I remember seeing G&C at the old Birchmere in Virginia. We happened to be there way early, looking through the door to see if there was anyone at the box office, when another guy was doing the same thing. I reached out to shake his hand -- it was Clive. Later we were in the front row, and I recall watching Christine singing. As she hit the high notes, she spred her fingers -- she put everything into her performance. What a great duo.
Used to travel 3 hours, on train/tube to London, to see Any Trouble, as a poor student. Saw 7/8 gigs, all brilliant. Great songwriters and musicians. Wheels in Motion was one of the first albums, I bought.
Wow-I’ve managed to overlook this over the years and knew little about the transition from Any Trouble to Gregson & Collister. Fun to see RT thriving in, I guess, as power pop an environment as I’ve seen him-even providing vocal support. Great stuff. - Paul
Christine was so back in the pack but eventually, once given the mike, had the most amazing voice. She could blow most singers of the day away with her range and volume. When Thompson takes a backseat and appreciates a solo....'nuff said.
There's a live set by the RT band (titled Faithless, recorded during the Across a Crowded Room tour) where Clive & Christine were in the band and on Tear Stained Letter, RT and Clive appear to be trading solos. Same happens on Crash The Party, off Watching The Dark. He always was a gifted guitarist.
I totally agree, Christine blew them all into the weeds. Gregson's a good songwriter, but defined by his decade and dare I say it, a bit boring. Christine Collister, massively under-rated singer. I have seen her play live on her own terms and with her own many talents, wow! That was a gig I'll not forget! Love and peace.
I’ve only just found this. I missed out on seeing Clive and Christine back then. A nice trading of solos between Clive and that guitarist on the left whose name escapes me, but I’m sure that I saw him at Cropredy a couple of weeks ago.
I remember taping this on my dad's betamax.....only to find that I'd not changed the channels and had ten minutes of Coronation Street.....great to see this again.
Oh...wait a minute. Who's that on the guitar all the way to the left? He looks so familiar. Now I remember. That's Mark Knopfler. He looks so cool with the beard.
Saw this one live all those years ago. I remember RT did a couple of sessions for Whistle Test around the same time - one with this band. Saw them live at Leeds Town Hall in July (I think) the same year (Gerry Conway on drums, though), and they were superb. Clive and Brendan Croker in support. A good evening out. Must've been, as I still remember it 23 years later.
This couldn't have been long before Christine started singing the lead and really turned into a great song....sorry to offend Clive, but she did have a better voice!
Saw this lot in mid 80s 3 hours of pure musical pleasure... I wish I was back there...what a night!
Christine Collister - just totally wonderful!
I remember this. I'm 55 and have never forgotten it. A stage full of talent and such great songs
great group (and great Christine Collister)!
I really loved the RT lineup in the Mid 80's with Clive and Christine.

She has an extremely loud and beautiful voice 10 + ft from mic when solo.

Clive and Chris performed in South Wales several times in the 80s. Fabulous people and performers. Wish I'd caught this combo!
Bloody oath she did! Saw them as a duo in Australia a few years ago - he was a great songwriter - she was a fabulous singer!
This has been on here for 14 years!! And I've only just stumbled on it. Awesome history stamp!!
Wish it was better filmed!!
Great group. They are so young here. Thanks for uploading this.
mullet alert

These guys are brilliant. Wish there was an upload of The Coming of Age
Thanks for posting this. I had the audio to this but never thought I would finally see the video.

Not Mark Knopfler, Richard Thompson.
@@peterdelmonte9832 Uh, duh.
Great song 😃👍 RT backing him up I think 🤔
clasic! clive's got soul to spare
Saw them as "Clive Aid" at the Half Moon Putney 2 days later - no Richard of course but a great band.
I saw this great band several times in 1985 - still have my tapes!!!

@shrew972 oops a second one just kicked in!!
who is the bass player
Phil Barnes, he worked in a record store that I managed.
Fabby stuff. Saw them dozens of times.
Who's the drummer?
It's Andy Ebsworth, Clive's drummer (at that time) in Any Trouble

You MUST be a girl!
