      Still too expensive for my tastes I would much rather game on a normal desktop since the battery although bigger is not enough to be useful for anyone trying to game on the go (not to mention how cumbersome it must be to take around with you everywhere).

    GEEZUS... YOUR REVIEWS ARE SOOO CALMING. I dunno why but... You look so chill man lol. Your reviews/comments are also "natural" in a way that you dont seem just like reading a script or like someone endorsed you.
    Keep it up!
    One comment tho. You gotta have them catchy intros back. Just to stand out more from other reviewers. But meh im fine either way.

    imagine if they take those light strips, use the body of a xps 15 with a 1080p infinity edge display, the amazing rgb trackpad, and is classified as maybe an alienware light laptop edition with a 1050ti. no? just me?

    • @RaggaDruida

      I'm pretty sure you could get away with a 1060... And it'd be the Razer Blade 14 killer... xD

      Diego De León I'm pretty sure he wants a cheaper laptop

    • @johnhanson5527
      @johnhanson5527 8 років тому +8

      Diego De León 1060 is just a bit too much tbh. also yes cheaper laptop is a good starting point for me. not too mention the 1060 is way too hot while the 1050 ti would be quieter and play most games great at full HD. and the xps 15 I mentioned would be great if they kept all the old ports but added the alienware proprietary port for the graphics adapter so it'd be mostly future proof. it's ok alienware I have until the end of January to save up for it.

    • @PrivacyEnt
      @PrivacyEnt 8 років тому +3

      Exactly what i was looking for. the XPS chassis looks the best of any laptop i think. Only the graphics amp port would be more than enough for such a laptop though. because external gpu with thunderbolt seems a bit odd right now i guess with only product being a razer.

      get the 13 in, best bang for bucks imo. You basically can't find a 1060 laptop for less than what dell offers with the 13 in. The cheapest out there is 15in sager/clevor, which is way behind in terms of build quality. Plus you can hook up the graphic amps, which is pretty much future proof.

    • @OneDerscoreOneder
      @OneDerscoreOneder 8 років тому +3

      Nerd on a Budget
      Imo it's better to go with a powerful desktop with good power/dollar and a lighter laptop, that way you get the best of both worlds. (Unless you really can't have a desktop because you're always on the go or at college or something)

    • @anerdwitdacamera204

      I'm not disagreeing with you on principal, I do just want to say though, that finding a product on the market that is a worse deal does not mean this is a good deal. I can say a MacBook Air or Razerblade 17" makes other machines look like a good deal (and you can argue that they have their own benefits) but that doesn't necessarily make them actually a good deal, especially if the average cost for those parts in a laptop is lower.

    Just a heads up, the 15 R3 i7-6700HQ / 1060 GTX model is prone to overheating. This was a prevalent issue in October/November/December of 2016. Alienware seemed to acknowledge the issue and claims to have fixed it for models produced after December 6th, 2016.
    I just got my 15 R3 on January 13th, 2017, and right out of the box I was experiencing 100 degree temps across at least three cores. The overheating issue seems to STILL be relevant. People say repasting the heat sink with liquid metal will net average temps up to 25-30 degrees cooler, but this is a very complicated process for less PC savvy consumers.
    I haven't done the repaste yet, but in order to cut down on the temps I have to heavily regulate my CPU. Not only am I undervolting, but I've also disabled the turbo feature that comes with the Intel chips, and reduced the overall performance by 20%. These changes keep the temperatures at a respectable 45-50 degrees Celsius under light load or idling, and 75-85 degrees while gaming.
    Dell customer service will tell you that 100 degree temperatures are "normal" but they aren't fooling NOBODY. Of course laptops will run hotter than desktops, especially a gaming spec laptop, but 100 degree temps should never be considered "normal."
    I've heard that the Intel chips are capable of running at 100 degree temps for several years, so it might not be that big of an issue but the industry standard seems to be 25 degrees lower near 85 degrees Celsius. Not to mention, with that much heat in such close proximity to other components, I'd worry that other things might fail prematurely because of the heat.
    Just a heads up for anyone looking to get the bargain i7-6700HQ/1060 GTX model.

      GeminiTIGER When was yours made?

