@@benridin1259 ... I'm not defending Skydio, at all, but they're not using "shady politics" to improve anything. Elise Stefanik is using typical American politics, to try and impress the former Cheeto in charge. The last two presidents, and whoever wins this election, are all in favor of easing away from globalization, which started under the last admin. The first goal of making this transition deals with China, and slowly becoming less dependent on their exports, if we move too fast, it will shock our economic stability because we're still in the process of building the infrastructure to be able to do it ourselves. Just this past July, the U.S., UK, and Australia placed massive tariffs on over 1200 Chinese products, many of them electronics, and that's just the beginning, plus the U.S. is by far not the only country to ban drones from China.
Skydio just happened to have someone that pays attention to geopolitics and such things and saw the writing on the wall, so they're doing everything they can to put their thumb on the scale that will speed the process up, and knock China/DJI out of the picture, it has nothing to do with "DJI winning". Now is Skydio's involvement illegal or break any fair competition laws?....Nope. Is it a little bit of a punk a$$ move, or unethical in anyway? I would argue that most people would agree that it most definitely is. But I would also argue that's a Tuesday, before lunch, in the world of American corporate capitalism, happens ALL the time.
Doesn't really matter, China is facing a total and catastrophic collapse, first economically then societal, by the end of this decade, so one way or another, unless an outside company scoops up the whole DJI operation, they will vanish as a company regardless of this ban happening or not.

I had a very nice job at one point, up until the company I worked for *insisted* that I use a prototype Skydio drone they were testing. I had to manually fly it, and the input delay was completely unworkable. The connection was via wifi, and it dropped constantly. When I refused to fly the drone, since it wasn't fit for purpose and everyone else on the job got superior - and cheaper - DJI tech, I was shown the door. Skydio being behind this is salt in the wound.

Uncle Sam may be allowed but Uncle Bill will get in *big* trouble if he deliberately deploys such tech to keep pesky drones out of his back yard. The FCC is kind of funny when it comes to people deliberately interfering with other users of the radio-waves, even on ISM bands.

They actually know there are absolutely no national security issues with DJI drones, so they will never do those DJI drones "inspections". It's just big US manufacturers like Skydio, that have friends in the Gov, and want those laws passed, so they can have a closed market with only their drones available, which they can then sell for much more money than the Chinese competition.

Please stop with that narrative, Trump did a lot to hurt proper legal immigration, that we desperately need right now, by making it harder for even the most upstanding highly educated immigrants to move to our country, much less asylum seekers, which is unconstitutional and against the law of the land to cage them or turn them away, such as Dubya, Obama, Trump and Biden have done the last 20+ years.
Stop pretending that the Biden admin opened any borders, he doubled down on Trumps border policy by extending Title 42 until May of 2023, and when he finally did end it, he replaced it with something more strict. Every single metric across the board using the same exact statistical data used by the previous admin, shows that 2021- July of 2024, there was a considerably increase in border agents, boarder engagements with undocumented persons has doubled, the amount of people awaiting an immigration hearing and/or being held near the border has almost doubled, meaning less people are sneaking in unnoticed.
The only "border crisis" we're having is not enough judges and staff members to process all the people trying to get in legally, which a bill was proposed that had bipartisan support and would have changed all that, and also been the most intensive and restrictive border policy every passed, and had many leftists quite upset with Biden for even saying he'd sign it, but low n behold the former Cheeto in Charge told his maga legislative cult member to vote no on it because it might make sleepy Joe look good if it passed!

Recently the U.S. dept of commerce threatened to ban all consumer sales unless Kaspersky made certain changes in their operations which they refused to do, so U.S. sales will cease. I recently wrote to my two senators and representative in Hawaii about the Countering CCP Drone Ban. To my surprise, all three responded. They’re all Democrats, and they admitted they haven’t seen any evidence that DJI drones pose a national security threat on a consumer level. However, they were told otherwise, and apparently, that’s all they need to know.
As a US Army service member with over 22 years of experience, I operate DJI drones and have firsthand experience with the overpriced Skydio X2, which the Army uses. The X2 doesn’t come close to matching the capabilities of the DJI Mavic in terms of transmission range and battery life, yet it costs upwards of $30,000. It’s a scam.
Despite my insights, they essentially dismissed my concerns, implying that because I’m not a senator or congressman, I don’t know what I’m talking about. Well, if they don’t have concrete evidence either, it seems they’re just as uninformed. The difference is I’m not gullible.
In the end, all three expressed their full support for banning DJI. It’s clear that Skydio has a strong grip on Hawaii’s political representatives. Unfortunately, this doesn’t bode well for DJI.

