💯 ! I totally agree ! I've been saying this for years. I heard it's a Government agreement (exclusive contract). I don't frequent the beauty supplies as I used to. I haven't had a perm in years ! One thing that burns me up is going in to these Beauty Supplies & not even being able to communicate what you want because most of the employees don't speak fluent English. I think another point should also be that we need to STOP spending so much on non-essential hair care items and use our hard earned money on more crucial things. Shop black all the way around !

Like online black owned clothing, beauty supply, hair care products (you can find some good people on ig, I mean it’s all about how much you want it. I sat down took my time and looked for black owned in my area, when I found none I looked for online shops. One thing I refuse to do is give money to people who disrespect me.

True story...last year I went to Asian supply store to buy hair, needless to say it was way over priced but that's not the JUICY part! As I was in the store I noticed the old Asian lady restocking shelves. She was pulling hair out of these giant brown boxes. Well as I left, with ALL the money I came with, I noticed the trash outside. The boxes were the exact same boxes I saw the old Asian restocking the shelves with. Curiosity made me walk over to the boxes and do you believe that these boxes came from eBay?!!! YES! They were restocking there shelves with hair purchased from eBay and JACKING up the prices!
From that day I realize that all of them don't get there hair overseas. FACTS!!!
Start small, rent a small shop and start with crochet and braiding hair along with oils and hair creams. Sell accessories like rubber bands, shower caps, Combs etc. Than as you grow get into the chemical aspect of it. C'mon my people let's get motivated... WE can do This!
No actually they do but that is a better way for them to buy however as I worked in one they order directly from China or Korea but if one of their vendors is eBaying they go there because it will get to them faster no matter what you do opening a store of our own still puts money on their pockets 10 fold why? Because they make the hair and lots of the products. That is why there is a monopoly about it. The only way to defeat that is to literally design and weft and bake make the hair itself,otherwise you still deal with them period. Therefore they still have jurisdiction. That’s the only way by them not touching anything that we need. Design yourself all different products. Made by and sold by black then you get power for yours and yours only.
No one tell you to walk in that store and purchase anything. Dis is so dumb. Y are u complaining. Then go to a black store and purchase it then.

I wish there was more black owned in my community. It’s also coming to a point where they are opening up shop next to black stores and threats the vendors not to sell to them. This has happened back home in New York. These owners are threatening vendors and one store even followed a beauty supply store to a new location to shut them down. My stance changed when I got followed in a store and that was the first time that ever happened to me.

Most of the hair comes from Asians too. That is why they do not buy it. But Asians don't do fake hair. They spend a lot of money on make-up though and skincare products though. But they are smart enough to tell when there is a demand for something. So maybe when you don't require fake hair so much...
Even if black women stopped wearing hair extensions. There still be a demand for it. Other races wear hair extensions. Let’s not sit here in pretend. I used to live in both China and Korea and the amount of Asian women I saw buying wigs or hair extensions was unreal. So let’s not sit here and pretend they don’t wear brought hair because they do.
I couldn't agree with you more it is always angered me that African American women continue to shop at these stores and support them as they plop their stores down in the middle of our community to reap the benefits of financial gain and then abandon it as soon as they close and rush back out to the suburbs. I've never understood how those in the black community could go to all of those Asian owned beauty shops and Asian food shops and accept the way that they were treated and still continue to support them It's just craziness I don't go to any of their nail salons either they don't get a penny of my money. I really wish the rest of our community would ban together and as a collective put them all out of business but I know that that is just a fantasy at this point.

I seen one video where the man shop owner was actually fighting a black woman saying she stole a pair of $5 earrings. She did not still a thing. My thing is why do so many black women keep patronizing these people. I know what some would say they would say shopping with our own people the prices are too high. I'd rather pay a higher price and help my community than pay a cheap price and help somebody who doesn't give a care about the community.

Simple solution for black community to gain power with the hair industry. Push for new laws, that will prevent business to sell products that came from labour and resource exploitation. As an Asian myself most Asian business, their resources came from exploitation of other poor Asian countries. As a result, black community will encourage their community to build products, that are up to labour and resources standards. As Asian business will have a hard time following.

I Agree girl. I stopped last year after I was discriminated against in a store. They balantly skipped over me and served these white ladies and I spoke up and they ignored me.

The prices are higher due to wholesale prices not being the same for us. Also we don’t have access to the same suppliers as them ... it’s not about ripping people off it’s about being able to continue running their business and also making a profit .

I am not trying to be rude here but in all honestly what they are saying is that Asians tend to open up stores in black communities. They are rude to the people of those communities and take their money without trying to give back to the people giving them money, and what more they are making it harder to get into the same Industry.
