10 + years ago in Maine we had several mills running and thanks to overseas competition they are all shut down and the last one shut down I think it was this summer. We had in New Hampshire the last company town was Lincoln, New Hampshire and the EPA gave them until a certain date to have a new water treatment plant installed and up and running. Due to a real bad winter 105+ inches of snow they fell behind and needed a 6 month extension to finish the treatment plant. The EPA refused to give them an extension the Boston & Maine Railroad had a branch that ended in Lincoln 72 miles in length that was making money every other day a freight would run 80-100 cars to and from Lincoln to Concord, New Hampshire they ran right up until the permit from EPA expired allowing them to dump untreated effluent into the river then shut down. 700 people out of work in one shot 97% oh the town the rest were dpw and a few local small business operations. The state had to move a trailer office in to handle the unemployment claims. What's worse they finished the treatment plant but the EPA refused to issue a permit for the plant to reopen. Mill was sold with promises of reopening and hiring everyone back. The new owners sold the machinery and tore down the plant great and I mean excellent skiing in that area the former mill site still exist the railroad part owned by the state and leased segments of the rail line support 4 different tourist railroads. 85% of the mill site is now condominiums. A house sold for $25-30,000 in 1971 now sells for at its peak $500,000 pricing the locals right out of town. I used to snowmobile in Lincoln in 1972 the year they shut down Lincoln from 1972 is totally unrecognizable. The woods that supplied the pulpwood are virtually untouched since 1972 a small amount going into Maine but as their mills died it's a shame in Maine alone we have I believe over 3,000,000 acres of timberland all privately owned with little to no customers like they did when several mills were operating. I'm a retired tucker and railroader there was one paper mill we would switch every day m-f we would take our lunch on their siding couple a days a week, talking to the power house engineer one day and inquired where's your log yard? Don't have one he replied. ???? We make paper from worn jeans he said. The light bulb went off which is why I can't tell you where it is. It is the sole supplier to the US for paper for something we all use. Money. Have a good month and may the price for hardwood rise! Jim
I had a question about your loader... How come you don't use the limber on the end of the loader? I see that there is still a lot of paint on that limber still I didn't know if you guys use it or not...
I know you don't need the pull through where you have a processor but have you tried it? And if so how does the 437 compare to a 410 prentice for delimbing?
+06lbzduramax3500 that's not really a fair comparison for me because the 410 I use to run was a 1998 model and this 437 is quite a few years newer. I don't think I have even put a tree in the delimber on the 437 to even see how it would do.
cotontop3 thanks for the reply! I'm thinking of buying something for a pull through nothing new but maybe a decent older 410 or 24000 hood. Gonna see how the markets are we just lost 3 paper mills in the last year so the remaining mills are flooded so I'm just kind of waiting at the moment. Our log markets are doing decent at the moment tho hope that continues
That grapple saw might be a bit slow but at least it's not a cheap one made in Mexico L.O.L., I don't know much about how old that chain saw is but that one looks like it might be near as old as he is, with how well built it is.
You better get that grapple saw look at its a bit slow lol I just want to say I enjoy watching your videos I love learning how things work in different parts of the world and I'm very glad to see you guys take safety serious I remember a few years back I was walking through the woods and I put my hand on a tree to step over a stump beside it and a limb broke off and hit me right on the top of the head lucky I was only stunned for a few minutes but it opened my eyes to be more careful
Like the Kevin 1000 grapplesaw, a little slow maybe it needed sharpening..lol You could use it on any type of machine though..lmao ..Poor Kev..Take Care and Be Safe Tim..
In 1989 while building a bridge, a Hattiesburg crew was driving pilings for me. A flange from 65 - 75' up broke away from the lead and hit their foreman in the head, taking 55 stitches. He survived because of his hardhat though only back to about 75% ability. A hardhat is probably the cheapest/best safety gear you can buy/wear. Use common sense and stay safe! Love the videos, keep 'em coming! ....13
Up here in new England the hw pulp markets are almost non existent. a yr ago we were getting 38$ and no quotas. I hope u guys aren't headed down same rd. We had some strong markets for it now there non existent.
