I just purchased the Delta and I have 0 issues with keyboard or arrows keys. The trackpad also doesn't click easily as you demonstrated. So far I'm very happy with this MSi. Great review btw
Alright, I think this is exactly what I was looking for. Great battery life, portability, and great performance compared to the 3050ti laptop I was looking at in comparison. I'm willing to sacrifice not having 100% sRGB for my photo editing since it's still in the high 90%. I'll just plug my laptop into my pro-art display for a final review before I export images. Best buy has a pretty great price at $1300.
I think it's not worth buying an AMD GPU laptop yet... wait a few months until more come out and get one with a MUX switch... these ones are not giving you the full power of those GPUs... 6700m is a 10GB VRAM gpu and it will absolutely trash 3060 laptops and their 6GBs of VRAM with a MUX switch cause it will disable the integrated graphics and use the full capacity of the GPU... same with 6800m which is a 12GB VRAM laptop and when you connect it to an external screen through the 3C plug that connects to the GPU and bypasses the integrated graphics it blows almost all the 3080 laptops almost completely out of the water while they cost over 1000$ more than the Asus G15 Advantage... All I'm saying is that if you wait a bit you can buy the same product but it will give you A LOT more performance for your money just by paying a hundred or two hundred more $ for the MUX switch... That's my logic of course... but I do strongly believe that these first ones are not worth it because they're good laptops but with hardware inside that could make GREAT laptops...

the best thing about MSI laptops is the mentioned possibility to enter advanced BIOS settings. Thanks to this, you can replace the default memory modules, e.g. for 3200 CL16 and load this XMP / DOCP profile in the BIOS
I can attest to this laptop overheating. I just got the Delta 15 with the 6700M two weeks ago and I had to drop the performance down to medium and increase the rpm of the fans. It was odd that the CPU was not hitting high % usage, but it was still overheating (in New World). I haven't tried the laptop in other games yet (only have played on it for a few hours). I was getting 93+ temps for both CPU and GPU prior to this and it shut off twice. The first time it wasn't sure what happened, until I felt how insanely hot certain spots were. The second time told me I didn't adjust the settings enough (I was still on high performance but with the fans cranked up... wasn't enough). After my changes I can keep the GPU and CPU below 90.
Same here. The high temperatures of the laptop are insane, 95C +. I also had to lower the performance so that the laptop does not have these temperatures, and I am in temperatures between 65 and 75 C. In some games, the performance drops more than in others. At least Warzone, it runs 123 FPS with high graphics and temperatures of 69 C or so. In other games if it goes much lower.
Hey Jarrod! As you know, the GPU is the most important component in a gaming laptop (if though the CPU and other components matter too). Therefor, would you make videos determining best overall gaming laptops that come out with each of the RTX (and also RX) graphic cards? Making thrice_yearly videos about that would be great. By the way, thanks for your videos.
Price is the most important consideration when buying a laptop, not what GPU the laptop uses. It would be way better to compare the best laptops in each price bracket.
@@johnm91326 That's true, but if you know what are the best rtx 3050, 3060, 3070, and 3080 gaming laptops, you would also know the best gaming laptops for each budget; so it does do the same; doesn't it?
@@Ren-n1z Price varies drastically between different laptops with the same GPU. Ives seen the cheapest 3070 laptops go for less than the most expense 3050 ti ones.
I just got this laptop used for $850 USD and it’s basically brand new. I noticed when I saved the bios file from gpu-z and put it into Morepowertool it had a tdp cap of 80w which was weird since in your video it says 95-120w. I put it to 120w and went from a 9200ish 3dmark score to 10300. Pretty awesome the extra headroom this gpu has.
@@sunsetvlable unfortunately I cannot I use the controller because ei have limited desk space and can't use a mouse. I know jarrod showed the thermals while playing games and doing stress tests. I would check his out and see for yourself.
@@sunsetvlable I noticed the upper part above the keyboard could get a little warm but the WASD keys were perfectly usable. The gpu surprisingly enough didn't get much higher than maybe 80-85 degree range with 120w tdp. Of course it only goes to 120w if needed and the CPU with a -100mv undervolt got to low 90 while playing Hogwarts legacy running around outside of the Hogwarts ground where the cpu really is use for all the environment
The performance is pretty good, i did not expect that! Only that screen wobble and keyboard flex make it look a little cheap. Watching your video's is addicting. Lol.
@@gamingdragon1356 that's true, I love the battery life and portability of it. I just thought with amd trying to compete with Nvidia they would have tried to keep the prices low.
@@Syko1985 I don't know but the 6700m is technically competing with the 3070 so it's good for a mobile 3070 competitor I guess. But since none of AMD GPU's have a mux switch the picture distorts as such the asus Amd Strix advantage edition laptop doesn't have the mux switch as well but with a ram upgrade and an external GPU the 6800m = 3080 in 1080p while being about 6 percent behind in 1440p while beating many low powered 3080's. So maybe the 6700 may have better performance with an external screen as well. Which is why AMD thinks it deserves the price. Again we don't even have the benchmarks on RT with FSR on AMD GPUs. The laptop scene is really fuzzy.
This version of Jarrod's Tech does come with a bit of hands wobble in the credits section, but is pretty nice and stable while viewing the rest of the video. Added to the great information spread about the laptop, while short and on point, makes it a definite recommendation. :D
I love how the top 15 gaming laptops with good battery life were all AMD machines Unless Intel steps up their battery life game I ain't buying them any time soon.

