Yes, it was a low key event taking place the day after the 2 day Qualifier. Us Canadian amateur riders caught wind of the clinic after the Qualifier and were grateful for the opportunity to observe.
Fond memories for me. I know many of the guys here Hatch smith hawkins.im an ECEA warrior "A" guy..saw these guys at many events. I think about racing every day...HANNAH teaching caps off a great video.thanx !
Late 80's, Hannah raced at OMC in Boise, ID. He had a young rider with him that he was training during the heat and final races. He stayed with that kid for what seemed like 80% of the final race. Then, with the flick of the wrist, Bob checked out. Never saw anyone ride that fast in person.
Bob was my hero, the europeans taught us how to ride then Bob learned enough that he went to europe and beat them, he rode on the ragged edge all the time !
I remember running into Bob riding with a group of skunk-stripe helmets (ISDE juniors?) at his high desert, 'secret' canyon stomping grounds around this same time.
Nice! Great riding area. I rode the 2 day qualifiers every year from 87 through the last one in 95. Fond memories. I have a copy of the Bad Rock movie shot in the area in the 70's. Hopefully you still have that Penton!!!
That's Tom Wolfman Webb and yes he did have a head of hair. Heck of a nice guy. Thanks for watching. Would love for Ping to get him on the Whiskey Throttle Show.
Yes. I remember seeing a Dealer Suzuki video featuring Bob and fellow Suzuki teammate Johnny O'Mara carving up a motocross track, sometime around 86 or 87? I remember them hauling in close proximity to each other. I wish I could find a copy of that video. Any dealers still have a copy?
Busta, forgive me that I do not have 30mins to watch your entire video. I hope to watch it in its entirety in the future. I wanted to ask if you wanted to join some of us Canadian MotoChannels on-line on Friday evening.? 🙂
I am not sure what part of Canadas you are in Busta Piston, I need to watch more of your videos... but just go to "Critter_moto" channel at 6pm Pacific Standard Time this Friday, Feb 24th. 🙂 Even if you go check-out his channel now that might help, as you should see a thumbnail of the on-line event saying it's coming on Friday.
You are allowed to invite other MotoChannels or viewer if you would like. My hope is that more of us discover your Channel 🙂Do you mind if I ask if you are in B.C.? I am in the city of Calgary... it's just 45mins West to my favorite Riding Grounds.
Talking about the perfect rider doing a 2" wheelie the whole track except for braking and turns reminds me of watching Villo lead Unadilla with his front wheel barely touching around the track.
Yes, I've read articles where Bob talks about that very perfect rider technique. My favorite story related to this is from a "Mr Know it All" column in Dirt Bike Magazine, back when Mr KIA Rondo Talbot (Rick Sieman's pseudonym) responds to a reader who is asking about making a dirt bike that accelerates automatically to achieve this 2 inch wheelie, and consequently brakes hard automatically to maintain a 2 inch "stoppie". Rondo's reply is priceless, in that he wants to see this prototype in action, on a steep bumpy downhill, and would like to be there with his video camera...........
I remember seeing Motoworld with Lechien, (maybe Unadilla?), banging gears down a straight after a corner, front wheel 3-6" off the ground until he had to let off the gas. Maybe perfect acceleration?
@@bustapiston2170 Rondo was abusive to the freshman in his replies, depending on how knowledgeable the question was. I was new in the sport in 76 and did not want to write to that guy. :) But, I caught "Mr. Know it all" wrong, with a question about a 1976 Kawasaki KD125 that sputtered. I can't remember what his answer was but I had that bike, and the problem was eroded points. I bet he thought it had CDI, as I think it was one of the last dirt bikes with points triggering the ignition. it was a great ego boost as a teen to know something "Mr. Know It All", did not know. :)

People pay reaaallll good money for this type of advise. Thanks for posting this.
Thank you for watching. Yes, Bob is a good coach with lots of experience and a great teaching style.
I had no idea Bob did this. Thank you for helping our Six Day effort.

I grew up in Tillamook. Trask was my "back yard." Back then (late 60s/early 70s) I had a Penton.
