Thousands more Ukraine troops to the meat grinder.
Former artillerist here. I'm very interested in the artillery aspect of this episode. Do the forward observers have direct communication with the battery via digital comms? I'm curious about the fire support coordination measures. The Ukrainians may be able to give us some lessons soon.
The Ukrainians are using landline based communications in a lot of places, even in trenches and firing positions, its the only unhackable form of communication they have at the moment
I'm also interested in this, I'm an ex-Mortarman. Since there are many drone videos of precision hits on buildings, trenches, and tanks, I'm assuming that the Ukrainians are using some wireless communications successfully to coordinate these attacks.
I'm also former Artillery, OPA - with modern drones the OPA has become obsolete.. The drones give a pin point grid that is better than all OPAs...
I too am a former artilleryman here, believe me we are in a whole different world than when we served. Due to drones, the battery often has eyes on the target via the drone. The forward observer has become largely obsolete on this battlefield.
@@brianeleighton 👍 I fully agree, it is a new era and for an enemy it should be scary...
🇺🇸🇬🇧🇵🇱🇺🇦 Best podcast regarding the war bar none. Thanks
Perun is best. By a lot. A military historian has called it the “best researched, most thoughtful, and best presented” material on the web regarding the war.
Thanks much appreciated!
Narration was spot on
The most trusted podcast bar none!!
Wow, that's really damning of your views of what is trustworthy or not
A very articulate bunch
Maybe the Orcs want to destroy the power plant economically but not cause a radiologic accident. It is a rather expensive piece of kit and very useful for Ukraine's economy. Hope it gets protection either way.
Give em hell... 😂😂😂
Yesterday’s counter attack in Bakhmut is small by normal standards. However, by the standards of this battle, it’s huge. Ukraine took an area of 6 square kilometres whereas Russia has struggled to take six square yards in the same time period.
This was not in Bakhmut city which today Wagner took the school.
Great coverage and analysis of the war in the Ukraine
After the first weeks/months, Ukraine has chosen the battlefield. After that, the professional part of the russian army was more or less gone, and there are no ways imaginable that Ukraine could suffer more casualties than russia. 1:3-7 UA:ru casualty ratio is sensible and has been for several months.
The Yanks reckon it's averaging 7:1 in favour of the Russians. Just quoting their leaked intel, no opinion of my own.
Lies. HOW can a huge advantage in artillery lead to heavier casualties? No confict has EVER demonstrated that. We KNOW from the leaks the true scale of the casualty ratio. It is what any neutral observor would suspect.
Yes, Wagner may just be mainly convicts but they are nearly wiped out (or at least spent). Vulehdar shows what the regular Russian army is capable of. The remainder of the good equipment and what is left of the professional Russian army has been attempting attacks where Ukraine stopped after Kharkiv offensive (but obviously hasn't accomplished much). Lots of professional troops were "consumed" when Russia invaded and finally retreated in the North. I will also point out what was left of the paratroopers were rushed to reinforce Kherson and again, heavy losses. Even the units that occupied Bucha kept being sent into attacks until they ceased to exist. Russia gained some territory, but really has a very small percentage of troops they began with. Conscripts and whatever could be restored to working condition are what is left.
Scandinavians are delusional I dated a norwegian once. Passionate people but can't admit when they are wrong.
@@john_in_phoenix Better option than Devils Island I suppose at least a shorter solution to the overcrowded prisons
Can Dom comment on the possibly of a mass special millitary attack to retake the nuclear power plant?
Ukraine will simply take the areas around it and leave the ZPP intact. UA will never risk a nuclear disaster on their ground.
My bet is that Ukraine has nuclear engineers standing by. Look at what happened at Chernobyl, plenty of bravery and sacrifice to stop the accident. Likely lots of small boats ready to deliver if a breakthrough occurs.
They’ve already tried and got pushed back

These nuclear plants should have radar and cctv installed, streamed to public sites so if they are shelled the whole world knows who did it
Hard part is convincing Boris and Ivan to do that when they’re the ones loading them with explosives
Well if anything happens we already know who did it.
Russia doesn't permit cameras. There are cameras in all Ukrainian controlled NPP. But then again, it's a war crime for an invading country to attack a NPP, and Russia is first and only country to ever do so. Russia had many of their own soldiers get radiation poisoning and likely died, when they messed with Chernobyl. They don't take nuclear power seriously enough. That's the reason Ukraine allowed Russia to gain control of ZNPP, as Ukraine sensible enough to know the danger Russia causing shelling and firing missiles around it when first attacked it. They surrendered it for safety. Ukraine's safety records with IAEA have been pretty flawless. Chernobyl meltdown was caused by Russia, and Ukrainians were victims of it, as not independent yet.
Russia's mined entire ZNPP, keep weapons, military vehicles and other military equipment/ munitions in it. IAEA had repeatedly reported concerns about Ukrainian workers not treated well enough and worried about accidents due to this. Whole thing's a mess. Russia has repeatedly attempted to hook it to Crimea or Russia system for power unsuccessfully, quite dangerous as different systems. We all know how not careful Russia is. Will be hard to dislodge Russia from there. Some Russian soldiers early on said they'll blow it rather than give it up, even if they die too. But can't allow them to be in there. A forever danger. The longer they've been there, longer to set up even post war problems. Just another reason world needs to help Ukraine win as soon as possible.
Why, everyone knows who is attacking the plant, its no secret, one side occupies the plant. The other side attacks it. What is hard to understand. Never underestimate the power of human stupidity ?
it wasnt the russians bombing it last time, was it
There's a lot of negative that could be said about the British Empire, but the last commentators hope for cricket to flower in Ukraine is kind of charming... Hopefully he's selling them on the short version!

