The Hammer Trails, which are located in Johnson Valley, CA, are legendary for having some the toughest and most demanding Jeep trails in the world. In this short video, you will see highlights from run we did with our good friend Jeff (gonegoannas) up one of the easier of the Hammer Trails known as, Clawhammer. Rated a 4 by the Victor Valley 4 Wheelers, Clawhammer is a short trail but still quite demanding and one that really should be done in a Jeep JK Wrangler that is equipped with at least 35" tires, lockers front and rear and of course, a good set of rocker guards.
Your video's keep me from chomping at the bit too much between my visits to the trail. Thanks to you guys my wife is completely on board to get a Jk as her trail rig. Keep up the good work!
I was out there this last weekend, its a great place to wheel. Claw Hammer was one of the more mild trails we wheeled, but still makes for a good time.
Another video, another favourite, another family guy episode deleted to fit this on the iPhone.
Love 'em. Thanks for the time and effort.
Claw Hammer is insane!
I can hardly beleive you guys made it with just a little scratch. It really is a testament of how built & stout your rigs are, as well as driver skill.
There's a whole lotta 'Happy Pedal' action in there... :)
@zeLc thank you and we're glad that you enjoyed the video :)
@adigalben thanks! we're glad that you enjoyed it :)
thanks guys, that really helps me have a better understanding on how auto and manual are different when using them for off roading.
@a96bimmerm3 thank you - glad you liked it :)
I love all your vids. Ive been looking for a new jeep for awhile and these are exactly what i wanna see when i look up jeep vids. Keep on keepin on
@MaximD9 don't need to be doing anything crazy to have a good time - just need to get out. glad you like the video :)
@ssstefano1970 thanks scott, i really do appreciate the kind words and i'm glad to know that our websites and write-ups have been helpful to you.
another fine video. that black JK is a real rock kicker.
@lovedavdubs LOL!! yeah, that's my old TJ and yes, that was a write-up that I did a few years back. glad it was helpful to you :)
Another awesome video! Your videos make me want to take my JK out wheeling right now. Keep up the great work!
@pavonaiser glad that you like the video :)
man those beautiful machines can take a beating!!
Awesome!!! I've been to busy breaking my jeep to get out there with you guys, but I'll go soon, looks sweet!!!!
@rawflesh14 an auto is a lot easier to wheel. the white JK in this video is a manual but, we've always wheel manuals and are use to it. the JK's have an ETC so a basic hand throttle will not work but, learning how to use your e-brake on tougher obstacles will help out a lot.
I am going insane with my TJ. It is a way of Life!!!
@TRBO1717 glad to hear it, thanks!
Major props to the black Rubi for making it through that trail with a 4dr and 35's. Johnson valley is not for the faint of heart.
@Tdaz250 actually, the wheels are black but the bead lock ring is silver. if you've ever seen how beat up they are, you would know why we purposefully left them silver :)
@JoK3R4L1F33 glad you liked it :)
@FordMustangGTRocks unfortunately, we sold our built 81 CJ7 a couple of years back. glad you like the videos just the same.
dude your next tire option has got to be the BFG KM2. with its linear flex zones you'll be able to crawl your way over all of those rocks with the tires aired down. besides that you have the most bad ass jeep i have yet seen! all of your videos are great and i can't wait for new ones
@Josephus1 funny thing is, clawhammer is one of the easiest of the hammer trails too. you should see what jackhammer, sledgehammer and the rest look like 8)
@spartusseven LOL!! glad you enjoyed it :)
Just amazing, love your videos guys, keep it up!
@JKKuffaar of all the tires i have run, toyo's are the only tire that i've NEVER had problems with sidewall damage. granted, they are E range tires and, even with zero psi, they will still look like they have air in them. a real tough and great tire.
@caressofsteel7 LOL!! that's awesome - we're way flattered that you'd watch our video over another show :)
@accz71 awesome!! when you get out here, let us know - you'll have to join us on some runs :)
@wayalife wow man those Toyo's your running must have a serious sidewall strengthen. Nice Video as always! Happy Wheeling!
wow, this makes my off road vids look wimpy! Great Vid, Man! Keep it up!
i feel like i have seen this before.
oh wait, i have..
50 times.
GREAT VIDS. KEEP EM UP. I HOPE ONE DAY TO JOIN YOU GUYS WHEN I GET MY MODS GOIN.
Beautiful, just beautiful,
@msiordie44 relatively new but really, he's a good driver. even with lockers, you're at a disadvantage with 35's and a little extra gas is what's needed to get up some of the obstacles.
@JKKuffaar the white JK was riding at 8 psi and the black JK at about 12 psi.
great stuff as always. Keep it up guys!
@holbrook11b LOL!! that's awesome and glad to hear it :)
@chrisman324 hahaha, we love our jeeps so much that in some ways, we feel that our videos are already commercials for them.
@mfresh42 depends on how big of a tire you're hoping to run. for 37's, sure, the TF long arm kit is nice. if you're planning on running 35's, you don't even need the long arms. regarding the speed bumps, unless you plan on running hard and fast through the desert all the time, i might save your money on them and just run the lift as is.
another great video!!! keep it up! moving to SoCal shortly, hope to be able to join you guys sometime!
just discovered your channel and watched quite a few of your vids. very cool!!
thx for uploading from a long time "crawler". =D
@4x4tweak that's because we were in a Jeep! :)
@ThortyS i do apologize for the trouble and will see what we can do about coming out with "euro-versions"
@rawflesh14
Go for an auto. But if you're bent on a Manual be prepared to swap in lower gears in the pumpkins. You want low enough gears so the engine wont stall in the rocks. Another tip would be to add a hand throttle so you can work the clutch when you have to stop on steep inclnes.
