My Dad’s favourite piece of music (and, yes, a little slow - but still…😉): We walked into his funeral to this ☺️

I'm guessing this is one of the ones he composed after he studied with Grieg! It's absolutely amazing!

I enjoyed the performance...not too fast for my taste. Thanks to all involved.

So much of American film music in this, but written before 1900 I think, long before movies & talkies, also hear;- Prelude to 'Hassan' & also Irmelin' , 'Walk to a Paradise Garden', 'Summer Night on the River'
'Brigg Fair' , 'On Hearing first Cuckoo in Spring, &so much more, I mention this because I found as I studied & made notes and a sort of scrip way back in 1972'3 ish about so many virtual similarities while researching/studying (R. Wagners chords ), & quickly found Delius type scores from late 1880's to be the fore-runner of such, as Showboat, Porgy & Bess' George Gershwin, & so on. . I even have an old copy of George Shearing Piano solo "That Old Feeling" so close to, & what 40/50 years later ie :- '40's & 50's became known as Jazz chords. Not everyone's cup of tea, but for me , Delius=Genius.

Why? Frederick Delius towers over many more celebrated composers.

Its not at the right speed , it needs to be played just a tad faster, then it would have been perfect.

Beautiful, though a little slow. Otherwise a fine performance. Certainly one of the better ones around.

Good basic performance... But a little slow and ploddy... This is a traditional dance...but, in this performance, like the dancers would be wearing heavy steel toed boots worn by coal miners...

No, it suits the melodies better this way, and the symphonic sweep

Well it’s moderato, it shouldn’t be faster. In the end it’s a piece from an opera, not a study on traditional dances

@@IvarsBezdechi lol you were literally talking about it being too slow. Believe me, I know more about classical performances than you will ever do. This obviously isn’t the best orchestra, but the tempo isn’t the problem. That’s all I said.

@@zalba5710 No, I was "not literally talking about it being too slow." I'm talking about the FEEL. This is a dance and it should not be performed like the dancers are wearing heavy steel-toed logger dancing on just pour asphalt on a hot day. HAHAAHHAA---"I know more more about classical performances..." I'm a pianist and trumpet player and singer who has been in the profession for over many decades who has performed around the world. You might want to check with a mental health processional about your extreme narcissism...

Dear Eric, it seems to be that you don't know very much about Delius. Composers are all unique and should not be compared with each other. To start your return to the subject of Delius, first watch the film 'A Song of Summer' which gives an in-depth look at Delius composing with the aid of Eric Fenby. It's incredibly enlightening! And next time you listen to Delus, come to him with a blank and open mind rather than looking for 'other influences'! You'll soon find yourself transported ino 'another world' and only Delius is in it . . . . Kind regards, Richard