His MOS was intel/surveillance, as well as one of my crewmates at the fire dept, but with the Army, and while they couldn't go into detail, obviously, they did say Chinese drones absolutely do pose a national security risk, but.... followed that by stating it's not what most people think the issue would be, and that personally they didn't think that reason warrants a ban at all, and that it smells political to them.
Now, without turning this into a novel, the last 3 presidents, and whoever wins this election, are all in favor of easing away from globalization, and trump actually started some of those wheels in motion, and believe it or not, sleepy Joe agreed and kept it going. The first goal of making this transition deals with China, and slowly becoming less dependent on their exports, but we have to be careful, if we move too fast, it will shock our economic stability because we're still in the process of building the infrastructure to be able to do it ourselves. Just this past July, the U.S., UK, and Australia placed massive tariffs on over 1200 Chinese products, many of them electronics, and that's just the beginning, plus the U.S. is by far not the only country to ban drones from China. As far as the ban, that was something started by
Elise Stefanik, who's had a stick up her butt about drones for years now, and also thought any legislative diss to China would improve her chances that Trump would pick her over JD Vance for his running mate. The reason the rest of congress and Biden had no problem with the bill moving right along unopposed is because it plays perfectly into what they're already trying to implement without having to issue another tariff. You, know, on the down low, as to not seem like the president is piling on too much.
Not saying I'm 100% correct, but been on injury leave for a while then retired out a few years early, so I've been following this whole thing like a hawk, just my two cents in the end though. Have a good day and be safe out there!

I agree with your concerns regarding the proposed bans on DJI. However, your credibility was diminished by making that “mask” comment at the end of the video. It has nothing to do with the DJI ban. It only serves to alienate any lawmakers that may see this video. I have appeared before a few subcommittees in my younger years regarding export regulations and high technology. Comments by myself regarding, for instance, the pot holes that never seen to get repaired would have diluted the primary message that I was there to present.

We now live in the era of fear mongering. Logic and civil analysis of matters has no currency. Companies like Skydio may not be able to produce market competitive products, but they know they can buy politicians and stoke the fears of the masses to eliminate competition as opposed to stepping up to the plate.
Unfortunately, too many drone pilots out there will vote to support those running on a platform based in fear. "We have met the enemy ... and it is us." - Pogo

It’s legal to fly over private property, and it’s illegal to shoot down someone’s drone. If someone is spying on you or invading your privacy, that’s different. Also, there are SOOOOO many people illegally flying, because they dont have a trust, or even registered drones. People just launching in the middle of a room full of people..
I think that it should be regulated better, and you should have to register the drone when you purchase it, at least, if the FAA dictates all aircraft that can be flown in its airspace, then they should have better systems in place.
Fun fact, those $10 garbage drones you buy as a toy at Walmart, yeah, you need to have a trust certificate to fly those..

Well said sir! We are paying the price for decades of little to no Federal investment in the American people and the industries that promote development in the "high tech component" marketplace. That's what has allowed the Asian producers to quasi corner the market by pushing an ever growing technological lead. The funny thing is, we have better tech design and software than any other country being used in our military, but to get comparable tech at the commercial level it would cost a fortune if all the components were sourced only from the US and it's allies. It's part of a global trade war, and our leaders opted on the side of greed and the US corporations instead of the American people which are now going to pay the price.

Compliance with RID has been very low. Whilst DJI may be complying, a raft of other drones can be purchased with either no RID or without the SRID that the regulations demand. Despite the SRID rule being in effect for well over a year and countless examples of non-compliant drones still being sold -- not a single prosecution. Go figure.

The real reason is exactly as you say - the US economy is increasingly reliant on DJI so at any time the CCP can impose an economic sanction on the USA which would affect huge sectors of the economy, simply by restricting the use of their systems. Also, there’s 💯 been compromised user data leaks as well as undisclosed data mining software that aggregates and analyses user data - go talk to anyone that is a software security specialist, or even anyone outside of DJI.

The threat posed by DJI drones MIGHT be valid, but it pales in comparison to the threat from the VASTLY higher quantity of smartphones out there. Plus, my (and most people's) smartphones are powered up 24/7. My DJI drone is powered up less than 1% of that time. The threat from DJI drones is a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of the threat from smartphones.

It's illegal in the US to use type of signal jamming equipment, not allowed to have it, buy it'; use it or even sell t in the US. $100K fine for each offense, may be cheap to buy but don't get caught using it and many States also have similar laws. I doubt there will be any possibility of a private citizen owning a signal blocker without extreme risk.

    • @richardmurray1655

The excuse given by politicians for banning DJI drones is that they pose a national security risk. Presumably that DJI drones can engage in surveillance activities at sensitive US sites like military bases or test facilities. The military has the jamming devices and authority to use them. Private citizens don't play a role in this.

I’ll stick with science untainted by politics, but I have the benefit of a partner with 30+ years of experience in infectious diseases and reduction methods. It is the people who wander outside their areas of expertise that believe DJI is a threat to US security. Masking is no different in that regard.

Nobody ever says that for dji to be able to sell their products in the USA the federal government has to approve their individual product. So if the government really didn’t want dji products in our country then the federal government would not give dji the approval. One of the requirements our government place on dji drones was to make our government capable of retrieving the information on our drones just like on our cell phones. Those who believe that Apple refused to open cell phones without a court order from our government are very ignorant. That whole show put on years ago was exactly that a show for the ignorant.

Their answer is YES. So we hurt them in the pocket ( banning DJI ). The U.S. cannot produce a drone, commercial or consumer, at DJI prices. What would we pay a tech, 30 or 40 an hour. The communists have a low pay structure. And that makes Chinese drones so affordable.
