NYC bike messengers and probably many others excel at split second timing, and when they decide to race in criteriums ,they lay down that smoke. I know many from bike tours and we had a lot of fun, even though my bikes always had 3477444 gears.

Yooo. You mind doing a video on gearing combinations. I ride 48 16 and looking for more top end mph but still want to be able to climb hills.
You’re best option is 49/15. To me it’s the best all around ratio but it can be a little heavy in traffic. I love it for long distance rides!

@@larryp85 this depends on your legs and skills my friend. what does topspeed mean to you if you can't hold it for more than 2 minutes. what does speed fundamentally does for you if you can't flow through city traffic?
@@BeastyBite I been riding fixed gear for over 10 years but always been 48/16. I'm not worried about getting around traffic. That's easy, you should see the hills I climb daily here in west ny. I just want more top end to keep up with my road bike buddies, while still being able to hill climb. I guess I'll try dropping my rear sprocket 1 tooth at a time until I find my limit.

They're completely fine to ride in cities, though you need to bring a patch kit just in case