    • @geminitiger957
      @geminitiger957 7 років тому

      It was built on 1/5/2017 and I received it on 1/13/2017. To this day it still overheats. Repasting is expensive for me since I'm unwilling to disassemble my laptop, but undervolting/underclocking has improved my temperatures by 15-20 degrees. I use XTU to undervolt to -150, and then I use Power Management to limit my chip performance to 99% (this disables the boost function of the I-7 6700HQ). Now it typically runs between 77-82 degrees Celcius, down from 100 degrees, and NO thermal throttling and no FPS loss.
      I'm considering paying for the repaste to see how much more that will cool it down.

    This is probably the 8th or 9th video of yours I've watched over the past couple of days. I subscribed last night for a couple reasons: you have a wide variety of reviews, from Dell or Lenovo, to Apple and Razer. I also find your videos to be "no none-sense", and simple to follow along with. Not sure if you'll get this comment or not, but wanted to give you some major props. Keep up the good work! You really are helping me figure out what laptop to get this year. :) (leaning towards the Razerblade Stealth currently, but got a few more videos to watch)

    Hi Dave! Great video. I was wondering what your top 3 15.6 inch 1060 or 1070 series laptops would be at this point? If you could only have one , which would it be and in which configuration?
    Also you said 6 hours of battery life? Does this laptop have a 120 refresh rate and g-synch? All of the other laptops with a 1060 or 1070 seem to have 2-3 hours of battery life, and non gaming batter life does matter to me as I plan on using it for general typing and media consumption as well as gaming.
    Thanks again Dave and keep up the good work!

      Gaming is the biggest thing. The cursor looks smoother as well. Dragging items makes text easier to read as well but obviously that isn't a huge a deal. For me where I'm used to 144hz and 120hz it's hard for me to go back to 60hz. It actually takes me a few minutes for my eyes to adjust when I go back. I don't regret getting the 120hz version.

      James Fergus you can get the highest model on eBay or dells refurbish site for about £1300. No two model is the same on eBay however; I got lucky and got a GTX 1070, i7 6820HK and 16GB ram. You just have to be a bit patient and don't buy the first one you see.

      Sammed Upadhye the 4k panel does indeed have g sync, and I'm getting about 3-4 hours of moderate use (having a few things open including horrible beasts like iTunes or Spotify) so light use would get you about 6 hours battery life.

    Hi guys!
    I have this laptop for 6 months (i7 7820HQ, gtx1070, full hd 15inch screen). What can I say? DON'T BUY IT!!!
    It's a real crap! ALWAYS hot (I made re-pasting with liquid metal). When it wakes after 'sleep' mode - often sound doesn't work. In IE (my main browser) audio driver doesn't work in 90% and sound becomes awful. You can't play in games without cooling pad because it (as I said before) is always hot. And in games it just dies due to thermal throttling. I'm gonna sell this crap. And I sincerely advice to NOT to buy it... it doesn't cost that money (I bought it from DELL's official shop) and weight doesn't bring any benefit ... very bad device. Battery wear after 6 month of careful usage is 21%... twenty one percent... my prev MSI had 17% after 2 years of usage... So only disappointments, nothing more

    Ordered the model with GTX 1070! Chose the simplest display...... IPS 60 MHz, avoiding the 120 MHz or 4K one. Hoping to get more battery life outta it.
    The main reason I avoided Acer Predator, ASUS ROG or MSI is because of the build quality vs portability vs thermal management. Alienware seems to strike a good balance compared to others.
    My only is regret not having more budget to get the i7-6820HK processor.

    • @achdubloedesau
      @achdubloedesau 6 років тому

      1070? Full HD 120 Hz. 4K makes no sense with the 1070, does not have enough power to drive it with reasonable fps (assuming you're gaming), on the other hand, the 1070 usually gives you more then 60 fps in current games.

    If I was in the market for a laptop, I would buy this one. I've always used desktop computers, and have built them myself for 8 years. This laptop has it all, the thermal management is wondrous, the style and apparent durability of the case ooze quality and precise design parameters. Alienware has truly evolved in recent years, they were laughable pits of money when they started out. It's definitely got my brain thinking of selling my desktop in the future and replacing it with this. Thanks for the great review Dave, you always do a superb job at covering all the pros and cons in a concise yet accurately detailed manner of the hardware you showcase on your channel!