@@leylintempest1714 only problem I have encountered was the software for the MSI center wasn't downloaded correctly. I just deleted it the software and re-download and did the proper update and it works flawlessly.

For a Zephyrus competitor I find this screen and built quality kinda lacking. If prices are similar I would pick G15 1440p 165hz panel with almost 100% (95 or smth) dci-p3 rather than this 1080p panel with 70%, but to each their own I guess.
@@grihoriko8800 yeah, I find Zephyrus laptops better as well. But there aren't that many slim designs (they exist, e.g. Legion has slim laptops this year as well, but are harder to come by than normal versions), so depending on the pricing and availability, this could compete. For real, though. Why all other laptops can try to emulate macbook's simple design, but gaming laptops can't? Just put your components into a simple, bulky chasis from a 2011 15-inch Mac Pro, improve air flow (but please, don't use honeycomb shapes for it :/) and it should be fine.
@@sp0el because Macbook-style design is not really good for gaming laptop. The closest we can get is Razer Blade, and even then they only look similar to Macbook on the outside (the internal is vastly different, with Razer having to implement vapor chamber to cool it properly). When you choose the style over the cooling system, chances are the laptop will get overheat/throttled very quickly. Multimedia/ultrabook can get away with overheating because not many users will run both CPU and GPU at high load for a long duration. Gamers however constantly put the pressure on hardware
@@ucle9955 I dont know, but imo m16 have a great style AND a good cooling system so you wont be getting more than 85 degrees on your CPU under very heavy load. I think if you pick style over cooling these days, you mostly loose in performance (**cough** ...60-80wt GPU TDP... *cough*), not cooling capabilities.
@@grihoriko8800 but it is because of cooling sacrifice that manufacturers have to use lower wattage GPU. The price for every, well, let's just say RTX3060, is the same - so the cost doesn't matter here. So really, we still have to pick side (for now, hopefully)
Thanks for your great in-depth reviews, Jarrod! One question, are you going to switch to the newer Puget benchmarks for Davinci Resolve v17 anytime soon? I think most people are on v17 now, and the benchmark results between v16 and v17 are completely different.
I have tested it on a few things, but I'm waiting to have a big enough sample of results before changing over for videos. I also have encountered quite a few issues running it, so it hasn't been a priority yet.
Just a shot story, I had my GE75 pasted with LM from HID evolution and after some temp problems I had with their application I had to repaste and after an hour of cleaning and repasting I close everything I try to turn it on and not a single sign of life. Started panicking and thought I killed the machine took me a min and said maybe I need to plug the charger in, Worked normally and it just finished its second year of service running like a champ. So if you open your MSI laptop always remember the charger is needed for the first boot after disassembly
If you have the time, we would really like to see your recomendations for engineering laptops. Some of us use the laptop only for solidworks, catia, etc... and rearly play any games
When it comes to graphic cards, they do not behave the same way while gaming as they do when editing video or something else. In gaming you have very rapid changes that you may not have editing a photo. A 3D animations are a different story. If you have a large 3D simulation that you created in solidworks or autocad it may not require such rapid frame changes but will require something else. I very much enjoy this channel but have found that 95% of content is gaming related. I personaly use my laptop almost exclusively for enignnering and never play any games. So it would be a great idea if Jarrod could make a video about this kind of laptops, or at least give us some guidelines as what to look for in an enginnering laptop.

