That film has been a favorite of mine since childhood, and the score always gave me goosebumps. I can say without hesitation that I felt those goosebumps once more watching this. Amazing job by all!
I wonder how many of the immaculately dressed young musicians realised the deep significance of this music representing the most critical period in the free world history. We could not have eventually prevailed without the overwhelming support of their antecedents.
Congratulations to all concerned. Fascinating that two UA-cam "go to" performances of this British
music should be from Russia and the USA. Cheers from the UK.
Absolutely brilliant 👏 👌.
Truly Inspiring! Well done to each and every player. Just totally awesome. Beautiful music, beautiful people and beautiful ideals. Much love from England.
Brilliant young orchestra! Fantastic performance.
My feelings on this piece are mixed. On one hand, I really like the first movement. On the other hand, the second movement has instilled me with trauma that I will most likely never recover from. I am literally panting for air at the end of the second movement every time we do a full run.
Bravo! ♡
A fine performance.
Quite possibly the best performance have heard of this on UA-cam. I fell in love with this piece the first time I heard it. The first 45 seconds never fail to give me goosebumps. Bravo!
The splendid finale which one also hears in Crown Imperial could be attributed to Igor Stravinsky under whom Walton studied. Listen to the finale of the Firebird Suite.
1:58 suave move by the 1st chair cellist
Absolutely brillant !! I am curious though : what made an american orchestra go for William Walton and the Spit ?
Don't forget the americans benefitted greatly from the gift of the Merlin engine design donated to them to help the war effort. So it's a fitting tribute , intended or not!
The reason any orchestra would play this prelude and fugue is that it’s brilliant. A great piece to open or close a concert.
So very British ........
4:00 fugue
a bit on the slow side
4:10 and I promised my girlfriend a violin...
Need MORE Trumpet... to sing over the orchestra.