The United Nations should hold elections in Donbas and divide the land according to the results to two factions Ukraine and Russia (After the people displaced by the war are returned)
The grain deal highlights why Ukraine will never in our life time be admitted to the EU
UK, my respects. Yes and yes this are rainy days so the West must give to Ukraine everything! Stop talking, deliver long range missiles, jets and so on!
Ukrainian grain - Trouble selling it to the EU because it undercuts other suppliers.
Why not sell/ship it to Africa & the ME?
My understanding was that the grain shipments from Ukraine were sent by road/rail to nearby EU countries with ports for trans-shipment to Africa and the Middle East but were intercepted and instead sold in the local markets at a huge profit, undercutting domestic farmers in those countries. This was not mentioned in today's podcast, so is the story true, or not? R (Australia)
Thanks

lessons from the Ukrainian military :- how to equip drones with chemical weapons?
20:57 Do not underestimate the conservative mind in making the absolute worst decision out of the options available to them. If the conservatives win in the US, Ukraine is ffd. If Labour wins in the UK, they already committed to supporting Ukraine.
I fully agree on both counts. Absolutely if Trump gets in he will gift Ukraine to Putin and likely pull US out of NATO.
Francis needs to understand war is not an economic activity. It is a political activity and for the most part a dead weight loss. This is why countries mobilise for war.
In this case Ukraine ruzz conflict is a proxy war for the West, requiring partial mobilisation to provide the materials Ukraine needs. There will be an immediate cost, the rewards will come later when Ukraine prevails.
I believe we should have followed G. Washington's advice and stayed out of foreign wars.
Time to drop 20,000 airborne NATO troops to secure Zaporizhzhia to secure the site to prevent an environmental catastrophe. Putner will not respond, he knows if he does he is finished in 3 days and he damn well knows it. NATO needs to grow some balls to quote a common saying.
obviously a ridiculous idea.
Put your boots on
haha spoken by a real lover of the televison
Yeah, Yeah, Ukraine is winning, winning, winning whatever!
We need a neutral peace keeping force supervising a demilitarized zone around the nuclear power plant. The most ideal nation to provide troops would be India.
Not sure Modi's balancing act would stretch that far
Or Mauritius.
the Swiss.
Amazing. When talking about weapons Ukraine should be given and use to continue the war, the only question is why is it being delivered so slowly? I can’t even remember the last time I heard a western “journalist” arguing for a stalemate and finding a mutually acceptable solution to the conflict..
Yet Russia has constantly offered very acceptable and sensible solutions to solve the conflict. But the Russian offers would halt US expansionism in Ukraine. So therefore there is no talk of a possible solution and peace. These “journalist” surely doesn’t even fathom how they completely follow this narrative and agenda without any hesitation. Just like when the UK and US invaded Iraq in 2003 simply to expand their influence there. Then the journalist also only asked how fast we could destroy a sovereign nation and create a country of total chaos and nothing but suffering. Did not matter Saddam and Osama were mortal enemies and Iraq had ZERO ability or interest in attacking the west. At least 250,000 innocent civilians died in Iraq since 2003. Makes todays war in Ukraine look like a frozen conflict.
I wonder if the Russian soldiers are evacuating everyone around Zaporizha and defecting on their own disguised in civilian clothes because they all know Bunker Grandpa is going to blow up the nuclear plant soon.
Future hear: it was a walk over by Ukraine
Hey mister Breton Gordon
This war was produced and directed in Washington
Oo
I would rather that war crimes (notably) be prosecuted formerly and clearly against ALL combatants and military units, of ALL countries, rather than calling some units terrorists when it suits our side of the war. International justice must either be applied to all, or it is not a justice system at all, and is just the age old rule of might makes right. Yes, Wagner has committed heinous crimes in its history, based on hard data/proof, but we need to stop living in a cultural media bubble where we ignore the crimes committed by US forces notably in recent wars (the international community remained passive and quiet in the face of much horror in Iraq and Afghanistan).
- a Canadian, who remembers Iraq and will never allow us to deny the massive crimes there and elsewhere. There are many mercenary forces from Western countries also ...
In a perfect world, yes. However the world is not perfect and currently is in reactive and not proactive mode. Don't pretend that this current war is in any way the same as Iraq or Afghanistan. I don't remember Ukraine gassing their own people or executing civilians...
Or just blame the Muscovites for everything. There would be no war crimes but for the Muscovite invasion. Understood?
Zelensky is Rumplestilskin

There is no evidence of a Ukrainian counter attack in Bakhmut. Positions are relatively unchanged except for small Russians gains to capture the southern Post Office and gains to the North-West of the city towards the main supply road from Khromove and Chasiv Yar.
mmmmmmmmmm.....
Carl’s account is two weeks old and only comments pro Russia. Apparently the fuel depot is up working again. Lol

@@jamesmain_email6969 LOL. IT IS working again. I'm simply trying to inject a bit of reality into relentless propaganda. I'm neither pro Russia or pro Ukraine. I just want to see an end to this conflict and the only way that is going to happen now is Russian advance to the Dnipro and Ukraine are forced to the table. Anyone who thinks Russia are going to be pushed out or, even more ridiculous, Putin forced from office are simply living in fantasy land.