Coming from MSI GS65 2018, I have come to realize that I hate the flipped motherboard. It was an issue when one of the ram sticks died, and I had to assemble and disassemble the whole thing twice to test the ram sticks one by one. It's a bit of a weird choice, really. Acer Triton 500 was pretty much the same thing as the GS65, but it had a normal motherboard

Hi Jarrod huge fan of the channel! Planning to buy my first laptop and im torn between the lenovo legion 5 (3060m) and this one since it’s on sale for 1299 would you recommend this over the legion 5 for the current sale price? Also worried about the thermals. More power to the channel!
Hey Sir Jarrod, is it possible if you compare the performance on laptops with Ryzen 5600U & Rtx 3050, like Acer Swift X with any gaming laptops which have Ryzen 5600H and similar specs. I am curious whether the difference in performance is worth for the long battery life on Ryzen U series please?🙏
Not having a mux switch is a plus for me, you get insane battery life! I don't want to use a powerful dedicated graphics when I'm only browsing the web or watching videos, for a portable device battery life is the most important feature, meanwhile Smart Shift works nicely when dedicated GPU is needed.
A mux can only be a good thing in a laptop, literally no downsides. Performance? Switch to dgpu mode. Battery life? Switch to hybrid mode. Literally a click and a restart to do.
I feel like the only true issue holding me (and maybe some other people) from jumping onto buying this laptop is the fact it has flipped mobo. As you have pointed out, having faster x8 memory is quite important these days and to my knowledge, opening it up and checking the sticker is the only way to tell. Furthermore, I don't like OEMs putting in slow PCIe 3.0 SSD which is why having easy access and options is important for me. I would be speccing out the lowest I can get, like a 8GB+512GB storage option and then I'd use the money saved to upgrade with my own drives and larger RAM as that's sometimes a cheaper option than outright buying the 16GB +1TB. Other than that, the MSI Delta 15 is truly shaping out to be a reasonably worthwhile buy
Kudos for doing a quick Linux test on this laptop! Love the design, not too keen on the pricing, and what's with that bottom bezel on the screen? It's HUGE!! Is it designed for Post-it notes?
Hi Jarrod from Chicago and thanks for a great video review! I tried the advanced Bios keys but nothing changes. Is the a specific sequence or pattern how to do it?

Have you done a 6600m review? If not, I understand that it’s hard to produce these kind of videos. I think many people would like to a see the 6600m Lenovo legion 5. Video idea??
Why won't any company make a serious gaming laptop with the 6800m? I mean just having some basics like a MUX switch, a QHD screen and preferably 16" or more. Like a quality gaming laptop. I would buy it. Many would.
Hey this is a great review and i think i am gonna get this laptop but one reason i want a better one is to plug my quest 2 into do you know if this supports having a quest 2 hooked up to it via link cable