Believe you need to give that grapple saw some Geritol, maybe that'll speed it up! You're probably too young to know what that is though ! 😁 Thanks for sharing and take care. 👍
doing a great job love your stories and workmanship. thanks for sharing your experience and videos. when and if you are able to please Mr cottontop sir I would like information on being able to get a shirt or a couple shirts from you to show my support for you and yours and your work and UA-cam videos. thank you your fan Kenny Wilson, PS you can find me on Facebook as well as on here. If you would please personal message me and I can give you more info. thanks again 😉😉😉
the guy that trained. me in the woods got killed by a widow marker and he was wearing a hard hat . The only bad about his it was plastic and it fell about 20 ft .He was a good guy
I think your new grapple saw is one of those non returnable things. Besides I think his mother might have something to say about you wanting to return him. I tried that with my brother, but no they brought him home anyway!
You need new wiper blades urgent for that windscreen Tim, one at least is completely knackered!! You talk about low prices for your produce, we are suffering really badly with very low prices for wheat (for either milling grade or animal feed grade), barley is even worse such that it is the same or less as 10 years ago per ton. You don't need telling what has happened to diesel, machinery, fertilizers and sprays in the meantime.
hey Tim I owe you an apology. been watching your channel for few years now and just subscribed a few months ago. I was under the impression that it cost money to subscribe until my eleven year old son told me different. I got on right before you hit 10k. I have never heard anyone on UA-cam explain that all you have to do to subscribe is hit the button. like myself I'm sure there are some none techno dummy's out there that don't know how easy it is. so once again I do apologize and maybe so hillbillies like myself will read this and hit the old subscribe button. thanks for the enjoying videos.
cotontop3 Ya its a great thing, means youtube believes in your content. Thats sadly how channels really make it or not. Almost impossible to get 100k subs with out youtubes blessing. Views and time spent viewing are the two most important numbers. Subs dont mean anything if they dont watch your videos. You keep It Up man, I say you have the potential to hit 100k subs within a couple years. Ive noticed a lot of youtubers geting drones these days, your channel could really benefit from one.
+f0rumrr I have a phantom drone and have a ton of videos from it here on my channel. Even several drone videos of me digging the first pond. Lots of drone stuff from the logging job also.
I really appreciate your sincere appreciation for safety. Motorcycle helmets and hard hats are smart!
Now THAT'S a grapple saw...it's about time!!!:) You bought one of those fancy dirt saws huh.
Hard hat saved me more than once. Great video Tim.
got my shirt, thanks again. super cool design
I agree with you 100% on the hard hat Tim. it has saved my noggin I don't know how many times. worth every penny.
good looking new grapple saw ! lol... I bet your others don't talk back like that one does !
you got me on that one I thought you where going to get a new rotobec! lol
is pulp wood used for other things????
That's one of those new fangled grapple saws that blesses and caresses the wood before it cuts it. Lol
my hard hat definitely saved my ass a few times for sure and I dig that new grapple saw man we need one on our job!!

+HillJack there's no need to use it with the Waratah processor sitting there.
ya need a little bigger on that new grapple saw there bud. hahaha made me laugh. nice video as usual
I know you don't need the pull through where you have a processor but have you tried it? And if so how does the 437 compare to a 410 prentice for delimbing?

+06lbzduramax3500 what happens with the election will determine a lot of things.
Cherrybark Red Oak. Where is it headed? We used to haul to Linden back in the Late Nineties from Southwest GA.
I am watching the episode my Brand new grapple saw and you mentioned that 65% of your views are from non subscribers. That's me I Love this stuff
Do you guys plant back after you cut tracks out or do they just grow back naturally
+Rod Small its replanted
cotontop3 any chance of doing a video of that?
You just had to get that fluids good and warm in that old/new grapple saw.
That grapple saw might be a bit slow but at least it's not a cheap one made in Mexico L.O.L., I don't know much about how old that chain saw is but that one looks like it might be near as old as he is, with how well built it is.
