- IWC explained in 3 minutes. The International Watch Company, better known as IWC, was founded by American-born Florentine Ariosto Jones. The business was ambitious, an American traveling to Switzerland to establish his own factory, but the gamble paid off for a time. Jones set out to marry US production technologies with Swiss craftsmanship and began manufacturing watches from the German-speaking Schaffhausen. 1885 marked the release of IWC’s Pallweber pocket watches, an innovative approach to telling time using a digital display for hours and minutes. High tariffs when attempting to enter the American market provide too costly to absorb, though, and the company changed hands several times in the coming decades.

IWC watches are in incredible. I've been able to get my hands on one and folks let me tell you, with these watches you get more then just your eyes can tell. The feel of an Mark XVIII is something I've never experienced before. Yeah...y'all already guessed it... I fell in love with them😁
I have a mark 18 and love, easily my favourite watch and I've been buying watches for over 25 years

I really have fallen for IWC watches, they scratch every itch for me. Pilot, Portuguese, Portofino etc. their all so beautiful.

Always loved IWC. Buy used and enjoy the bargains. The 3706 Fleigerchronograph is a great value and a classic in 39mm. The Aquatimer 2000m with a white dial is also a great watch from 2010 or so. Both can be had for under $4K.
got myself a ref. 1872 for $800
Got into IWC from my Father's Cal89 he bought while working at his friend's jewelry store in the 50's. Have 3 from the 90's. The UTC pilot is my favorite, while a mechaquartz 3741 and white dial Mark XV rounds them out.
IWC doesn’t like money, they are completely ignoring their Ingenieur line. Bring back the Ingenieur in the original Genta design, hell even the 3239-line was perfect. I don’t understand why they scraped it
agreed, they're missing a trick but would you want irregular holes in the bezel like the original
Switching away from the genta design right before the rush for integrated bracelets was definitely a misstep on their part and I think they know it… feel like they plan in long years from product and it’s just taking them a long time to correct.
But again, sad.
It’s launching the new Ingenieur line in 2023!

@@martinnguyen6357 An acquaintance of mine working for IWC; after I complained that for the last 3 years IWC has been bombarding us with new pilot watches and not paying attention to their other lines.
Iwc are number 1 for me, best looking watches.

I have an IWC Carre in my collection. Relatively rare, you'll go quite a way to find a more striking dial and image of a vintage wrist watch...

IWC Schaffhausen, i compare it to Zenith.
I own no IWC nor i own a Zenith.
Both are tru watch brands that made watches for enthusiasts. No status, snob, and waiting lists. No crazy price increases, and inventors with movement technology.
For myself i like the Aquatimer. Difficulties are the same i have with Zenith. Seizes, availability.
Maybe a bit to grey compare to competitors. The fruity Breitlings gently spin my brains, the Omega watches always stay young.
Cartier, so powerful, hardly need no complex complications to find new fans. But Cartier is the same as IWC for me, difficult.
Omega, that is still for me the best for my wrist.

So what makes the IWC worth more than $7,000 more than the Laco Flieger A? Same dial, neither are chronometers. One millimeter isn't worth that much!

Luxury goods are what economists call Veblen goods, which means the demand of it increases as price rises. The price is part of the product feature.

Handle them, they’re entirely different products. If you want to tell the time for cheap, look at your phone.
It's a shame they don't retain value over time...
Who cares? The moment is important! Screw all that investment mindset just enjoy what you like and if then it turns out to be an investment, it's just an nice but unexpected sideeffekt 👍

You're largely right Roberto, although the true collector could care less. Residual value is often no indication of quality. As in this instance.
The most overated and overpriced watches I've ever seen. The price mrsp prices are absolutely insane for this quality of watched and I know that many many people agree with this sentiment.
If they use Inhouse Movement, do you understand the 500 million Roger Debut?
