тому

      Except they are stereotypes and not facts, not every black guy has a big dick and not every Asian is smart. Its not a racial characteristic its a genetic or cultural one.
      Those stereotypes make those who do not have said things feel inferior and shameful over it, a black guy is shamed for not fitting the stereotype, an Asian person is made fun of for not being smart or assumed to be smart when they really are not. These obviously have negative effects on those people.
      Its not "recognising differences between races" it's accepting stereotypes as fact because they sound positive when in reality they are not and only help to reinforce division. There is no Asian gene making Asians smart, there is no black gene making black people have big dicks. You can point to potential cultural differences and genetic differences between nations of people because of the breeding of those nations and breeding between nations which could lead to those gene pools being diluted with certain characteristics MORE than others, but it doesn't make them true for everyone included within that race.

      Like if I walk by a black guy eating watermelon and fried chicken I’m not racist for understanding the social context of what I’m witnessing. Being racist would be going up to a black guy and saying “wow you must LOVE fried chicken and watermelon”
      It’s not that complicated lol

      @wilhelmhause3510 Рік тому

      @@eliyarrows2456 it's a shame that the word lost all value. The act of being racist is brought on by hate and the desire to act in a negative way towards a person based on skin color, it always had been. Both situations you described seem like they could be construed as antagonistic, but the Asian example is so incredibly far from being racist. Complimenting somone based on s stereotype is misguided and a bit weird, but not racist. The black example was indeed racist, on the basis of being demeaning.
      We can't just remove the emotional aspect to racism because that is what truly distinguishes racism from all other forms of negativity.

    Intent is key imo. Just like there's a difference between manslaughter and homicide, there's a difference between racism and ignorance. Although ignorance can lead to racism the intent of the ignorance defines the situation. It's different if I ask a question wanting to know more about the culture of a group of people that may come off as racist compared to being ignorant and refusing to learn differently.

    • @user-hr2zy7ct8h
      @user-hr2zy7ct8h Рік тому +2

      Idk saying Asians are good at math is kinda racist to me but also accurate. The reason is if we attribute positive things to ethnicities then attributing negative things is just waiting around the corner. Like if you said they are slightly better at math, then you're describing something real. And then flipping the coin would only have a "slightly" negative stereotype behind it. But if you make bold statements about "races" or ethnicities then blatant racism is well within your reach as well.
      Also what's positive and what's negative is up for interpretation. You're saying Asians are good at math, I can interpret that as Asians are nerds, you're saying black people have long PPs, I can twist that into a stereotype about their women or something like that.

      Exactly, I don't necessarily blame people who aren't affected by the stereotypes for not understanding because it sounds like a godd thing, but you need to remember stereotypes are not factual and simply an example of correlation. Just because we see alot of smart Asian people doesn't mean they are all smart, it's a cultural reason where in alot of Asian countries people are pressured to perform well at a young age academically by parents and peers alike, that has nothing to do with race that's culture. It is a commonality that there are black dudes who have bigger dicks than most, or seem to have are larger average size, this is a genetic issue not a race one (even though they are linked, one does not guarantee the other as you can obviously be black and not have a big dick even if your father has a big dick, similarly you can not be black and have a big dick, even if your father did not, I'm not saying it's common that happens because most of the time we do inherit those genes but you aren't guaranteed as that's how gene differentiation works with half of your fathers DNA being applied, not all of it.)

      It's not about the offence taken, it's about feeling superior to others, even if it's true for many, for others it may not be so and they might feel like they're not accepted for not having that attribute or whatever. There's many reasons it can lead down a dark path rather than a good one. It's not just you believe that race is good at something, you believe all others are bad at it.

    Stereotypes come from somewhere and that's why people get offended by them, even if they do apply to them. They are based on facts and the way things generally play out.. It is simple pattern recognition which is what out brains are good at...you see a snake in the grass you stay away from it because you know that some are venomous, that doesn't mean that every snake you see is, you just avoid on the off chance they are.
    (Edit: For those of you who are getting upset, I never said these things to be an advocate of racism or say this is right, it's just how I have seen things go in the world...when people get upset they have no problem trying to pass that pain they feel onto the person who slighted them like seen here in the replys. That only shows how sensitivity leads to more fighting and divide between people and the snake reference was kinda off point there and I did not mean to use a snake as a word of offense like calling someone a snake does, I just wanted to use the fact that some snakes are venomous while others look that way, so why would you risk it?)

I used to think like you until I started actually speaking to people who were of different races and realizing a burden that is placed on them. It’s not hard to treat people as individuals and it doesn’t make someone sensitive if they don’t want to be placed in some societal box because of an appearance that they have no control of.