New on your channel good stuff like watching on my spare time I'm a logger myself n south Ms as a cutter hand keep it coming man stay safe
Thank you Jason
You better get that grapple saw look at its a bit slow lol I just want to say I enjoy watching your videos I love learning how things work in different parts of the world and I'm very glad to see you guys take safety serious I remember a few years back I was walking through the woods and I put my hand on a tree to step over a stump beside it and a limb broke off and hit me right on the top of the head lucky I was only stunned for a few minutes but it opened my eyes to be more careful
That saw seemed to work pretty good for its age👷
Great videos!!
+Hunter Carroll thank you!
is pulp wood used to make paper?????
+william hale it's used for several different end products
que tal amigo. es tu compañia o trabajas en una privada?. exitos
are the controls set up the same on the track loader as the trailer mount
+west coast logging alex esgate no, they are exactly backwards. Main boom is on left joystick so on and the swing is in the floor also.
oh ya I forgot about the swing being on the floor that's like the prentice loaders been around a couple of them stay safe get logs
yo cotton top how many tons a day do y'all complete?
Like the Kevin 1000 grapplesaw, a little slow maybe it needed sharpening..lol
You could use it on any type of machine though..lmao ..Poor Kev..Take Care and
Be Safe Tim..
+Cynthia Herr LOL
I bet Kevin got a laugh out of that. lol
well let me now. when there for sale. I get. one or maybe a couple. any ways hello from upstate sc
HAY COTTON TOP3 I THINK YOU NEED TO PUT SUM NEW WIPER BLADES ON THAT LOADER
Ps we have an old prentice 384 with a CTR limber and it works out great for our logging company...
Good Stuff !!!!
The ole Kev O'Matic 4000 is a little slow but it has moves and versatility the Rotobec can only admire.
I don't care who y'are, that's funny right there!
Brenton Medders
Maybe he needs to bump it up to the 6000 model ! 😊
We're can I get a sticker for my ms 400 m cott top
You got the same model grapple saw I do.
it is more difficult having the boom on your left as is on the 437 than having it on your right as in the 2154? Lol, because it bugged me .
+dexterscott33 the main thing that bothers me, is the boom is sitting too far forward and it's a huge blind spot.
Yeah, you can barely see anything on that side of the machine.
In 1989 while building a bridge, a Hattiesburg crew was driving pilings for me. A flange from 65 - 75' up broke away from the lead and hit their foreman in the head, taking 55 stitches. ....13
They don't make them like they used too! You made me laugh, great video as usual keep it up
+Paul F thank you paul
Funny how the market is cottontop... hardwood pulp is higher than pine logs in most places...
That is the economy version of a grapple saw, you have a grapple and a saw but they're not together
Up here in new England the hw pulp markets are almost non existent. a yr ago we were getting 38$ and no quotas. I hope u guys aren't headed down same rd. We had some strong markets for it now there non existent.
let me see your face... i dont belive thats you operating the loader lmao XD
+Raylon LOL, go ride in the combine, and I'll be waiting on the proof 😊
lol oky! you will get the proof you need Lol
Believe you need to give that grapple saw some Geritol, maybe that'll speed it up! You're probably too young to know what that is though ! 😁
Thanks for sharing and take care. 👍
Sorry about having to make another comment... But doesn't it eat up a good but of fuel?
+HillJack it doesn't.
well that's good!
doing a great job love your stories and workmanship. thanks for sharing your experience and videos. when and if you are able to please Mr cottontop sir I would like information on being able to get a shirt or a couple shirts from you to show my support for you and yours and your work and UA-cam videos. thank you your fan Kenny Wilson, PS you can find me on Facebook as well as on here. the guy that trained. me in the woods got killed by a widow marker and he was wearing a hard hat . The only bad about his it was plastic and it fell about 20 ft .He was a good guy
you might need to regrease that grapple saw.
I think your new grapple saw is one of those non returnable things. Besides I think his mother might have something to say about you wanting to return him. I tried that with my brother, but no they brought him home anyway!

Getting a lot of views from non subs means, youtube is promoting your videos and recommending them to people.
+f0rumrr you're correct and lots watchers of my videos don't have UA-cam accounts.