@volleybrian on the black JK, they were :)
@Stuka87 jeff is awesome on this trail and made it all the way up without needing a strap up or a winch
wonderful !
thanx fellas !
@ajuarezh ummm, we do use seatbelts and live by that principle. in fact, we didn't, you would hear the JK go ding ding ding in the videos :)
@rawflesh14 wheeling an auto is so much easier than a manual and if you're relatively new to jeepin, i would recommend it.
@ruquik probably was - he has an e-disco and it might have been turned off by accident at that point.
@Dwealdric LOL!! nice to know we can take the spot of family guy ;)
Another great video...
At 2:35 it looks like he comes an inch from smashing his rear glass, but it might have been the angle...
always a great vid
They make it look so easy. :-)
Nice editing. Dynatrack 60's on both ends are pricey....
Waiting for a vid of Outerlimits...
@Tdaz250 LOL!! that and a set of off road evolution rock skins :)
i like how the wayalif jeep never gets stuck lol it just keeps goin but you know what jeep stands for?
Just
Empty
Every
Pocket
x2 on the big bear trip... I'm dieing to get out there!
@OIIIIOFanatic it's really hard to say as we went through a lot of changes before we got to where we are now... maybe 40k
@ayemrgibbs it's a bestop trektop :)
@ajuarezh ah ha! i see what you are saying. don't know what happend here but normally, he does buckels up.
great vid
@theoriginalmodz thanks :)
@OdaConnProductions LOL!! thank you
@thecoolbluereason no, it was pretty close.
@jeepmeat13574 well, let us know when you do come over to the US :)
@Adrian00702 thank you
@Stuka87 XJs have been running the hammers for almost 10 years on 33's. Look up SOCALXJ and NAJA. I've run Sledge, Outer Limits, Claw, Big Johson, Sunbonnet, Wreckingballl with my XJ on 33's and later 35's. Its fun but expensive.
One guy ran Claw with 33's and one rear locker.
Nice seeing the 4 dr Rubis jeeps out there. If I had the money I'd buy one.
Well, my son saw your new video and we had to DVR Hawaii Five-O so we could put Clawhammer up on the Plas. Great job, Cindy! You too Eddie. (-; After it was over, the wife wanted to watch the Rubicon series, again, this was like our 6th time watching it. Still awesome. Did TrailBud get his front dif replaced? Kind of odd for a dif housing to fail so badly when no apparent damage seemed to be the cause. Ever figure that mystery out? Flaw in the tubing maybe? Rock on guys! (-:
@phillipsryan73 it's what they're made for :)
@XxLittlePearlxX yup, it sure it :)
very nice!!! yall need 2 do some cj vids if yall hav any cjs but i love these vids alot. keep it up
@kjsdad21 awesome! i would hope they would want you to take your JK out :)
@OfficerSheepDog LOL!! well, i'm i sure i could but with WOLette, it's a different story ;)
@lamarfamar HAHAHA!! it's them mud grapplers - they literally grab on to everything
Hey guys, incredible video (as always) just one suggestion, USE SEAT BELTS!!! Just because we want to watch more videos like this for a long time...and for your own safety as well!!
@ajuarezh as wayalife said, I always wear a seat belt, and honestly don't recall ever not wearing one or off the the trail
@wolfhound802 LOL!! pretty crazy, huh ;)
@phillipsryan73 LOL!! that awesome
great vid's, but i i've seen lots of rocks and desert, and some tree's, but i've not seen you guys in the mud like we have have up here in the PNW. Would like to see how you guys do in the mud.
@wayalife That is true. I forget you are running 40s.
@slayer58931 thank you :0
This guy always do cool videos.
PS. Why is it every were I look there is a Chemtrail in the air? Jeez
@Tdaz250 to each their own i suppose :)
2:22 DAMN!
@kowz4u LOL!! yeah, you can say that again.
Rawflesh14 & gumbee78 same household my wife must have logged my out when went to go get beer! LOL
@ 3:40 it seems like the front end is still hooked to the swaybar. The Pass frront doesn't seem to compress at all.
@wayalife I'm glad it is a principle, I believe you; just check minute 3:14-3:25 gonegoannas without it.
To me the 2 door is still better, because in this trail a 4 door is more cumbersome and awkward trying to get around rocks like that in a twisty trail.
if you guys wver head to big bear let me know. iv been dying to take my XJ out there.
You never fail to impress. Is the guy in the black jk new to wheelen? I dont remember seeing him and he seems to have a bit of a heavy foot. Not trolling just wondering thats all.
@wayalife Do you happen to know what components you have sitting on it now as far as drivetrain and suspension. I have been going back and forth on what I will purchase when I return to the states, and your jeep has an excellent look, so I'd like to price it out to the best I can. Do you recall is the 40K what is on the jeep now or everything you have ever done to it? I may just upgrade my RHD cherokee, but the jk is quite a bit nicer in so many ways. Thanks for your help and sweet videos!!
mr.mudgrappler was really doggin it
So "JK" doesn't mean a rubicon then eh? I always thought it did. Guess its only that model of jeep? I'm only asking since you said you need a JK with front and rear lockers. Rubi's have those stock correct? Thnx
some 4x4s sling mud, JK's sling bolders
hey guys! great vid. I just purchased a TJ sport and I am interrested in turning it into a mean rock crawler/ mudder, what are some essential parts and upgrades? if you could respond at all it would be much obliged. Thanks
Hope those aren't the stock D44's!