Hi, I want to know whether I should buy this laptop (msi delta 15) or the latest msi stealth 15m that comes with i7-1260p . Your reply will be appreciated 🙏
I bought the delta. I’m happy with it so far. I would recommend a cooling pad for it if you use it on your lap. Or raise the rear of the device to get better airflow. I put 7 days to die on ultra and it ran well. After about 45-1hr I noticed I didn’t have it plugged in, it used about 50% of the battery. 😂 I’ve surmised … 3060
Hey Jarrod, I'm looking to upgrade my ram on my delta 15 and I was looking in the BIOS and didn't see an option to enable docp. when you changed the ram did it auto enable? not sure if im missing something. docp is usually under overclocking in the msi bios, but that tab wasn't present and couldnt find it in the advanced mode either.
Maybe, but my 5i is 11400H, so it would be 6 core vs 8 core, and my 5i is 17", so yeah not the best comparison. I've already compared Intel and AMD 6 and 8 core options fairly though so that might answer your questions.
Any recommendations for the Ram ?, I'm going to utilize the second M.2 slot to store my games so while I'm in there I'd like to upgrade the ram so I have no need to open it up for a second time. Mine came with a western digital SN540 1TB, going to put in a 2TB M390 from MSI for game storage, I'm not sure of the ram specs / brand though, other then it's 16G 3200.
I still have no idea why MSI offers only 1 year warranty for MSI DELTA. This is what worries me the most as I think that after 1 year of usage, problems would occur any second.
A GS66 with AMD solution would be superb. But for now MSI still reserve their most premium design for Intel + nVidia (kinda weird since they're pushing a lot of full AMD models since last year)
Hey Jarrod. If you can, will you compare Linux vs Windows gaming? (with EAC being compatible with Linux made me think this might actually be it for me to fully switch to Linux. Only/main reason I'm using Windows is because that's the only platform that is mature for gaming, setting aside the Adobe suite.) I know it isn't that mature right now but it also has come a long way and it would be really awesome if you would consider comparing the two in the future. Just wanted to know your thoughts as well. Hope you have a great day/night :)
Finally, I got the money to buy Legion 5 (2020), Ryzen 7 4800H, 1RX8 16GB, 256GB SSD + 1TB 870evo SATA SSD, 144Hz +4m/s Display and GTX 1660Ti for $ 1.6K, here in Nepal.
Im not using this games but for music production. The only game I play regularly is train simulator. I need storage and ram for music. Is this a good computer for this?????
Dang, the way to open it up to upgrade is kinda intimidating. Maybe the upcoming Lenovo Legion in the Advantage edition would be a better pick(if not for the price).

Did you use linux on it
the best thing about MSI laptops is the mentioned possibility to enter advanced BIOS settings. Thanks to this, you can replace the default memory modules, e.g. for 3200 CL16 and load this XMP / DOCP profile in the BIOS
What does this do exactly for ur laptop?
How did you adjust the settings to low performance? I'm having the same issues

I just got this laptop used for $850 USD and it’s basically brand new. I noticed when I saved the bios file from gpu-z and put it into Morepowertool it had a tdp cap of 80w which was weird since in your video it says 95-120w. I put it to 120w and went from a 9200ish 3dmark score to 10300. Pretty awesome the extra headroom this gpu has.
Hi! Can you say about temperature on keyboard when in perfomance mode? Is it too high or normal for typing?
Just bought a Delta 15 and found your channel! Also happy to know you're an Aussie fellow! Cheers for your great tech review mate!
The performance is pretty good, i did not expect that!
Only that screen wobble and keyboard flex make it look a little cheap.
Watching your video's is addicting. Lol.
Yeah I think that's just generally the case with MSI's thinner models like this, seems to basically be the same chassis design as the GS66
I was expecting it to be a lot more cheaper than that tbh. My 3070 Legion 5 pro was cheaper.
It is more expensive than the 6800m with 5900hx but maybe because it's designed to be portable while still giving a decent gaming performance.
All aluminum thin and light build though.
It’s $1300 rn on Best Buy
This version of Jarrod's Tech does come with a bit of hands wobble in the credits section, but is pretty nice and stable while viewing the rest of the video. Added to the great information spread about the laptop, while short and on point, makes it a definite recommendation. :D
I love how the top 15 gaming laptops with good battery life were all AMD machines
Unless Intel steps up their battery life game I ain't buying them any time soon.

@@Itowle9 The screen is immaculate. Frame rate is very good and image is crystal clear on all AAA games. It is a great choice laptop
@@baseballjc94 Hell yeah Lucas. What was your second choice?
We really do need more All-AMD laptops like the Strix Advantage that are reasonably priced.
I guess if people buy them companies will be likely to make more.
I had bought ae, it had good ram but the software bugs were too much to handle, and also thermal throttling, and now that I finallyyyy got refunded, I booked and legion 5 pro 3070.
So a Zephyrus G15 competitior? I kinda dig this ~2010 rounded Macbook like design, remove the stickers and you have an aesthetically pleasing laptop.
Thank you for the tip about powering after upgrade - saved me a call to MSI!
Thanks for the comprehensive and entertaining review :)
Definitely gonna consider this one.
I do use whatever my company will toss at me...
Numpad, dedicated graphics (even as low as 1650 GTX), 16gb ram, ssd. Plenty of people (including me) with cheap gaming laptops

It is tedious. But that's the caveat of having big air vent on back cover. Just giving a little extra protection from water damage.

Try again
I have this laptop had it for over a year now and it has been a damn good computer
