1980 Hannah did a meet and greet at a shop in PHX. My parents wouldn't take me, so I called and ask for Bob Hannah.. He came to the phone and spoke to me and treated me like his number 1 fan.. For a 14 year old kid, it was an amazing memory. We talked about his broken leg and his hope to race some 4 wheel stuff while his leg healed.. The guy thanked me for calling and told me to take care.. Bob Hannah is the real deal and a genuinely great guy..
What a character and seems to be a great guy. Loved watching him when I was a kid. Great to see that he is doing well and loves talking about his motocross days. Great interview!! Thanks for doing it!!
I remember when Bob Hannah first came to Unadilla. In the back hill section. He got out of shape, hanging on WFO all the way, spread eagle, legs fully extended to either side. He saved it! Couldn't believe it! WFO all the way! At the 50th anniversary running of Unadilla, the trophies awarded were a depiction of what I saw that day. Maybe the artist who designed those trophies was standing right next to me!
Yeah he can really talk and give an interview, fun guy! True champion, I love that he has a humble realistic view about some of his competitors being better in situations.
Watch the 1978 Superbowl of Motocross video here on UA-cam. Bob finished second to Mike Bell, but Bob came from basically last place to finish second. I truly believe that no human being has ever ridden a motocross bike as fast as Bob Hannah did on that night. The guy was amazing. The thing is, he was so good that no matter what he says he is not bragging. I really enjoy listening to him.
Every word Bob speaks about Roger is EXACTLY what we thought of Him 👊 My Favorite Rider of All time. Absolute LEGEND ✊✌️ The HURRICANE HAS STRUCK 💪 Thnx for them memories Sir 😉 OLD G
Fantastic insight! I remember sitting on the floor as a kid, with a '73 XR75 at the time, and just being as close to the TV as I could, and watching Hannah in a race. One of those at the time, rarely televised national races. Not even sure what year it was. Might have been a Wide World of Sports episode. Way before cable, by possibly a decade.
I could probably name atleast a handful of guys from that era, I probably couldn't name one pro rider from today. Totally different world back then, so much fun.
Imagine if the sport had personalities like Bob today. I would love to hear rivalries that are out in the open. They are so politically correct and pleasing to their sponsors and team. A little more professional wrestling would sure make it fun and get me to actually care who wins.
Bob is clinically insane yet brilliant. Just one continuous rant about himself and he is golden. I forgot what the were selling but I will be looking it up after imake this comment.
DeCoster is the God of MX. Back in the early 90s I met him one snowy night in Seattle. He was team manager. He was at some motorcycle shop with Rick Johnson, there to meet fans. Because of the weather I was the only fan in the store. I talked with RD for about 20 minutes or so. A very nice guy.....
..me and Bob would have gotten along great.👍....I raced mx in fla about the same time..never as fast as hem..mabe if we were friends I could have done better but I started surfing and I was done with dirt bikes rather go to the beach surfing and chasing all the girls . I lived in daytona beach... Always had pit passes for the daytona supercross watched Bob and all the rest of the them race there every year... Those were definitely the good old days...Bob was definitely one of the very best...
Damn, I loved seeing him at the Pontiac Silverdome in 78'. My first experience of seeing the Hurricane, of course he had a crap start and beat the crap out of the competition!
There's a photo of BH back in the day that was on MX Action. I wish I could find that photo. I think it was at Unadilla. It was this steep drop off drop off into some deep pit and then a steep climb back up and out. Riders were going down and back up. BH decides to jump over the pit. I don't think any rider made an attempt. So many good photos back then.
watched the hurricaine vs howerton at southwick in 1981.pure epic battle for both motos!Howerton won but the best live racing i ever watched.mx, nascar whatever.these guys hated each other and the though the crowed was pro hannah there was fights afterwards in the stands between the fans(drunk of course)Back when "the Wick" had its own personality..."the frog pond","sky hook",top of the world".Plus if you were a local you never had to pay for admission...lol
Bob, I loved following you during your career. You have an awesome energy and drive. You ought to use that same drive to honorGod who put you on this earth, that's where you're going to really move ahead. Don't take my word for it, dig deep and don't listen to our crappy media who like to dirty anything good and honorable.
Bob I met in 1975 at the motor vehicles department in whitter california, i was a local pro. I torn my knee out totally reconstructed night racing at orange county night racing Nov-22-1974. Bob never got the chance to see or be around the greatest champion of them all Decosters team mate 6 time world motocross champion Joel Robert easily the greatest rider of all times. Bob should have copied Joel Robert.Joel Robert won 5 world titles in a row 68/69/70/71/72 beat the greatest riders on earth.
Wow he's the man that made me want to go fast. What is so unreal is there is actually explains a method to being the best. No great has told it so well that the average Joe can understand. Bob Hannah forever ❤️💙

These videos are cool. Get to hear my childhood heros talk about what I had to read about back then.
Absolutely brother. Amazing.

Classic Hannah. Up front and on the table. Good to hear you speak on old times Bob. Hope they run a part two.
Humble guy.
Straight shooter.
Arguably One of the best back in the day.🏁🏆

Love hearing Bob talk. I wasn't a fan back in the day but I sure respected him. I'd love to be able to watch some Tony D. videos like this!
this is literally priceless...

Hurricane is still the best motocrosser of all time. Bob was the inventor of fanning the clutch, brilliant motocross mad man
Bob is clinically insane yet brilliant. Just one continuous rant about himself and he is golden. I forgot what the were selling but I will be looking it up after imake this comment.

Had a 250 YZF in 1977. Amazing bike at the time.

Kent has a hemorrhoid... Hannah is a riot! 🤣😂
DeCoster and Hannah, those days, wish I would have been around back then...

Joel Robert didn't win 5 titles in a row, sorry u r mistaken
Bob was a bad maama jaama
@mharris867 Explains why you never took a shot at racing with the best.
You have to have that attitude in that type of competition, are your not gonna win.
It wasn't Tony D.
or jeremey mcgrath
How great? Marty Tripes should have eaten a piece of that sub sandwich on his fender before the gate dropped. :)
Bob, what do you think of this stupid scrub on every jump and bump??
I think that nearly everytime I watch these new cats riding. WTheck?! 🤣😂 🤣😂🤪😜
