In order to truly entice the employees back, employers must REDUCE the workload across the company. This is to compensate the commute time and also the inefficiency working in a distractive environment.
Im guessing employees are getting 90 percent of their work done in 1-2 days for the week. And the mandate only forces them to pretend to work, which is more exhausting than actually working.
there's nobody to police this either, as managers don't want to visit the office either. In my experience the idea of hybrid is also misunderstood. When thinking hybrid - employers thing they can mandate the dates when people are in the office. Whereas employees think it's at will basis - if (at all) they want, they can go to the office. Personally, regardless of the company policy, I don't control if anyone from my team is at the office, as long as they badge in and it looks good on the report. The efficiency of work at home is much higher. Also, I myself would accept 25% pay cut if I was allowed to work 100% remotely.
The next big tech companies will be those replacing all of these remote workers. We have replaced 100+ remote workers with remote workers in other countries. I’ve heard that the company has saved 300% in labor costs and the new remote employees are willing to 12 hours a day 7 days a week.
My brother-in-law found that while working outside the office he could complete his workweek in 24 hours.
As a director I don’t support mandated returns and won’t police my team
